Chapter 721 - Chapter 719: Arrival and the Unexpected

In the blink of an eye, more than two hours had passed.

It was now approaching noon.

Seimei had finally arrived at the southwestern border of the Land of Lightning.

Hovering in midair, he opened his status panel and took a quick glance.

Despite having flown nearly 3,000 kilometers, his chakra reserves remained abundant.

However, using Wind Release: Wings of Wind and Chakra Cloak did not just consume chakra—it also drained his mental energy.

Even with his immense spiritual strength, prolonged flight had left him feeling slightly fatigued.

Although he was confident that no one in the Hidden Cloud Village could pose a threat to him, there was an old saying: Even a lion uses its full strength when hunting a rabbit.

Seimei had no intention of making a careless mistake, so he decided to rest for a while before entering the Land of Lightning.

If, during his break, the target of his mission was killed, then he could only offer his apologies.

Compared to the lives of others, his own safety was his priority.

Besides, if the target had managed to escape from the Hidden Cloud Village, send a distress signal, and survive up until now, they clearly had some skills.

There was no need to rush.

With that thought, Seimei stopped overthinking it. He hovered for a moment, then used his Byakugan to scan for an isolated location before descending.

He landed in a barren mountainous area, devoid of vegetation, with only a few strange rock formations exposed to the elements.

Finding a relatively clean boulder, Seimei sat cross-legged on top of it.

Then, he retrieved a cloth pouch from his ninja tool bag.

Opening it revealed dozens of small, black, soybean-sized pills.

These were none other than the famous Military Ration Pills of the ninja world.

He picked out three, popped them into his mouth, and began to chew with a crisp crunch.

These pills not only satisfied hunger but also replenished essential nutrients for the body.

During his rigorous training sessions, Seimei consumed over a hundred of these per day.

The only problem was…

No matter how many times he ate them, the taste remained indescribably awful.

So why did he still consume so many?

Did he have some sort of masochistic tendency?

Of course not!

The reason was simple: his chakra regeneration required vast amounts of energy.

As everyone knew, energy could neither be created nor destroyed—only converted from one form to another.

While his current mastery of Chakra Refinement and his Physique and Spirit attributes allowed him to recover over a million chakra points daily, this chakra wasn't generated out of thin air.

First and foremost, he needed to provide the necessary fuel—enough food to refine that much chakra.

Without sufficient intake, he wouldn't be able to recover at such a high rate. Forcing it would only damage his body.

Fortunately, the ninja world had Military Ration Pills, which functioned like compressed energy bars.

Without them, he'd spend an enormous amount of time just eating every day.

Additionally, he could digest such large amounts of Military Ration Pills only because his Physique attribute was high enough, and his body was strong enough to handle it.

Otherwise, even if he had the pills, he wouldn't be able to process them efficiently.

This was precisely why Seimei always emphasized that Physique and Spirit were the foundation of growth and why he relentlessly improved them.

Various thoughts flickered through his mind, and before he knew it, half an hour had passed.

Looking up, he noticed the sun had started to tilt westward. Not wanting to waste any more time, he erased his traces, secured his gear, and once again activated Wind Release: Wings of Wind and Chakra Cloak, soaring into the sky toward the Land of Lightning.

Since he was already close to the border, it only took him a few minutes to reach it.

However, likely due to the recent conclusion of the war, the border was still heavily guarded.

Numerous troops were stationed along the perimeter, and countless watchtowers stood tall within the forest.

If he attempted to fly across, he would almost certainly be detected.

His mission was to extract someone, not to cause trouble.

To avoid unnecessary complications, he decided to land early and find a weak point in the enemy's defenses to slip through.

For most people, this would be a difficult and dangerous task.

But Seimei was different—his Byakugan allowed him to scout ahead and bypass patrols entirely.

This significantly reduced the risk.

And even if an unexpected situation arose and he failed to avoid detection, he could always rely on Heavenly Transference to force his way through.

In the absolute worst-case scenario, if a battle with the Cloud ninja became inevitable, his overwhelming strength was his trump card.

Thus, without hesitation, Seimei found a secluded area and descended.

Without wasting any time, he activated his Byakugan and silently infiltrated the Land of Lightning.

As expected, there were no unexpected complications.

Thanks to his Byakugan's vision, he easily evaded the Hidden Cloud patrols.

Some sensor-type ninja did sense something off and tried to track him down, but by the time they arrived at the location, he was already gone.

As for tracking him through footprints or residual chakra traces…

Apologies, but the moment Seimei sensed a problem, he used Heavenly Transference to teleport a significant distance away.

This made it exponentially harder for the enemy to pursue him.

By the time they gathered enough clues to approximate his location, he had already slipped through their defensive line.

Afterward, Seimei wasted no time. He reactivated Wind Release: Wings of Wind and Chakra Cloak, took to the skies once more, and flew toward his destination.

The mountainous and cloud-covered terrain of the Land of Lightning provided excellent cover.

Even though he had to take a slightly longer route, he still arrived near his target location in about three hours, roughly in the late afternoon.

Before him stood a towering peak that pierced the clouds.

According to the last report from the Konoha spy, he was hiding somewhere within this mountain.

All that remained was to rendezvous with the spy and safely escort him out of the Land of Lightning and back to the Land of Fire.

However…

Something seemed off.

Hidden within the clouds, Seimei scanned the dense forest below, where numerous Hidden Cloud ninja—some moving in small teams, others lurking in secrecy—were conducting a search.

His brows furrowed slightly.

Clearly, the spy's hideout had been exposed.

But had the Hidden Cloud tracked him down through clues, or had someone from Konoha leaked the intelligence?

Regardless, things had just become a lot more complicated.

At this point, Seimei wasn't even sure if the spy was still alive, nor could he rule out the possibility that this search operation was a trap.

"I can't just sit back and watch—I need to take action."

After careful consideration, Seimei decided to seize the initiative.

With that in mind, he found an isolated corner, landed silently, and disappeared into the forest.

A few minutes later…

A Hidden Cloud ANBU operative arrived in the area as part of the search.

Seimei concealed his presence as much as possible. The moment the ANBU stepped closer, he suddenly hurled a kunai.

Swish!

A faint whistling sound cut through the air.

The Hidden Cloud ANBU reacted swiftly, immediately turning toward the kunai's trajectory and dodging to the side.

Visibly, Seimei's attack had missed.

Yet instead of disappointment, a faint smile appeared on his face.

The reason?

Simple—the kunai had been marked with his Flying Thunder God seal in advance.

Although he hadn't yet reached the pinnacle of S-rank mastery at Flying Thunder God Level 10 (0/0), he had already advanced to Level 8 and made significant progress.

At this level, he could inscribe the Flying Thunder God seal onto small objects like kunai with ease.

And that allowed for extremely covert attacks.

Just as the kunai brushed past the Cloud ANBU, Seimei activated Flying Thunder God, vanishing from his original position.

In the next instant, he reappeared—right beside the Hidden Cloud ANBU.
