Chapter Two Hundred and Fourteen
Her head tilted, curiosity slipping in before she could hide it. "Really? What? How?" She stopped herself, then let out a small breath. "Where is he?"
Cole didn't answer right away.
His gaze dropped, then shifted to the side, like he suddenly found something far more interesting on the wall. His jaw tightened, just slightly. Regret flickered across his face quickly, but not quickly enough.
Asli caught it.
Her brow lifted. Did he not want to tell her? She just realized she knew nothing personal about him.
"Come on," she said, a faint edge of amusement in her voice. "I'm not that hard to talk to. Or am I?" she added, tilting her head. "Why does everyone act like they're walking on glass around me?"
A quiet chuckle left him, though it didn't quite reach his eyes.
"You can't blame them," he said, rubbing the back of his neck. "You are…"
He paused, searching for the right word or so it seemed.
"Too professional."
