On the twenty-third of the twelfth lunar month, the Stove God is worshiped, and on the twenty-fourth, dusting begins, symbolizing removing dust and filth to welcome in the gods and good fortune.

The people of Chengdu Prefecture call this day the "New Year's Eve Festival," and according to local customs, it is recorded: "On the twenty-fourth day of the twelfth lunar month, each household sweeps their dwellings, removes dust and filth, and prepares wine and fruits to worship the Stove God."

It's not just for cleanliness, but also signifies "out with the old and in with the new."

Even the broom used has a story.

The people of Chengdu use bamboo branches to make long brooms, called "New Year Broom," and after sweeping the house, they burn the broom and old objects in the stove, symbolizing "sending away poverty."
