Lian's Explosive Power duration was similar to Aqua Jet, and once he surpassed Sharpedo, it struggled to catch up.
Unless Sharpedo utilized moves like Agility for sustained speed enhancement, over time, Lian would inevitably outpace it.
The primary reason was that Lian lacked acceleration moves akin to Agility; he had never learned such techniques. In reality, there was no need, as his tripled burst speed combined with already high base speed ability made him formidable.
In battle, among Pokemon of equal levels, very few could surpass Lian's speed. Even if they attempted acceleration moves like Agility, often before completing the move, they'd be swiftly defeated by Lian.
As Lian overtook Sharpedo, Kalia broke into a joyful smile. Her long black hair whipped wildly in the wind. Once their speed slowed down, she took a moment to tie her hair back.
Kalia then glanced back at Mark and Sharpedo, waving cheerfully with a radiant grin.
"How can your Charizard be so fast?!" Mark shouted incredulously, his eyes wide with disbelief. He initially thought he could easily outpace Charizard.
"Not over yet!" Mark felt quite annoyed at being outpaced by Kalia's Charizard. However, he noticed that Charizard's speed was primarily burst-based, while his Sharpedo maintained high velocity consistently.
"Sharpedo, use Agility!" Determined to catch up with this Charizard today, Mark relied on Agility. Although not as swift as Aqua Jet, Agility could be sustained for longer periods, giving him confidence to surpass Charizard eventually.
"Charizard, can you accelerate further?"
Lian nodded affirmatively. After reaching 3.23 Explosive Speed, the cooldown period between bursts significantly shortened, although it still seemed lengthy during battle.
Upon receiving the command, Sharpedo activated Agility, instantly increasing its speed. This move progressively boosted velocity continuously.
In game terms, upon completion, Agility increased the Pokemon's speed stat by two levels, effectively doubling its speed ability value.
Lian waited patiently, watching as Sharpedo neared him. Just before overtaking, he flapped his wings, triggering another burst of speed.
With a sonic boom, Lian surpassed the sound barrier, rapidly widening the gap and leaving Sharpedo far behind.
"Sharpedo, keep using Agility!" Mark grew anxious, astonished by how incredibly fast this Charizard was moving—it seemed almost unreal.
After surpassing Sharpedo, Lian gradually returned to his normal speed. By then, he had created a significant distance between them. However, with Sharpedo's current velocity, catching up was inevitable.
"If this continues, they'll eventually catch me," Lian thought helplessly. Although his explosive burst was powerful, the cooldown period was too long, which made sense; otherwise, it would be unbeatable.
Lian speculated that as the Explosive Power multiplier increased, reaching five or six times its base value, the cooldown interval might shorten, and the duration of the burst could extend.
A six-fold increase in speed likely represented the maximum potential for a Pokemon, although he hadn't tested this theory yet. In the game, the highest speed boost available was also six times, suggesting it might be the limit for Pokemon.
Just as Sharpedo surged forward, closing the gap rapidly, a triumphant roar echoed from the distance, seemingly originating from a human voice.
"Woo-hoo!"
Kalia looked towards the sky following the sound and spotted a figure streaking past like lightning, impossibly swift, traversing the horizon in an instant.
Lian recognized it immediately, although Kalia couldn't clearly see the Pokémon. It was a Dragonite.
While Dragonite's base speed stat isn't exceptionally high, its burst speed is remarkable, primarily due to mastering the Extreme Speed move.
What astonished Lian was that this Dragonite had reached supersonic speeds. Clearly, it was using Extreme Speed, but maintaining such velocity for an extended period indicated exceptional prowess.
"Let's catch up and take a closer look."
Lian swiftly accelerated, intrigued by the Dragonite's impressive speed. He wanted to determine if it was solely utilizing Extreme Speed or inherently possessed such swiftness.
However, naturally, a Dragonite would not be this fast. With a base speed stat of 80, even at level 100, a Dragonite typically wouldn't exceed a speed ability value of around 2,000. Hence, it must have been primarily driven by the boost from Extreme Speed.
Boom!
After surging his own speed, Lian chased after the Dragonite in the sky, surpassing the sound barrier. Unfortunately, he couldn't keep up despite his burst of acceleration, realizing that this Dragonite remained too swift for him.
This Dragonite must have been of very high level; otherwise, even with Extreme Speed, it wouldn't achieve such velocity. Lian's maximum speed burst was only around 5,000, yet this Dragonite surpassed him, likely possessing at least 6,000 speed ability points.
Considering the boost from Extreme Speed, a Dragonite with approximately 2,000 base speed would undoubtedly reach over 6,000 after using the move.
"What kind of Pokemon is that?" Kalia couldn't clearly see the creature but sensed it must be exceptionally powerful.
"That's a Dragonite!" Mark, who had caught up behind them, noticed the Pokemon in the sky and explained.
Kalia exclaimed, "Can you identify it so clearly?"
The figure in the sky was barely distinguishable, only recognizable as a Pokemon due to its altitude and rapid flight speed.
"I don't need to see clearly. In the Sebas region, there's only one Pokemon with such speed - Dragon Elite Taro's Dragonite," Mark stated confidently.
"Dragon Elite Taro?" Kalia was taken aback. Honestly, she hadn't encountered any particularly strong Trainers until now. Her limited experience included only the battle against Zapdos, involving Dark Guild members and ship security guards during that incident.
Those individuals seemed to be High-Level Trainers but still fell short of reaching the pinnacle.
Elite Four members represented the highest echelon within each region, surpassing even High-Level Trainers. They had honed their Pokémon to extraordinary levels, nearly comparable to Legendary Pokémon.
"Yes, Dragon Elite Taro will oversee this exchange tournament, and you'll get to meet him then," Mark nodded affirmatively.
"From what I know, isn't Dragonite typically not that fast?" Kalia questioned, puzzled. Based on her understanding, despite being a Pseudo-legendary Pokémon, Dragonite's speed was seemingly hindered by its size, making it relatively slower than expected.
"A regular Dragonite wouldn't be, but remember, this is the Dragon Elite's Dragonite. It can't possibly be compared to ordinary ones." Mark's eyes sparkled with admiration. Every Trainer envies and respects the Elite Four, as many may never achieve or even come close to their level throughout their lifetime.
"An Elite Four member..." Kalia murmured, watching the Dragonite disappear further into the distance.
