Chapter 196 - Chapter 195: That's my girl!

Gladion with a subtle flick of his wrist, he released Mystique, his Milotic.

Across from him, Aaron mirrored the action, summoning his Sharpedo.

'A Sharpedo. Huh?' Gladion thought as he assessed the threat. 'I won't be able to rely on Mystique's speed in this battle. Sharpedo can swim at speeds of 75 mph by jetting seawater through its body. It is called the bandit of the sea. Mystique would not be able to come close to it in speed despite her training.'

Aaron's eyes narrowed as he watched Mystique settle into the water,

'So he is using his Milotic. This is bad. I have no plan against her healing moves. She has 3 healing moves and can heal from almost everything. Sharpedo needs to be fast and stop her from healing herself.'

The big screens overhead flickered to life, underwater cameras were poised to capture every submerged skirmish too.

Aaron broke the tension first as he made the first move, "Sharpedo, Aqua Jet!"

Instantly, a sheath of pressurized water enveloped Sharpedo, transforming it into a living torpedo.

The Pokémon rocketed forward, seawater jetting from its gills in explosive bursts, propelling it toward Mystique at blinding speed.

Gladion knew that whatever move he calls now will be less powerful than a very fast Sharpedo rushing at Mystique at high speeds with high water pressure. It was basic physics.

"Aqua Tail!" Gladion commanded.

Mystique's tail glowed with azure energy, whipping through the water in a powerful arc. It connected with the water-cloaked Sharpedo mid-charge, the impact sending ripples exploding outward.

The collision dulled some of the Aqua Jet's ferocity, dispersing the pressurized shell just enough to blunt its edge. Yet Sharpedo's momentum dealt a serious blow.

Mystique recoiled, her body hurled backward through the depths of the water.

"Mystique, heal yourself with Aqua Ring," Gladion said.

Mystique twisted in the water, her body glowing softly as translucent rings of water materialized around her, pulsing with healing light.

But Aaron was a step ahead,He saw the glow, the telltale sign of recovery, and barked his order without pause.

"Don't let her—be quick and Bite her!"

Sharpedo clamped down on Mystique's slender neck with vicious precision. The bite was brutal, tearing into scales and flesh alike.

The cameras captured it all in stark clarity: blood blooming from the wound, Mystique's cry echoing muffled through the water that sent a shiver through the spectators. The healing move was also successfully interuppeted.

Sharpedo was exposed now. It's head was in front of Mystique's maw.

"Water Pulse!" Gladion ordered, seizing the moment.

A pulsating orb of water formed at Mystique's mouth and launched it toward the Sharpedo.

"Dodge it by backing away!" Aaron countered swiftly.

Sharpedo released its hold. It jetted backward, the Water Pulse streaking harmlessly past, distorting the water in its wake without so much as grazing the shark.

Mystique shuddered, the wound throbbing, but Gladion pressed the advantage of the brief respite. "Mystique, heal yourself again with Aqua Ring," he ordered, watching as water-type energy coalesced around her underwater once more.

Aaron's eyes widened in disbelief, his mind reeling. 'What? It can use Aqua Ring again? Shouldn't it be at a cooldown after I interrupted it once?'

Aaron ordered, "No matter—don't let her. Take down!"

Sharpedo exploded forward again, closing the gap in an instant. Its body tensed for the crushing tackle, jaws parted for another bite.

But Mystique's eyes gleamed with cunning, a mirror to Gladion's own smirk.

She had feigned the healing glow to sell the ruse. Her tail lashed out in a devastating Aqua Tail, the strike landing square on Sharpedo's underbelly.

The blow was send the shark spiraling upward, bursting through the surface.

The crowd roared as Sharpedo flailed mid-air, dazed from the unexpected counter. Gladion didn't hesitate. "Life Dew now!"

Mystique channeled the move seamlessly, droplets of revitalizing dew cascading over her form underwater.

The bite mark on her neck sealed shut, the ragged edges of the wound knitting together in a soft glow.

