Chapter 23 - Chapter: The Variable of Time, and the Queen of the Future

This was now the age of dragons, but for how long will it stay that way? I know soon Acnologia, the dragon that forced all dragons into hiding or death, will come knocking on my door, looking to eat me.

But that hasn't happened yet

But why has this appeared?

I pondered as I raised my mug, just above my mouth, letting the Alcohol enter my mouth.

But then it appeared.

[Ding]

[You have caused a variable. "The Birth of Dragon Slayers" has commenced. before "Fate" has intervened.]

[You have caused the variable.]

[You have gained 1000 Faith.]

["You have gained Divinity (D)"]

[You have officially crossed. all bounds.]

[Time now imposes on you. upon its branches.]

[Causility, no longer affects you.]

["Gaia has taken notice of you."]

["Alya has Taken Notice of you"]

["The dragon of ??? has taken notice of you"]

Why are these beings taking notice of me? I'm not even inside of thier universe or world.

But who's the dragon of ???. Maybe Tiamat?

my thougts were in a chaotic mess as my status appeared.

nothing changed, other than my race, i didnt evovle tho?.

I stared at my status window, my eyes locked onto a specific line,

Race: [Divine Dragon of Warmth]

Why did my race change from Kid Calamity Dragon to... this?

"Master, we need to move now."

Ektosth's voice was urgent, his hand was already on my arm, pulling me toward the darker side of the streets, way from the tavern.

I let him guide me while my mind was occupied by the notifations i was receiving.

[Divine Dragon of Warmth - Race Description]

[A unique evolution path triggered by accumulating Faith through acts of creation rather than destruction. Unlike traditional dragon evolutions that emphasize power and calamity, this path emphasizes warmth, protection, and the forge's flame, the flame that creates rather than destroys.]

[Racial Bonuses:

[All Fire-based skills now have dual properties: Destruction OR Creation +50% effectiveness when crafting/forging. Passive Aura: "Dragon's Hearth" - Allies within 30m gain gradual HP regeneration. Divine-type attacks deal 30% more damage to you. Chaos-type attacks deal 30% less damage to you.]

[DING!]

[Title Updated: "The Variable of Time" → "The Forge-Born Variable"]

[New Title Effect: Your actions now have 50% greater impact on timeline alterations]

[Warning: This makes you more noticeable to temporal entities]

Great, as if i wasnt already noticed, by temporal entities, of course, now it tells me.

He led me here, this place, the forge. for some reason. Ektosh left me here.

***

The forge was dark, almost too dark, when we arrived. The lights flickered through the shutters, and the sound of metal hitting metal rang through my ears. Was someone forging right now?

Clang! Clang! Clang!

I pushed the door open.

there borin stood at the anvil, working on steel that glowed yellow-white. He didn't look at me, he didn't stop, he continued, working away.

As he finished, it was time to let him know of my departure. But. I thought of something that was propitious, and decided to act upon it.

"Hey. Borin. would u like to be my servant?"

"Serve yer? Why would I do that?"

"I could grant you time, time to do anything you like, serve me, and I'll give you time, resources that you have never dreamed of before. I'll even teach u runes..."

"What kind of nonsense, are yer speaking of...."

"Runes: the solidification of mana, the ability to etch it into something, and make it run without the user's mana, etching it onto a blade, a glass, a piece of steel, anything. to achive the phenomenon, mana itself, couldnt achive,"

"This world? What are you saying, there are others?"

as i didnt have the full concept of runes, engraved inside of me, I used it.

[Ding!]

[You have used faith to achieve something that should be impossible in the world of Fairy Tail.]

[Ding!]

[500 faith points will be deducted.]

[Skill Activated: Flame Manipulation]

White fire flooded out, etching itself onto the air itself, floating above us. There, I started to make a rune, the rune of fire, Inguz.

The white fire that was etched upon the air didn't increase the size of the fire. It wasn't growing. It started to coil around my fingers as I began to etch the ancient script.

the air it's self, was a witness to this. as i traced the first line, it hung above us, a glowing red scare of pure white, the heat it carried was imenese, as the second line, was traced, then a third, each stroke was more complex then the last, this wasnt a simple, symbol, for all to use, this was a language of a world, not know to this, a rune older than humanity, its self, one would think it was a prayer, written in a grammar unkown to man.

"i dont think you would want me to complete the last line."

"Wait, what is the language of words, if I join yer, will you teach it.... It's fascinating."

"yes i would, would u like to join?"

"hmmm...."

Borin complicated the decision. he didnt fear Kamish in the slightest. but he decided his decision.

"Yes i will join."

[Ding]

["The forge of Borin. will now be recognized as your ally."]

["Borin has been made into a guardian of the territory."]

[Transporting the forge of Borin, inside the territory.]

The forge and all of its residents started to appear translucent, disappearing, as if they never existed inside of this world.

"W-whats hap-"

Before Borin could complete his sentence, Borin was already transported to his territory. There, they lay in front of the stone wall.

Now it was time to meet that observer.....

As we made it to the edge of the town, I felt it.

My scales felt it. And my eyes couldn't take them off of her. Someone I knew all too well.

Irene Belersion stood there, like someone hunting food, like a predator tracking its prey. She stood there with a blade in hand.

She was young, in her mid twenties, with scarlet hair that went past her shoulders, her eyes that looked like dark wine, she wore practical leather armor, and near her shoulders, there lay a scabbard of a sword hanging between her hips.

