The Sphinx shifted its massive body and lifted its paw to point toward the folding door behind it. At the end of that passage was a freight elevator.
"Ascend above, come to below, they are there, yet not there," said the Sphinx.
Bidding farewell to the riddle-loving big cat, Chen Ke arrived in front of the elevator and pressed the button to go up. There was a rumbling sound from inside the shaft as the car slowly ascended from below.
The doors opened, and Chen Ke stood outside, peering inside. He found that the elevator car was completely inverted, no wonder the Sphinx had said that to get below, one must go above.
He turned back to look at the Sphinx, only to find that it had turned into a mound of sand. Chen Ke wasn't worried about the elevator malfunctioning, and without a second thought, he stepped in and found the floor buttons on the right-hand side, slightly lower down.
