Markus threw his head back and laughed, the sound loud and unrestrained, It filled the car, bouncing off the windows.
He slapped the steering wheel, breathless. "Did you see him?" he said, eyes bright, feral with triumph. "The moment it hit him, when he realized you weren't bluffing?"
Ahmet leaned back in his seat, his chest tight, pain pulsing beneath his ribs, but satisfaction curled slowly and deep in his gut. He could still see it as clearly as if Marco were sitting between them now; the way his face had drained of color, the way his mouth had opened, then closed again, like he was searching for words that could save him.
"The fear," Ahmet said quietly. "It crept in behind his eyes. He tried to hide it, but it was already too late."