Aaron grimaced, 'Of course. He tricked me into thinking that he could use Aqua Ring again when Milotic can't again in this battle. And he took this as an chance to hit Sharpedo and use the distraction to heal.'

Mystique broke into the water's surface then.

Aaron's grimace deepened, but he wouldn't yield ground. Time to unleash the heavy artillery. "Sharpedo, Liquidation!"

Water coalesced around Sharpedo's head, swirling violently until it sharpened into the form of a jagged drill.

With a guttural roar, the Pokémon launched itself at Mystique, the drill spinning at terrifying speeds, carving through the water like a buzzsaw.

Gladion met the assault head-on,

"Dragon Tail!"

Mystique's tail ignited with draconic energy. The two moves collided in a cataclysmic clash. The impact send sprays of water arcing high into the battlefield.

Both Pokémon were hurled back into the depths. Mystique surfaced first, gasping, her body marred with fresh gashes from the attack, her breaths coming in labored heaves.

Sharpedo, however, did not resurface. It floated limply.

The announcer's voice crackled over the speakers, "Despite the recent reveal of Fairy types, Dragon type moves are still the strongest with the most damage. And Sharpedo is no Fairy type to take the brunt of a Dragon type move."

The crowd erupted as Aaron's face twisted in frustration as he raised Sharpedo's Poké Ball, the red beam pulling the defeated Pokémon back into stasis. He took his time to release his next Pokemon.

Across the water, Gladion wasn't idle. He saw Aaron's pause and seized the moment.

"Mystique, Recover!" Her final healing move unfurled. The gashes from Liquidation sealed, vitality flooding back into her weary frame.

She was renewed, pristine once more, though there was still some subtle exhaustion in her movements—a reminder that even miracles had limits.

Aaron's thoughts fractured under the pressure. 'She's back to full health. But that leaves her vulnerable now. She has no more healing moves left.'

Aaron hurled the next ball. "Vaporeon, you're up!"

The Eeveelution materialized in a splash, landing gracefully on one of the floating platforms.

Gladion struck first, unwilling to let the momentum slip. "Mystique, Surf!"

A colossal wave erupted from the water, summoned by Mystique's cry—a towering wall of frothing water that roared toward Vaporeon, threatening to engulf the arena entirely.

"Dive into the water and swim deep. And use Aurora Beam once you are deep."

Aaron knew the command would carry only so far underwater, the waves muffling sound, so he layered in the follow-up commands preemptively.

Vaporeon plunged beneath the surface without hesitation, her body merging seamlessly with the blue expanse, vanishing like a ghost. Vaporeon's skin acted as a camouflage under water.

The Surf crashed over the empty platform, splintering wood and sending debris flying, but Vaporeon was gone.

Mystique dove after her into the water.

Then, from the deep, —Vaporeon's Aurora Beam struck Mystique square in the side.

Half her body froze solid in an instant, locking her in place, the cold seeping into her core.

Gladion knew she was a sitting target.

"Now, Hydro Pump!" Aaron ordered.

The blast erupted from Vaporeon's hidden position.

Gladion ordered "Turn a little and put your frozen body in front of the attack."

The high-pressure torrent hammered into Mystique. The frozen shell shattered under the assault, but not without cost.

The Hydro Pump's force tore at her skin and frostbite nipped at her exposed flesh.

Vaporeon materialized beside Mystique in a blur. Aaron pressed the advantage.

"Tail Whip!"

Vaporeon's tail glowed.

"Wrap it—catch that tail!" Gladion snapped back.

Mystique's tail coiled like a vice, snaring Vaporeon's mid-swing.

"Throw her into the air!" Gladion followed up.

With a surge of muscle and will, Mystique heaved, flinging Vaporeon skyward in a graceful arc.

"End this—Hydro Pump!" Gladion roared.

A majestic jet of water burst from Mystique's mouth, arcing upward to meet Vaporeon midair. The blast connected with devastating precision, slamming into her airborne form and propelling her like a cannonball.

Vaporeon hurtled across the battlefield, crashing into the arena barriers with a resounding crack, her body slumping unconscious.

Gladion grinned,'Thats my girl!'
