Chapter 529 - Chapter 530: Getting the Upper Hand

"Quick, attack!"

Seeing Qiming approach again, the leading Kirigakure jōnin immediately shouted loudly.

As he spoke, he raised his hands to form seals, performing a Water Release ninjutsu.

His mouth opened wide, and a series of water bullets, each the size of a baby's fist, were spat out like dense, rapid-fire projectiles aimed directly at Qiming.

He hoped to delay Qiming's approach with this attack, buying time for the other Kirigakure ninjas to launch their assaults.

However, Qiming could only scoff at his futile effort.

Under the full activation of his Sharingan, the enemy's attacks appeared as if in slow motion, posing no threat whatsoever.

With the exceptional agility provided by the Level 6 Wind Release: Wind Wings, Qiming effortlessly evaded every attack, his speed barely diminishing.

As a result, only the four special jōnin and a few particularly quick-reacting chūnin managed to launch any attacks in time.

Even then, the hastily unleashed ninjutsu and ninja tools were inconsequential to Qiming. He simply activated Earth Release: Harden and Chakra Cloak to endure them head-on.

The former primarily countered physical damage, while the latter offered protection against both ninjutsu and ninja tools.

Admittedly, the Chakra Cloak was only at Level 1, so its defensive power was somewhat limited.

But Qiming wasn't using it solely to block attacks; he also wanted to keep his clothes from being torn to shreds.

During the previous wave of attacks, while Earth Release: Harden had allowed him to endure, his clothes were left riddled with holes. Another round or two, and Qiming feared he'd end up naked.

Though he had several spare uniforms stored in a sealing scroll in his ninja pouch, it wasn't guaranteed the enemies would give him time to change. Fighting unclothed was far from ideal.

Thus, a little extra protection was necessary.

While Qiming viewed this as a practical measure, the Kirigakure ninjas found the technique remarkable.

At this point in the ninja world, no one had ever seen something akin to the resplendent Tailed Beast Cloak of future Naruto.

Qiming's Chakra Cloak, inspired by his memories, was undoubtedly unique.

Although its pale cyan hue, attributed to his Wind Release chakra, lacked the splendor of the Tailed Beast Cloak, its streamlined design and full-body coverage still made it quite striking.

When a few ninjutsu collided with his body, the Chakra Cloak wavered visibly. But thanks to Qiming's persistent maintenance, it stabilized.

With a flap of his wings, Qiming darted out of the attack range of the enemy's ninjutsu.

By this point, the Kirigakure ninjas had no chance to launch a second attack.

Qiming locked onto the Aburame clan ninja hidden among the group, quickly forming seals to unleash Fire Release: Scorching Flame Technique.

This technique, now at Level 6, had significantly improved in both power and subtlety.

Yet, the Aburame ninja still sensed the danger, swiftly sidestepping to evade the attack.

Not only that, but with his Sharingan's exceptional perception, Qiming noticed a peculiar glint in the Aburame ninja's eyes the moment the technique was used.

Suddenly, a realization dawned on Qiming.

He finally understood what he had been overlooking.

Over the past half month or more of combat, he had never hidden his use of the Scorching Flame Technique.

While not classified as a forbidden technique, it was still a secret technique exclusive to Konoha's Anbu, hard to acquire through conventional means.

If Danzo were to notice this detail and investigate how Qiming had obtained it, he'd realize it had appeared out of thin air.

Connecting this to the Sharingan's ability to copy jutsu and the fact that the two Root ninjas stationed on Oni Island knew this technique, it wouldn't take much of a leap to put the pieces together.

While most wouldn't link these seemingly unrelated events, Danzo was a different story.

His inherent malice toward the Uchiha clan meant that even if Qiming weren't responsible, he'd still suspect him. And if there was even a shred of evidence, he'd take action.

This was similar to how Qiming instinctively blamed Danzo whenever he faced sabotage—no matter how unrelated the events seemed, the connections could always be imagined.

Once Danzo tied Qiming to the destruction of the Oni Island base, it would naturally lead to targeted actions.

Though Qiming didn't have solid evidence yet, his instincts told him this was the truth.

That said, even if he guessed that his own actions had set this chain of events in motion, it didn't change his resolve.

Not only did he need to confirm his suspicions, but encountering any Root ninja was enough reason for him to act.

This grudge dated back to when Danzo sent Root ninjas to ambush him after the Chūnin Exams.

Since then, Danzo had made multiple attempts on his life, which Qiming had successfully thwarted, even gaining some advantages in the process. Yet, at its core, he remained the victim.

Thus, no matter the circumstances, he couldn't let Danzo or his subordinates go unpunished.

These thoughts flashed through Qiming's mind in an instant.

With a powerful flap of his wings, he evaded a second wave of attacks, plunging straight into the Kirigakure formation.

As his feet touched the ground, he deactivated Wind Release: Wind Wings.

In the next moment, Qiming stomped the ground, creating spiderweb-like cracks beneath him as he shot forward like a cannonball.

Several Kirigakure chūnin were knocked aside as Qiming closed the gap to the Aburame ninja.

Initially, he intended to subdue the target using Genjutsu: Sharingan.

However, the Aburame ninja reacted quickly, shutting his eyes and darting behind a nearby chūnin for cover.

Clang!

The sound of a blade being drawn rang out.

With a swing of his sword, Qiming channeled dense Wind Release chakra into the blade, striking down the chūnin in his path with a devastating slash.

Hearing the whistling of kunai from behind, Qiming moved nimbly to evade them.

Unrelenting, he surged toward the Aburame ninja once more, delivering another strike.

This time, the ninja raised a kunai to block.

Clink!

The crisp clash of metal echoed.

Looking into the ninja's eyes, Qiming spoke coldly: "Root?"

The Aburame ninja's pupils dilated in shock.

Clearly, he hadn't expected Qiming to recognize his affiliation.

Even with rigorous training, his momentary slip-up didn't escape Qiming's Sharingan.

A cold smile crept across Qiming's face as he abandoned any further talk, thrusting forward with a Level 8 Rasengan.

The chakra sphere struck the ninja's chest, where countless insects converged to absorb the brunt of the impact, narrowly saving his life.

Still, he was gravely injured.

Without hesitation, Qiming sheathed his sword, darted behind the ninja, and struck the back of his neck, knocking him unconscious.

Seizing the limp body, Qiming leapt away, evading the attacks of the other Kirigakure ninjas.

By the time the jōnin caught up, Qiming was already airborne, having reactivated Wind Release: Wind Wings.

As he ascended, the Kirigakure jōnin exchanged puzzled glances.

Qiming's actions were too peculiar.

Why would he go to such lengths to capture an unremarkable chūnin?

Their hesitation cost them precious time, allowing Qiming to escape unscathed.

Even if they hadn't hesitated, it wouldn't have mattered.

Qiming's current strength and techniques left him unafraid of confronting them head-on.

Had he chosen to, he could have wiped out the entire group.

But such a direct approach risked letting some escape, creating future trouble.

Now, their confusion had saved him some effort.

After all, in just a short time, he'd already eliminated seven or eight of them.

To Qiming, a mere thirty Kirigakure ninjas were hardly a threat.