But the magic around her, Confirmed, what i expected, that familiar feeling, that nauseating feeling of death, the one accompanied by, my kind, Dragons, and if she had it, one would know, there is only one possibility, Dragon Slayer magic.

"ah soo am I now one of the ones you hunt?"

I said calmy looking at the direction of where this would lead. But I couldn't help but laugh.

a human, I knew, and I liked, came to kill me, a dragon siding with them,

Should I just betray them, if they are willing to cast me out, should I also cast them to the side?

My thoughts spiraled as she started to move.

Crack!!

The ice exploded outward. As the temperature dropped.

It began at her feet. a circle of frost fracturing the damp earth, and it began to spread.

It started at her feet, then began to accompany anything, the trees, the grass, the mud, even the water that lay to the far left. The house behind us lay frozen.

"Are you okay involving humans in this?"

I asked calmly, observing, this human wasn't like others, one that rush it bravely, and those who die to accomplish something, she was someone who calculated what she did.

So I had to be wary of what she was doing; she might not even remember me, a being that was only with her for a week or two.

I scanned each motion of her, her eyes, that were scanning the battlefield that she had walked onto, she scanned it, and as she did that i looked her over, she truly aged, that little girl that i meet wasn't like this.

this calmness, like she had done it before.

Slash!

She swung her sword.

The blade cut through the air like a razor. Wind wrapped around it, sharpening the strike and multiplying its force.

She meant it.

I moved, barely, dodging by a hair's width, but it cut me, my hair crumbled under the weight of the blade, as i tucked underneath it.

The edge grazed my cheek, but what lay there wasn't blood. It was white fire, attaching itself to my skin, acting like an invisible shield.

But it hurt.

[ding]

[You have used Faith. 65 Faith will be deducted.]

"You're not denying it." Her voice was empty, as cold as ice, like she had done this hundreds of times before.

"What would I be denying?"

"That you're a dragon."

I channeled my mana, activating it. My Core, as it wasn't running normally. It only produced an endless amount of mana, but it started to activate, steam came out of me like a enguie starting, it's been a while. since i restorted to starting it.

"ah its been a while, so please forgive me, your majesty, for what I'm about to do.."

Fire flooded out like a tidal wave. It attached itself to the ground.

Skrtt!

searing apart the ice that accompanied the ground, like cooking meat, it started searing it. The ground, accompanied by black char, was starting to appear on the ground.

The flames danced across the frozen ground, melting the ice, and steam erupted out into the air, creating a fog that surrounded us.

It was like a curtain for both of us to entrap ourselves in our own worlds. The act of war was murder, but the act of fighting was the telling of a story.

Her feet glided upon the searing ice, as she tapped her feet on the ground, like she was dancing, she sprang, as she moved without hesitation.

Slash!

Her blade came from the left, this time, aiming for my ribs. I twisted my core, bringing Borin's katana up to meet it.

Clang!

The force rattled my bones. She was using enchantments to enhance her strikes. Even the air itself wanted to help her, each hit carried the razor sharpness of the wind, and more weight than it should have.

"You, you are fast for a dragon," as she said, this, she started to circle around the fog, using it as a smoke screen to avoid me.

"Flattery won't save you, you know?"

Sparks flew, illuminating her face for a moment. She was focused as she was calculating her best way to find an opening.

'You know, I always wanted to do this...'

[Ding]

[You have used faith. deducted 200 faith points]

[Replicating.... Reality ???]

[A needed chant needs to be made]

As the windows of text appeared in front of my eyes, I began the chant it gave me.

Steel is my body,

Flame is my blood.

I have scorched over a thousand fields,

Unknown to mercy,

Nor known to ash.

Have withstood agony to ignite many worlds,

Yet these hands will never cool.

So, as I pray—

Incarnation awaits.

The air around us changed, the world itself changed. In this moment, the fog, the ground, and the sky accompanying us became a blaze, a fire accompanying this small world. this plane of existence.

"Ahahaha, so i really did it!"

I could help but smile, I even laughed, it was a great achivment i wouldnt normally be able to do, without the faith, acting as the catalyst, replicating a past. and using it as a base. i knew this wasn't my achievement alone. It was the same as Faith's demonstration.

Why wasn't it burning her, though?

[would u like to consume, faith points to achieve that?]

[Faith 1050 --> 185]

[Faith points needed: 400]

[error] [error] [error] [error] [error] [error] [error]

[You do not have the required faith points to replicate it.]

The flames surrounded us in a world of fire that stretched as far as the eye could see.

The fog was gone, replaced by pillars of white flame that burned without consuming.

Irene stopped moving, or it was that she couldn't move. the air, the ground, was there wasnt even a ground, it was as if nothing existed other than this fire, like being in water, it was hard to control. Each step sent her backwards.

Irene stopped trying to move, her eyes scanned the battlefield, as she began questioning.

"What....what is this?" Her voice carried the type of edge that she carried.

She was uncertain what type of magic this was. Never had she seen this type of magic before.

This is my world. But I would feel bad trampling on a sprout yet to grow, soo i will provide u with a handicap.

[MP 16,000/20,000

MP 13,000/20,000.

Skrr!!

The landscape changed in an instant, molten ground accompanied by white fire.

It was as if hell itself accompanied this land.

"It's funny, really. Humans and dragons really aren't that much different, ignorant in their own ways. I may have done you the courtesy of responding. But let's not get it twisted. You are the Challenger here."
