Jiang Xiaobai sat there, staring at the campfire, lost in thought. He didn't know how long passed when suddenly a ground-shaking roar came from the north, the sound so powerful it shook the snow off the tree branches.
Jiang Xiaobai glanced up at the sky. The moon was high, marking the time when the beasts on the Ice Field from the Northern Regions emerged to hunt. The terrifying roar had come from the Ice Field.
"What's wrong?"
Ruo Li woke up and slowly opened her eyes.
"Did I disturb you?" Jiang Xiaobai said. "There's a large Ice Field north of the forest, home to many Fierce Beasts. They lie low during the day and come out deep into the night, returning to their lairs by dawn."
