Aaron did not wait for Gladion to send a Pokemon as he sent out his next command to take advantage of the time.
"Ludicolo, Rain Dance!" he commanded.
Ludicolo spun, arms outstretched, summoning dark clouds that gathered ominously above. Rain began to fall, a steady patter that intensified into a downpour.
Ludicolo vanished in a red beam as Aaron recalled it, a strategic retreat to preserve his ace for later.
The referee's voice boomed through the rain. "Trainers, do you wish to change the battlefield, or continue with this one?"
Gladion, exchanged a glance with Aaron. "Let's change it. I have already given you enough of an advantage," Gladion said, his tone even.
Aaron nodded, though his grimace betrayed his reluctance. "Fine."
The arena groaned as machinery beneath the surface activated, the water draining away to reveal a new battlefield: a sprawling desert of golden sand.
Aaron's jaw tightened. 'A desert field. This limits my water advantage, and the rain won't last forever.' He cursed inwardly, knowing the shift favored Gladion's versatility.
Gladion, as the trainer whose Pokémon was knocked out first, had to sent his Pokemon first.
He reached for a Poké Ball, his lips curling into a faint, confident smirk. "Hisoka, let's play!" he called, tossing the ball skyward.
Gliscor burst forth, its bat-like wings slicing through the rainy air, pincers clicking with a menacing glee.
Its laugh was wild, almost unhinged, echoing like a predator toying with its prey. [Time to play!] it hissed.
Aaron's eyes narrowed, assessing the airborne threat. He reached for his next Poké Ball. "Go, Pelipper!"
The gull-like Pokémon materialized, wings flapping as it took to the sky, rain glistening on its feathers.
Aaron's mind raced. 'A flying battle, then. Let's see how that Gliscor handles the rain.'
"So he wants it to be a flying battle," Gladion thought, his smirk widening. 'Sucks to be him. His Pelipper has no chance against Hisoka.'
The Gliscor's speed and agility were unmatched in the air, and Gladion knew it.
"Water Gun!" Aaron ordered.
Pelipper's beak opened, and a jet of water shot forth, enhanced by the Rain Dance's lingering effect. The normally weak move surged with unexpected force towards Hisoka.
The Gliscor cackled, wings tilting as it dodged effortlessly, spiraling upward into the rainy sky where the water couldn't reach. The jet splashed harmlessly into the muddy sand below.
Aaron's jaw tightened. "Pelipper, after him!"
Pelipper beat its wings, ascending into the storm clouds, chasing the elusive Gliscor. The two Pokémon vanished into the sky, their forms obscured by the rain.
The crowd craned their necks, the big screens struggling to track the aerial duel.
Aaron scanned the heavens, searching for his Pokémon. Then, to his shock, Hisoka appeared—not in the clouds, but hovering just above Gladion's platform, pincers snapping with predatory glee.
'I could have sworn I saw him high in the sky just a second ago. When did he come down? Just how fast is that Gliscor?' Aaron's mind reeled, the sheer speed of Hisoka's maneuver catching him off guard.
Gladion seized the moment, his voice calm but commanding. "Swords Dance!"
Hisoka spun in midair, spectral swords of energy materializing around it, swirling in a deadly dance before fading.
The move's power surged through the Gliscor, its attack strength now amplifiedm
Aaron's pulse quickened. 'That boost makes him even more dangerous. Pelipper's too slow to keep up naturally. I will have to do something to increase his speed.'
He needed to level the playing field. "Tailwind!" he ordered when he saw Pellipper in his line of sight.
Pelipper's wings glowed briefly, a gust of wind whipping up behind it, accelerating its movements. The rain-slicked air shimmered as the Tailwind took effect, granting Pelipper a burst of speed to rival Hisoka's aerial prowess.
"Wing Attack!" Aaron commanded.
Pelipper's wings glowed with energy as it dove, aiming to strike Hisoka with a powerful sweep. The gull's enhanced speed made it a viable threat, closing the distance with surprising agility.
Gladion's smirk didn't falter. He knew that he could trust in his Gliscor's speed and reflexes. "Catch it!"
Hisoka twisted gracefully, wings tilting to evade the glowing wings. As Pelipper passed, Hisoka's pincer snapped out, clamping onto the gull's wing with unyielding force.
Pelipper squawked, trapped in the Gliscor's grip, unable to break free. "Throw it in the air!" Gladion ordered.
With a wicked chuckle, Hisoka hurled Pelipper upward, the gull tumbling helplessly through the rainy sky. Before it could recover, Gladion's voice rang out again. "X-Scissor!"
Hisoka's pincers glowed with crossed energy, slashing through the air in a devastating arc. The attack struck Pelipper mid-flight, the enhanced power from Swords Dance amplifying the blow. Pelipper plummeted, crashing into the muddy desert below, unconscious before it hit the sand.
Aaron recalled Pelipper with a grimace, his mind racing. 'Four down. That Gliscor's a monster—too fast, too strong after that boost from swords dance. I will have to do something to limit it's speed.' He reached for another Poké Ball, his options dwindling. "Golduck, you're up again!"
Golduck materialized on the desert field, its gem glinting as the rain continued to fall. Aaron didn't hesitate. "Psychic on the desert sand—create a sand hurricane!"
Golduck's eyes blazed with violet light, and the sand around it surged upward, whipped into a swirling vortex by its psychic power.
The rain mixed with the grains, creating a gritty, blinding hurricane that engulfed the battlefield.
Gladion's eyes widened. The sand hurricane, combined with the lingering Rain Dance, created a nightmarish environment for Hisoka.
Hisoka who was still airborne, faltered as the sandstorm battered its wings and the rain weighing it down.
Gladion mind raced for a counter. 'I will have to to get in close. Distance would not help me right now.'
"Acrobatics!" Gladion ordered.
Hisoka dove, fighting the hurricane's pull. It landed two vicious strikes on Golduck, pincers slashing with devastating force.
The Psychic-type staggered, blood trickling from the wounds. Aaron gave his next command, "Full power Psychic push!"
Golduck's gem pulsed, and a telekinetic wave slammed into Hisoka, hurling the Gliscor into the heart of the sand hurricane.
The sandstorm battered it and Hisoka struggled inside it. It's wings faltered inside the sand.
As the standstorm ended, Hisoka was left unconscious.
He reached for his next Poké Ball, a glint of anticipation in his eyes. "Craggy, time for your debut!"
The Poké Ball opened, and a Pokémon emerged that drew a collective gasp from the crowd.
The announcer's voice boomed, tinged with awe and disbelief. "Would you look at that? Gym Leader Gladion is spoiling us rotten with all the surprises that he gives us in his matches. Now if you all will excuse my language. What the fuck is that Pokémon?"
