Chapter 686: I Am the Thunder Emperor, the Soul Emperor Emerges!
Buzz! Buzz!
The green wind orb glowed with a strange light as it slowly descended, piercing through Mu Yu's scalp and entering his head.
Boom!
The moment the green orb entered Mu Yu's body, his entire form turned green. An overwhelming and terrifying energy flooded through him at an alarming speed. In just a blink of an eye, Mu Yu's meridians swelled to their limit, and a sharp, tearing pain surged through them.
Sweat poured from his body like rivers, streaming through every pore. His figure shrank rapidly, and in just a few seconds, his already lean body became even thinner, resembling nothing more than skin and bones.
As sweat cascaded like waterfalls, Mu Yu's face twisted in pain. The agony contorted his features, reflecting the unbearable torment.
Watching this, the Wind Emperor remained calm. The path to becoming an emperor was harsh. If Mu Yu couldn't endure this, then it was better for him to give up now.
Mu Yu's body trembled violently in the whirlwind, and at a certain moment, his eyes suddenly burst open, only for them to explode into a cloud of blood.
Bang!
Following his eyes, Mu Yu's entire body began to erupt in explosions. His form was torn apart, shattered by the immense power of the inheritance.
Seeing this, the Wind Emperor's brow furrowed slightly. This was only the beginning of the journey to becoming an emperor. If Mu Yu couldn't withstand this, not only would his attempt to break through fail, but his physical body and soul would also suffer severe damage.
"An Eight-Star Dou Saint is indeed still too weak..." Mu Yu's soul floated amidst the spreading blood mist. He could feel a deep weakness emanating from within his soul, an overwhelming desire to sleep.
However, the moment this urge surfaced, Mu Yu snapped awake. He knew he was in extreme danger—if he succumbed to that desire to sleep, his soul might gradually dissolve into nothingness.
"My body as an Eight-Star Dou Saint is still too frail to withstand the Wind Emperor's power. But now that my body is destroyed, this is a big problem..." Mu Yu's soul condensed into a glowing sphere of light. Without a body, he couldn't absorb the power of the inheritance, and crafting a new one required complex processes that he didn't have time for.
Just as Mu Yu was grappling with this dilemma, his soul began to flicker violently, and a green light shot out from within—coming from the storm orb he had absorbed earlier. As the green light emerged, the blood mist that had scattered earlier began to gather back together in a strange way.
A miraculous scene unfolded. The blood mist rapidly condensed, enveloping Mu Yu's soul, and in just a few seconds, a new body formed—alive and whole once again.
Feeling his body reconstitute itself, Mu Yu smiled. This new body was even stronger than before.
"To create amidst destruction, continuously forming new bodies to adapt to the powerful force of a Dou Emperor…" Mu Yu muttered softly, his silver eyes glinting.
Boom!
The storm orb within him released another surge of terrifying power, enough to shake the heavens and earth.
Bang!
Once again, Mu Yu's newly formed body exploded into a cloud of blood mist, and even his soul suffered excruciating pain.
"Come on, this time I will become the Thunder Emperor!" Mu Yu's will remained steadfast. His mind stayed sharp, unwavering in the face of the challenge.
As Mu Yu's spirit focused, the exploded blood mist gathered once more, forming a new, even stronger body than before.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
In the heart of the storm, the sound of continuous explosions rang out as Mu Yu's body repeatedly blew apart and reformed, like a perfect cycle.
The Wind Emperor watched this with a faint smile on his aged face, nodding approvingly. Mu Yu's determination and willpower were truly extraordinary, far beyond the average person. This was the right person to make a deal with.
"It seems that the day I return to the world isn't far off either…" The Wind Emperor chuckled softly, a glimmer of hope in his voice.
Time flew by during Mu Yu's grueling training. Two months passed in the blink of an eye.
In that time, Mu Yu had experienced countless cycles of destruction and rebirth. Even with his strong will, his mind was now hazy, his thoughts clouded. Only a sliver of determination remained, guarding his soul. That single, unshakable belief drove his body to slowly adapt to the power of the Emperor.
Meanwhile, over the course of these two months, the Central Plains had plunged into utter chaos. The Soul Clan's great array covered the entire region, turning it into a death trap where no one could enter or leave.
The once-blue sky was now thick with dark, blood-red clouds. The sunlight filtering through cast a gloomy, oppressive light over the land, filling the air with a sense of dread. The stench of blood hung heavily over the Central Plains, and every now and then, beams of blood-red light would shoot out from the clouds, leaving trails of death and devastation in their wake.
It was a catastrophe.
At the start, many factions and sects had been furious about the Soul Clan's actions, banding together to fight. But their anger quickly turned to terror when the blood-red beams obliterated over half of them in a single strike. Now, fear dominated the land.
