Chapter 395 - Chapter 396: Unexpected Surprise

On the second air route, Qing Ming's shadow clone hovered silently above four Mist Village warships, blending seamlessly into the night like a phantom. Though the warships carried no lights, Qing Ming's powerful Sharingan allowed him to discern the figures moving about the deck and along the ship's edges. However, his view was limited to these external figures; the interior of the ships remained concealed.

Even the figures on deck were distant, and Qing Ming couldn't gauge their strength with any certainty, since he was flying high to avoid detection. If only he had a Byakugan, he could easily identify the number and strength of the Mist ninjas below.

The thought suddenly crossed his mind: Perhaps I should find a way to acquire a Byakugan. While the Sharingan surpasses the Byakugan in many ways, it falls short in terms of reconnaissance. If he could obtain a Byakugan and master its use, it would cover his current limitations in this area. Conveniently enough, a Byakugan was rumored to be floating around somewhere…

Ao might be a suitable target, he mused.

Letting these thoughts drift away, he adjusted his wings, following the gradually receding Mist Village warships below.

Time passed slowly.

About twenty minutes later, Qing Ming's true self arrived on the scene. He found his shadow clone and immediately asked, "What's the situation?"

"See for yourself," the clone replied before dispersing in a puff of smoke.

The clone's memories flowed into Qing Ming's mind, and he closed his eyes briefly to review them. After a moment, he opened his eyes and muttered, "Acquire a Byakugan from Ao, huh… If the opportunity arises, it's worth a try."

Then he closed his eyes again and quickly absorbed the knowledge he had gained about the Mist Village forces below. Yet, the information was still rather limited; the clone hadn't dared to get too close.

Now it was time for him to gather information himself.

Qing Ming activated the "Connection Technique," reaching out to the clone stationed near the first route and releasing it from its shadow clone technique. With its dissolution, another surge of chakra and memories flowed back to him.

Qing Ming closed his eyes to integrate the memories, then opened them with a glint of satisfaction. The clone hadn't returned empty-handed—his Wind Release: Wings of Wind technique had leveled up!

Now at level 4, his mastery of Wings of Wind reached a new height. Qing Ming found himself dissatisfied with the chakra wings currently on his back. As a perfectionist, he couldn't ignore any inadequacies before going into action.

Glancing down at the Mist warships below, Qing Ming flew about ten kilometers away to ensure he would be undetected, then descended to the surface of the ocean. After deactivating Wings of Wind, he took a deep breath and began to adjust his chakra flow according to his newfound insights, reactivating the Wings of Wind technique.

This time, a pair of light blue chakra wings emerged from his back, more compact and precise than before. Each wing now measured about one meter long, a size much better suited to his frame. Qing Ming flexed his wings a few times, finding them significantly more agile and efficient.

However, a full test was needed.

He took to the skies, testing the capabilities of his level 4 Wings of Wind. He darted back and forth, slicing through the air with newfound speed and control. After several rounds, he came to a satisfactory conclusion.

The results were pleasing!

First, his wings were much more agile, giving him better control over his flight. This allowed him greater maneuverability in confined spaces, making it more difficult for enemies to target him.

Next, his flight speed had also increased. At level 3, he could fly at a maximum of thirty meters per second, or roughly 108 kilometers per hour. Now, he could reach forty meters per second, around 144 kilometers per hour—faster than most cars, though still below that of a commercial airliner. He could now cover the same distance in significantly less time.

Finally, there was the matter of chakra consumption. While there was a slight increase, it was manageable and didn't detract from the technique's practicality.

The only drawback was that he still couldn't create a shadow clone equipped with chakra wings. He suspected that this capability would come when Wings of Wind reached level 5.

"A minor regret," he sighed. Shaking his head to clear his mind, he reactivated Wings of Wind and flew back toward the Mist warships. Having dealt with his own preparations, it was time to focus on the mission from the village.

A few minutes later, on one of the Mist Village warships, a Mist Village chunin stood guard on the deck. Suddenly, he felt the light above him darken as though something had blocked it. Looking up, he saw a shadow with wings, moving rapidly across the moonlit sky. His instincts told him it was no ordinary bird.

Focusing his gaze, he found himself staring into a pair of blood-red eyes with three black tomoe swirling within them.

"Sharingan?!" He gasped, his heart racing with alarm as he attempted to call out for help.

But it was already too late. The moment he looked into those eyes, he was trapped in a genjutsu, unable to make a sound.

With a single Genjutsu: Sharingan technique, Qing Ming had silenced the chunin. He wasted no time; in a split second, he increased his speed to the maximum, diving down toward the deck.

"Who's there?" a nearby Mist ninja called out, sensing something amiss. He threw a kunai in Qing Ming's direction.

Qing Ming barely tilted his head, evading the kunai effortlessly. Skimming the surface of the deck, he snatched up the chunin he had trapped in his genjutsu, and then, with a powerful beat of his wings, ascended back into the sky.

His method for completing the mission was simple yet effective—now that he had a captive, extracting information would be straightforward. All that remained was a clean getaway.
