Chapter 524 - Chapter 525: Reinforcements Arrive

After some idle thoughts, Qingming gathered his focus and began converting the training experiences and memories from his shadow clones into skill proficiency.

Unfortunately, due to not dismissing the Shadow Clone Jutsu earlier to refresh their state, the efficiency of their training diminished over time. By the end, the proficiency gained from the same amount of chakra was roughly half of what it used to be.

This left Qingming somewhat frustrated.

After some contemplation, he resolved to allocate time starting tomorrow to process the training experiences of his shadow clones more frequently. This would allow him to convert their experiences into skill proficiency and refresh their states regularly. Even if he couldn't manage once an hour as he typically did during training, the intervals couldn't be too long, or the losses would become significant.

After glancing at the proficiency levels of his various skills, Qingming stopped dwelling on it. He shifted his attention to training in Mystical Palm Technique and Heart Reflection Jutsu.

His training plan for the day was not yet complete, and he could not slack off.

Time quickly passed, and morning arrived.

After only a few hours of sleep, Qingming was abruptly awakened by the sound of an explosion.

Opening his eyes, he was momentarily stunned before quickly sitting up. Forming hand seals, he activated Wind Style: Wings of Wind.

With a whoosh, a pair of faint azure chakra wings unfurled on his back.

With a single flap, Qingming soared into the sky.

From his aerial vantage point, he scanned the direction of the explosion.

As expected, it was another attack from the Kirigakure forces.

Soon, the sound of explosions grew more frequent and intense.

Qingming didn't linger in the sky for long. He quickly descended to the ground, where the entire temporary camp was already awake.

Facing the inquisitive gazes of the gathered shinobi, Qingming tersely informed them, "The Mist Shinobi have launched another attack," and instructed everyone to gear up and eat quickly.

Well, "eating" in this context simply meant consuming rations like soldier pills.

Given the circumstances, there was no time to cook meals—sustenance was all that mattered.

About fifteen minutes later, orders from the command-level Jonin arrived.

Qingming scanned the orders briefly.

Today, their mission was once again to defend a specific zone, preventing the Mist Shinobi from breaking through and further escalating the conflict.

Without delay, Qingming accepted the orders and led his team to their designated area.

As they neared their destination, he repeated his previous tactic, casting Shadow Clone Jutsu to create three clones.

The clones promptly used Transformation Jutsu to change their appearance and left the main group.

The Konoha shinobi under Qingming's command, while curious about his actions, wisely refrained from asking questions.

After all, Qingming's loyalty was unquestionable—why bother digging into his methods?

More importantly, with the impending life-or-death battle, they had no energy to spare for such concerns.

With the war nearing its conclusion, they were more concerned with survival.

Roughly thirty minutes later, the battle began.

Fortunately, the Mist Shinobi forces attacking their defense line were not particularly large in number, allowing everyone to breathe a small sigh of relief.

Qingming, too, felt a moment of relief.

Fewer enemies meant more room for maneuvering. This made it easier for him to create opportunities to absorb the training experiences of his shadow clones and refresh their states.

Time marched on.

Initially, everything progressed as Qingming had envisioned. He was even able to refresh his shadow clones' states every hour, ensuring their training efficiency remained at its peak.

However, by mid-afternoon, the situation took a sharp turn for the worse.

For reasons unknown, a large number of Mist Shinobi broke through from another battlefield and launched a fierce assault on his zone.

This forced Qingming to reveal a portion of his true strength, holding off four Kirigakure Jonin simultaneously.

Thankfully, his extraordinary abilities allowed him to not only withstand their combined attacks but also severely injure one of them. Without this intervention, their defense line would have crumbled long before reinforcements arrived.

There was, however, a silver lining.

After the failed assault, the Mist forces retreated, granting Qingming a rare opportunity to train further.

Over the following days, Qingming faced two similar incidents, each more dangerous than the last.

Post-battle intelligence revealed that several critical Konoha defensive positions had been breached, which explained the frequent intensification of attacks on his zone.

Though the Mist forces were eventually repelled and pushed back to the Yuzun Port, it was clear that the Konoha defenders were nearing their limits.

Thankfully, the worst-case scenario did not come to pass.

Five days later, the first wave of reinforcements from the Sunagakure frontlines arrived. Although their numbers were limited, their arrival served as a much-needed morale boost for the Konoha forces.

Even the increasingly ferocious Mist attacks on the following day were firmly repelled, bolstered by the renewed confidence of the Konoha troops.

By nightfall, with the battlefield temporarily quiet, Qingming made his way to the rear-line field hospital and began treating the injured with practiced skill.

Yes, once again, he took on the role of a medical ninja.

This wasn't the first time.

Three days prior, when the intensity of Mist attacks had spiked, Qingming was reassigned to assist with the growing number of casualties.

Since this provided him with an excellent opportunity to hone his medical techniques, particularly the Mystical Palm Technique, Qingming had willingly accepted the task.

For the past few nights, he had spent time in the hospital, honing his craft.

Although it was only a temporary role, his exceptional medical skills left a deep impression on the injured shinobi and the medical staff alike.

As Qingming skillfully tended to a wounded shinobi's injuries, his mind wandered to the coming days.

With reinforcements from the Sunagakure battlefield arriving steadily, the tide of this conflict was becoming increasingly clear.

Perhaps today's attacks marked the Mist forces' final desperate struggle.

Soon, they would likely be confined to Yuzun Port.

But what about the other three regions where Mist forces had broken through?

This time, Kirigakure had managed to breach four points along the Konoha defense line. However, only this zone was the primary target. The other three locations were staffed with comparatively fewer troops. Could they hold out?

The answer was obvious: they couldn't.

Qingming speculated that Konoha's leadership would soon focus their efforts on reclaiming the other three positions before launching a decisive assault to drive the Mist forces out of the Land of Fire.

That would likely signal the start of negotiations.

But this had little to do with Qingming's immediate concerns. What mattered most to him was when he would be reassigned.

Staying in his current position indefinitely seemed highly unlikely.

To reclaim the other lost positions, Konoha would undoubtedly deploy reinforcements. Naturally, soldiers like Qingming, who hailed from those battlefronts, would be top choices for such missions.

Even if Konoha's leaders decided otherwise, Qingming could always submit a request to volunteer.

He was confident that Nara Keikou wouldn't turn down his offer of assistance.
