Chapter 241 - Chapter 240: Aftermath (2)

With the battle ending on Mt. Silver and things calming down, Koga and Gladion moved to take care of the situation.

The job was still not completed. They had to account for the losses and if there were still some species of Pokemon still fighting.

Gladion flew slowly on Elder Green and looked at the damage the Pokémon wave had caused.

The mountain looked like a graveyard. Dead Pokémon lay everywhere. Some had been trampled by bigger ones in the stampede.

A small Rattata lay crushed under a Rhydon foot. A family of Parasect huddled around one of their own that would never move again.

A young Pidgey cried over its mother's broken wing. Blood stained rocks and grass.

Gladion heard cries of sorrow from every direction. A Nidoqueen rocked a small Nidoran body and wailed.

A group of Geodude circled a fallen friend and made low, sad sounds. Injured Pokémon limped or lay still, breathing weak.

The mountain that had been full of life now felt empty and broken. Gladion's chest hurt. These Pokémon had families. They had homes. They had only been angry because humans stole their eggs. Now many would not only have the lose of their eggs being stolen but also the lose of their families, their loved ones and friends.

If this was how a battle happened during the Infinite wars, It made Gladion wonder how much dead bodies, pain and loss would be during that time when such battles were occuring every day.

Moltres let out one final loud screech that echoed across every slope. The few wild Pokémon still fighting stopped at once.

They turned and retreated into caves or forests. Gladion could see that some were reluctant but still obeyed The queen of the mountain.

The mountain grew quiet except for the cries of the hurt and the grieving.

Gladion flew to the Tyranitar family. They stood together unharmed. Collosus's mother looked at Gladion with soft eyes.

[I watched my son battle today,] she said proudly. [He has grown strong under you. Stronger than any of us could have imagined. He faced the Queen of the Mountain's flames and roared in the face of that. He was a true Tyrnaitar, no....he was a Tyrnaitar among Tyrnaitars.]

She looked at the Poké Ball on Gladion's necklace. [I did not raise him myself, but he is still my little egg. It fills my heart to see him stand toe to toe with the mountain queen.]

Collosus's father looked worried at the same Poké Ball. His big rocky face showed fear for his son's condition.

Gladion smiled gently. "I will make sure Collosus visits you both once he recovers. He is soft-hearted, just like his father."

The father Tyranitar looked embarrassed and rubbed his head. The mother laughed a deep rumble.

Gladion flew down to the old general. The man stood strong, but his Arcanine had wounds on its sides. The other Pokémon were already returned to their balls.

The general saw Gladion and laughed loudly. "Hohoho! You survived, brat! You gave us quite a show today."

He grew serious. "I will not bore you with questions. You have earned the respect of every soldier here, kid—no, Gym Leader."

He gave Gladion a sharp military salute. Gladion nodded back with full respect.

Gladion looked around. Some soldier Pokémon lay dead. A few human bodies lay covered with jackets. The human losses were low compared to what could have happened, but every life gone felt heavy.

Koga flew up beside him. "You can go rest and treat your Pokémon. I will handle things here. I have already sent my people to follow Team Rocket trails and find where theyhad kept the eggs."

Gladion nodded without argument. He was too tired to teleport far. He asked Ultron to take him home.

In a flash he appeared inside Moonwood Gym. He walked straight to the medical ward.

The gym had the best healing facilities in the region. Nurses trained by Nurse Joy Academy worked side by side with Chansey and Blissey.

Gladion gave every Poké Ball to the head nurse. "Take care of them, please."

He explained Tengen's condition carefully. The nurses moved fast. Treatment started at once. Special care went to Tengen's burned stump.

When treatment finished, Gladion visited each bed. His Pokemon seemed to be in quite spirited after facing a legendary.

Guy sat up and flexed. [Youth has triumphed again! Nothing can dim the shining spirit of friendship and hard work! YOSH!]

Lee punched the air slowly. [Next time I want more punches on that bird. I was just getting started!]

Mystique looked in a small mirror. [These little burn marks add mysterious beauty to my already beautiful self. What will I do with even more perfect scales? The world is not ready.]

Zeus sparked happily. [I zapped a legendary! My thunder made her think twice!]

Nyx curled comfortably. [Shadows always win in the end. We just let the light think it is important.]

Hydros tested his cannons with a small water spray. [Clean victory. Water puts out fire every time.]

Gladion came at last to Collosus. The big Tyranitar had the most burns, but the healers said he would make a full recovery in a month.

Gladion smiled. "Not bad for our first Mega Evolution. Our opponent was a real legendary."

Collosus grunted in agreement and gave a tired thumbs up.

Gladion moved to the final bed with a heavy heart.
