"How did you get here?"
Ron didn't answer. Instead, he smiled and reached into Sumas's space, pulling out the humanoid Nen tool—Rosgell.
"What is that?"
Rosgell's pupils shrank the moment he saw the object.
"That's… a part of my body?"
"Sorry for meeting you this way, Rosgell-senpai," Ron said. "But when I first came across your corpse, it had already taken on the form of a Nen tool. By coincidence, it fused with one of my Nen beasts."
"As for why I came here, it's because I used a divination ability and saw something."
Rosgell was silent for a while. "It doesn't matter. I'm already dead. To be honest, whether it's my body or my consciousness, neither is truly 'me' anymore. They're just fragments left behind from my death."
"You've obtained it—so now it belongs to you."
"But tell me, why did you come here? What is it you want?"
"I'd like to propose a trade, Rosgell-senpai," Ron said.
"A trade?" Rosgell frowned.
"I believe you've already seen the current situation," Ron continued. "If no one intervenes, Chris and the others will succeed. And if that happens, everything you worked for will be destroyed. Mingbo will become no different from the other nations. Your ideals, your vision—they'll never be realized."
"What I need is something very similar to this."
As he spoke, Ron took out a strange object—formed previously by the fusion of the four pieces of the Dark Sonata. It radiated an eerie aura that felt out of place in the human world. It didn't resemble Nen—it had surpassed the domain of Nen entirely.
When it had first "awakened," Ron sensed that it was crucial to Yuzuru Yamai, capable of making her more complete. Unfortunately, she hadn't reached S-rank yet, so she couldn't use it.
But Rosgell, as a humanoid Nen tool, had already reached S-rank.
And within Mingbo, there existed another object very similar to the fused Dark Sonata piece. Ron had seen it in his divination. It had shocked him—but even more than that, it had thrilled him.
Rosgell's gaze flickered. "I didn't expect you to have obtained something like this."
"So, Rosgell-senpai, do you agree to the trade?"
"I agree. That object has no use for me anymore," Rosgell said. "If you deal with Chris and the others, I'll give it to you."
"Thank you, Rosgell-senpai."
"No need for thanks—it's just a transaction. But… would you consider another trade?"
"Another one?" Ron asked.
"You may defeat Chris, but Mingbo's deeper problems won't disappear. Without Chris, someone else will eventually take his place. I want this problem resolved at its root."
Ron hesitated. "What do you want me to do?"
"I'll teach you the Divine Characters and Divine Sound that I mastered. In return, you help me modify the Nen Pattern Grand Array."
"You trust me?"
"I don't have a better choice," Rosgell replied. "Besides, I believe you're destined to head to the Dark Continent. I can see it—you're not the kind of person who'll be content to stay confined to the human world."
Ron looked at the strange object in his hand. "You can tell just from this?"
Rosgell nodded. "Yes. Anyone who obtains that thing won't be satisfied staying on the human continent. Once you know there's a broader world out there, one where even greater heights are possible, you won't be able to resist."
"You're not like me. I had already lost the hope of ever climbing higher."
"But changing Mingbo… that was my lifelong dream."
He paused, then added, "I'll give you some bonus information."
"My strength during my lifetime wasn't just S-rank—it was above S-rank. Not simply stronger in terms of raw power, but different in essence."
"I coined that level as Sequence 1."
"Human beings have limits. The ceiling of life is right there. No matter how strong your body or spirit is, there's a cap."
"Only by stepping into the Sequence can you elevate your life tier and continue climbing."
"And the method to reach Sequence 1 is actually quite simple."
"First, become an S-rank Nen user."
"Then, acquire a Sealed Object that matches your attribute."
"Once the Sealed Object is absorbed, you enter Sequence 1."
"The object you saw in your divination—it was once my Sealed Object."
"Now that my corpse has fused with your Nen beast, the compatibility should align. Your beast should be able to use it."
"And because you already possess this Sealed Object, you could even trade it to another S-rank Nen user whose attribute fits. That would let you gain a Sequence 1 follower."
"With a Sequence 1 ally, your journey to the Dark Continent will go much more smoothly. You won't fall to contamination so easily."
At the mention of "contamination," Ron immediately thought of how his second grandfather, Maha Zoldyck, had once described the Dark Continent.
"Rosgell-senpai, could you tell me more about the Dark Continent?"
"Not now," Rosgell replied. "The Great Martial Trail has already begun. I'll give you the object now. Once the tournament is over and you've solved the situation, come back."
"Then, I'll tell you everything I know."
Ron nodded. "Alright."
He had originally come only for the item in Rosgell's possession—but what he had gained in addition was beyond expectation. Sequence 1. Sealed Objects. Dark Continent intelligence.
To Ron, these were priceless.
He truly felt that coming to Mingbo had been worthwhile.
Then he took out a card.
"Accompany—Alex."
In the next instant, a wave of aura enveloped Ron.
—Outside, at the Martial Arena.
The battle was about to begin.
On one side stood the team led by Chris.
On the other, the team led by Alex.
Chris glanced at the opposing team.
"That guy didn't show up. I suppose he had enough sense to stay away. Alex alone poses no threat to me."
Just then—
Whoomph!
The aura-wrapped form of Ron descended.
