Seraphina's eyes glimmered as she studied the group, a faint, playful smile curling her lips. "It seems… I have much to learn about your little circle, Alexander. Humans, demons, and those in between. Quite the collection."
Maria laughed softly. "Little circle? That's one way to put it." She glanced at the others, who were settling into their usual spots, some still observing the new addition with curiosity.
Seraphina leaned forward, her fingers brushing a strand of her dark hair behind her ear. "And yet… I feel no fear. Only… fascination. I wonder what it will take to earn my place fully, beyond being simply bound to you."
Alex's gaze softened slightly, though his smirk remained. "You'll learn. Not through words, but through presence. Actions speak louder than titles, Seraphina."
Nyx coiled around the room's central column, her glowing eyes flicking between Seraphina and Alex as if acknowledging the shift in balance. Verrath, meanwhile, hovered protectively near Seraphina, a swirling mass of bloodmist that responded to her aura like a loyal shadow.
Colleen, still holding the plate with the cake, glanced nervously between Alex and Seraphina. "So… does this mean she's part of the family now? I mean, fully?"
Alex nodded once, calmly. "Yes. She is part of the family. That doesn't mean she's one of you in the usual sense—she has her own strengths, her own ways—but she belongs under my protection… and my command."
Seraphina's gaze softened briefly at Alex's words, then shifted back to a teasing glint. "Under your command, yes… but I am no one's shadow. Even among demons, my venomous currents are mine alone."
Zephyra leaned back, crossing her arms, a faint smile tugging at her lips. "Sounds like she's going to keep things interesting."
Alex chuckled lightly, stretching his arms. "Good. I don't need things to be boring. Life under my roof should be… memorable."
Seraphina tilted her head, eyes flicking over the group again, and whispered almost to herself, though loud enough for Alex to hear: "Memorable… yes. Alexander, I intend to make my presence unforgettable."
Alex smirked faintly, glancing at her. "I wouldn't have it any other way."
The room settled into a rare calm—humans chatting softly, demons observing with measured curiosity, and Seraphina quietly marking her place among them. Outside, the storm had long since passed, leaving the world washed clean, but inside, a different kind of storm had just begun.
Though the next day, Alex was called by Fury.
Walking through the estate corridors, Alex followed Phil as they approached Fury's office. "Come, sit," Fury said, and Alex nodded.
"What's the update now?" Alex asked, yawning. He had spent most of the previous night satisfying his woman, leaving him without a wink of sleep. Then, the very next day, Fury had called him in, saying it was an emergency.
Although he was now powerful enough to go months without rest, Alex still had the habit of sleeping—and right now, it was catching up with him, making him unusually groggy.
Fury exhaled slowly, folding his hands behind his back. "For the last few days, there have been… incidents. Whole regions reduced to nothing but scorched earth and voided space. Whatever weapon or force was used didn't just destroy—it erased everything. No bodies, no residual, no lingering energy signatures. Just… absence."
Alex paused mid-step, the air around him subtly shifting.
Fury continued, his tone grim. "We sent in analysts, but they didn't find anything."
"So, we considered it might be a mutant work, So, we need your help," he said to Alex as he showed the images of bowl-shaped craters appearing in multiple locations. Alex blinked.
"Hahaha…" he let out an awkward laugh. "Well, it was… me," Alex said, shrugging slightly.
"Explain," Fury demanded.
"Well," Alex began, "there were some shady guys who tried to hold a doctor hostage, claiming they wanted me to join them. I said I'm not interested. Then they tried to threaten my girls, so I… handled them. Killed each one of them, and destroyed all their factories or whatever bases they had."
Fury's eyes narrowed. "What kind of organization was this? This isn't some random gang, is it?"
"They kidnapped civilians," Alex said calmly. "Experimenting on them at their base. I knew my limits—I took them out. Some of their experiments were… mutants. I handled them too."
Fury let out a slow breath, digesting the information. "Hmm. So they probably needed you to be involved in those experiments," he said, knowing Alex's reputation as the only doctor with a 100% success rate at curing his patients. Though, in reality he kniew, Alex most likely uses his power to heal his patients.
"All of them… dead?" Fury asked.
Alex shrugged again. "I dealt with it. Simple as that. They messed with the wrong people."
"I won't say anything about it this time," Fury said, "but next time—include us before you do something like this. It's not good for us, suddenly waking up and seeing cratered sites out there. It causes a lot of problems."
Alex nodded.
Fury leaned back in his chair, rubbing his temples. "We can handle threats, Alex, but unilateral action… it complicates things. Even with your power, coordination matters."
Alex stretched lazily, a faint smirk tugging at his lips. "I know, Fury. But sometimes… coordination slows things down too much. Some threats can't wait."
Fury gave him a pointed look. "That may be true. But we need a line, Alex. You crossing it alone could put innocent lives at risk—or even the team."
Alex tilted his head, considering, then finally shrugged. "I get it. I'll try to loop you in next time… maybe." His smirk widened mischievously.
Fury groaned, leaning forward, pressing his hands to his face. "You really are impossible sometimes."
Alex chuckled softly, already thinking ahead to the next task, while Fury simply shook his head, knowing that dealing with him would never be straightforward.
"Alright," Fury said after a moment. "Enough talking. You can go now, there was nothing else, just those craters which were your own doing."
Alex nodded as he stood up and left.