As sects and clans sought refuge, their only sanctuary was the headquarters of the alliance, Yuan City. It was the last place where the blood beams could not penetrate.
In just a month, the area surrounding Yuan City for hundreds of kilometers was filled with people. Every available space was packed with crowds, as the entire Central Plains teetered on the edge of collapse.
The alliance did everything they could, creating a massive defensive barrier around Yuan City to protect the region from the blood-red beams. Despite their efforts, the situation grew more dire with each passing day. The array, powered by the blood and energy of countless lives, continued to strengthen, making it impossible to break.
As the months passed, the once prosperous Central Plains became a wasteland, resembling the end of the world.
The only thing that grew stronger was the ominous presence within the blood clouds. Everyone knew that when the demon within finally emerged, it would be the end of the Central Plains.
But no one could stop it. All they could do was watch as the blood clouds grew thicker, blocking out the sun.
A true apocalypse loomed.
In Yuan City, a group of figures stood on a high platform, their eyes filled with darkness as they stared at the massive defensive barrier above, beyond which blood clouds roiled in the sky.
"The Soul Heavenly Emperor's aura is growing stronger. He's close to completing the final step," Zhu Kun said after a long, heavy silence.
Hearing this, the others felt their hearts sink.
"Are we just going to stand here and watch him complete it?" Lei Ying gritted his teeth, his voice full of frustration.
"The array is fully formed. Even the energy within those blood clouds is too much for us to handle, let alone break through and face the Soul Heavenly Emperor," Gu Yuan shook his head, clearly frustrated by their helplessness.
His words left everyone clenching their fists in despair. Even they, the strongest of the alliance, felt utterly powerless. What hope did the others have?
"Still, don't give up hope just yet," Gu Yuan said, trying to lift their spirits. "We still have one last chance."
Hearing this, the others seemed to remember their final hope, a glimmer of light appearing in their eyes. Yes, they still had hope…
"We can only pray that Xiao Yan successfully receives the Ancient Emperor's inheritance and that Mu Yu breaks through to the Dou Emperor level. If they do, there's still a chance to turn the tide. Otherwise, the Central Plains will be finished."
Gu Yuan thought of the two legendary youths, his voice filled with a soft determination. "I believe in those two. They're capable of miracles."
"Let's hope so…" The others, touched by his words, allowed themselves a brief smile.
Time passed slowly in a state of panic and despair, as the blood clouds continued to thicken and darken the sky. Three months… four months… half a year…
The blood clouds grew so dense that even sunlight struggled to pierce through. Blood-red beams continued to sweep across the land, filling the air with the stench of death.
Half a year passed in fearful anticipation. There were no great battles, but the suffocating atmosphere of bloodshed drove many to the brink of madness.
Then, in the seventh month, the blood sea above the sky began to stir.
Waves churned as a massive blood-colored lotus slowly rose from the blood sea. Seated upon it was a figure with flowing blood-red hair, some strands of which dipped into the sea like the wings of a demon.
"Such intoxicating power..." The figure's eyes, which had been tightly closed, slowly opened. The blood-red light in his gaze caused the blood sea to ripple violently.
Whoosh!
Behind him, space distorted as a figure wrapped in black flames appeared—it was Void Swallowing Flame.
"There's something extra in the blood sea's energy, isn't there?" the Soul Heavenly Emperor asked with a smile, glancing at Void Swallowing Flame.
"Oh?" Void Swallowing Flame's black flames flickered.
With a smile, the Soul Heavenly Emperor plunged his hand into the blood sea and grabbed. The sea churned as black flames gathered in his palm, forming a ball of black fire.
"If I absorb this, you'll plant a devouring seed inside me, right?" the Soul Heavenly Emperor chuckled, looking at Void Swallowing Flame. "It seems we're not on the same side after all."
"You broke our agreement. You forced my hand!" Void Swallowing Flame's eyes blazed with fury, his hands pressing into the blood sea as a wave of black flames surged toward the Soul Heavenly Emperor.
"Attack!" he shouted.
Around him, space rippled, and dozens of Soul Clan elders controlled by Void Swallowing Flame appeared. Without hesitation, they unleashed torrents of black fire toward the Soul Heavenly Emperor.
"Hmph, you think you can challenge me now? You're courting death!" the Soul Heavenly Emperor sneered as he stood from the blood lotus and laughed.
In an instant, a power that surpassed heaven and earth exploded from his body, sending shockwaves through the endless blood sea.
Boom! Boom! Boom!
The Soul Clan elders were caught in the turmoil, enveloped by blood bubbles that burst, reducing their bodies to mere blood mist. Without any chance to react, they were obliterated by the Soul Heavenly Emperor.
"You've reached the Dou Emperor level?!" Void Swallowing Flame's voice trembled with shock and fear as he felt the overwhelming power emanating from the Soul Heavenly Emperor. (End of Chapter)
