Chapter 663 - Chapter 665: Encounter and Takeover

Inside the room, Qingming shook his head quietly, no longer dwelling on the matter.

Whatever ambitions Danzo might have had, no matter how much preparation he put into them, they were now nothing more than history.

What Qingming needed to do was simple: clear out the contents of the room as quickly as possible.

With that in mind, Qingming began efficiently removing the books and scrolls from the shelves, stacking them in one place. Then, he reached into his ninja tool pouch and pulled out a storage scroll.

Unfolding the scroll, he formed a series of hand signs and activated the "Sealing Formation" technique.

Immediately, a complex array of sealing runes emerged from the scroll, seemingly coming alive as they crawled toward the pile of books and scrolls. Once the sealing runes had completely engulfed the pile, Qingming adjusted his hand seals and said firmly, "Seal!"

In the next moment, all the books and scrolls vanished, replaced by a prominent "Seal" character on the storage scroll.

Satisfied, Qingming nodded and dusted off his hands. He rolled up the scroll and tucked it away.

He couldn't help but marvel at the efficiency of the Sealing Formation technique. Ever since he had honed it to perfection, it had saved him countless headaches.

Without this scroll, it would have been nearly impossible to discreetly clear out the room's contents. But now, he had done it with ease.

After giving the room one last glance to ensure nothing was left behind, Qingming turned and prepared to leave the base.

His goal had been achieved, and there was no point in lingering any longer.

However, just as he took his second step, a wooden branch shot out from the shadows, wrapping around him.

Yes, a branch.

"Wood Release?"

Qingming muttered under his breath, immediately activating his Byakugan.

His enhanced vision revealed a young boy around eight or nine years old standing in the shadows, wearing a mask that identified him as a Root member.

The branch had extended from the boy's arm.

Seeing this, Qingming immediately pieced together the boy's identity—Yamato. He was one of Orochimaru's experimental subjects, a child who had successfully fused with Hashirama's cells and acquired the ability to use Wood Release.

...Or rather, at this point in time, he should be referred to as "Tenzo."

Qingming looked at the boy, not immediately breaking free from the binding. Instead, he asked with feigned curiosity, "Who are you?"

However, Yamato showed no reaction to the question.

Through the holes in his mask, his cold, vigilant eyes stared unwaveringly at Qingming.

After a moment, he finally spoke. "You're not one of the base's personnel. Who are you, and why are you here?"

His voice was icy, carrying a detached tone that suggested he was ready to attack at any moment.

Seeing this, Qingming shook his head silently.

"Danzo really did a number on this kid," he thought. "What a shame. A perfectly normal child, brainwashed into this state."

Through his Byakugan, Qingming could see that several Root operatives were already converging on their location.

Clearly, Yamato had sent out a signal before confronting him.

With no time to waste, Qingming casually broke free from the wooden branch's restraint.

In a flash, he darted down a different passageway.

While Qingming held a relatively favorable opinion of Yamato, he had no intention of killing him.

Of course, another consideration was that he wanted to avoid exposing his Sharingan.

Even though the village would likely connect the dots, investigating the events, and concluding Qingming was the one responsible, as long as there was no concrete evidence, Qingming still had plausible deniability.

Without direct proof, the village couldn't take drastic measures against him.

After all, Qingming was not just any ordinary shinobi. He was an exceptionally powerful jonin, backed by the Uchiha clan.

For an average ninja, the village could afford to overlook evidence and act on mere suspicion. But for someone of his status, the same approach wouldn't fly.

Because of this, Qingming's actions were not about concealing his identity but about eliminating any traces of evidence.

Erasing the battle scars in the forest and refraining from revealing his Sharingan were all part of this strategy.

These thoughts raced through his mind as Qingming deftly evaded Yamato's persistent Wood Release attacks.

After rounding a corner, Qingming activated his Mangekyou Sharingan and unleashed the ability sealed within his left eye—Heavenly Dominion.

Without a sound, Qingming vanished.

By the time Yamato arrived at the corridor, all he found was an empty hallway.

His confused gaze swept the area, unable to comprehend how his target had disappeared.

Qingming, however, had already slipped past him, maintaining the effects of Heavenly Dominion as he calmly made his way toward the base's entrance.

Along the way, he noticed several Root shinobi setting up defenses to block any possible escape routes.

Unfortunately for them, such arrangements were meaningless against Qingming's ability.

He easily bypassed their barricades and reached the entrance.

After a brief moment to recover his chakra, Qingming prepared to use Heavenly Dominion once more to exit the base.

But before he could act, he noticed a dozen ANBU operatives entering the base in single file.

Judging from their coordinated movements, they were clearly acting under the orders of the Third Hokage, Hiruzen Sarutobi.

Watching this unfold, Qingming could guess the situation: Hiruzen had received word of Danzo's death and was now moving to take control of Root's operations.

"What lengths will he go to for his old 'friend'?" Qingming mused briefly before shaking his head.

Ultimately, it didn't matter what Hiruzen planned. Qingming was confident in his ability to deal with any situation.

In the shinobi world, strength was the ultimate decider. As long as he was strong enough, even standing against the entire world was not out of the question.

Thus, Qingming's priority wasn't predicting Hiruzen's response but focusing on improving himself.

With his mind made up, Qingming once again activated his Mangekyou Sharingan, relying on Heavenly Dominion to casually leave the Root headquarters.

After leaving the base, he didn't return home immediately. Instead, he altered his appearance and quietly exited the village.

It was still before noon, and based on his usual routine, he should be training outside the village at this time.

To avoid suspicion, it was better to leave for now.

Once he had traveled a fair distance, Qingming activated his Byakugan to ensure the surroundings were clear. Then, he summoned Wind Release: Wind Wings and Chakra Cloak.

With a powerful flap of his wings, Qingming transformed into a streak of light, heading south.

This time, instead of returning to the familiar forest for training, he flew past it, eventually arriving at a secluded island.

The island wasn't large, but it provided more than enough space for Qingming to train undisturbed.

Here, he would continue his daily cultivation.
