Gladion arrived in a flash of psychic light right in front of Mt. Silver. It was massive. You could call it the Mount Everest of this world. It's peak was lost into the clouds.
Mt. Silver sat in Johto, west of Victory Road and the Indigo Plateau. The Plateau was Indigo's capital, the heart of both regions, so the military presence here was huge. After all, if Mt. Silver wasn't defended properly, wild Pokémon could spill into Kanto and Johto, destroying towns, farms, and forests.
Hundreds of thousands of Pokémon lived inside, Ursaring, Donphan, Steelix, and more. A single wrong move, and the ecosystem would collapse. Cities would burn. People would die.
And they needed to be controlled near the base of Mt.Silver. because after that, they would spread throughout the regions and it would be difficult to find and bring them back here. They would destroy the natural ecosystem of Pokemon. Battles between wild Pokemon would break out for new territory. In short, It would be a bloodbath.
That's why Mt.Silver was surrounded by military bases and ranger outposts on all sides. Dozens of military fortresses were on each side. It was not the first time a beast tide came down but it was the first time so many different Pokemon together decided to come down the Pokemon and then there was the legendary Pokemon Moltres.
Dust clouds swirled down the slopes like a brown storm. Countless flying Pokémon filled the sky. Pidgeot, Fearow, Crobat. They screeched and dove, held back only by military and ranger Pokémon firing warning shots. Booms echoed as Rock Slide barriers exploded upward, trying to block paths.
High above, a bright yellow-orange glow burned in the sky. Even from tens of kilometers away, Gladion felt the heat on his skin, like standing near a bonfire. No doubt, that was Moltres. Its flames lit the sky red.
'To think, just like in the games, Moltres lives in Mt. Silver,' Gladion thought. 'My anime knowledge helped find Latios and Latias, but it seems for other legendaries, I'll need to rely on game knowledge too for their locations. Not like I am planning to catch and get myself more Legendaries. I don't want to get myself killed for my greed. Latios and Latias decided to stay with me because I am somehow their little brother. I don't think the other Legendaries would consider me family. Wait...If I was a relative of Arceus, would that make me divine? Well. Something to think about when I am free.'
He scanned the area with psychic senses and locked onto the largest military outpost. Several bases dotted the area, but this one was the biggest with tents, radar dishes, Pokémon healing stations, and a giant stone wall built by Rock-type Pokémon.
Onix and Golem had used Stone Edge to form a massive barrier around the mountain's base. It wouldn't stop big Pokémon like Tyranitar, but it could slow them, maybe make larger ones step on smaller ones in the chaos. This would reduce their numbers even though it was cruel. It was after all survival of the fittest.
Gladion teleported straight into the heart of the base. The second he appeared, Pokémon growled. A dozen trainers surrounded him, soldiers with Growlithe, rangers with Noctowl, all on high alert.
They knew that this Pokemon tide was a result of human intervention and a human teleporting in their base was very suspicious.
"Who are you?" a young officer barked, hand on his Poké Ball.
Gladion stayed calm. "Gym Leader Gladion, sent by Champion Lance to handle the situation."
The soldiers saluted fast. Relief washed over their faces. "Finally, backup!" one muttered.
A rough voice laughed behind them. "And they sent Maren's brat's brat! What a glorious day!"
Gladion turned. An old general with scars across his face grinned at him. White hair, missing an eye, but sharp as a blade. Gladion recognized him from Grandpa Maren's old war stories, one of the commanders of Kanto army who fought in the Infinite Pokémon War along with his grandpa and was now a General of the Indigo army even in his old age.
The general's eye sparkled. "I fought beside your grandpa, boy. He zaved my hide from a rampaging Gyarados once. Can't wait to tell Maren I outlasted him and fought with his grandson on the other side! Bahahaha!"
He slapped his knee, laughing like a madman. Soldiers chuckled nervously. Gladion stood stunned. 'He's cracking jokes with a legendary bird about to torch us? Grandpa's friends are nuts.'
Gladion could see people from media had already arrived even before him at the base.
Reporters swarmed a corner of the base, cameras rolling, drones buzzing. "Live from Mt. Silver!" one shouted into a mic. Gladion sighed. 'Even now, they want breaking news. Idiots.'
The general wiped a tear. "Alright, boy. How do you plan to deal with Moltres?"
Gladion focused. 'I can't teleport straight to it. Moltres has saturated the mountain with his aura. It would be impossible to teleport. Only a psychic Pokémon matching its strength could break through. And only a legendary Psychic Pokemon would be able to match Moltres.' Gladion though had Latios and Latias who could teleport him to the top of the mountain directly in front of Moltres, but revealing them now would be stupid.
'Guess we do it the old-fashioned way.' Gladion thought
The general nodded, reading his face. "We charge the mountain. Military and rangers will hold the tide. You handle the bird."
Gladion agreed. Soldiers gulped. Charging against hundreds of thousands of angry Pokémon? Most here were young. born after the Infinite Pokemon war and were used to peace. They pictured being trampled by Ursaring or burned by a stray Flamethrower from Moltres. Fear showed in their eyes.
Gladion sighed again. 'Gotta raise their morale. Good thing I've got speeches ready for this.'
