The black building was eerily quiet. Chen Ke pushed open the glass doors and entered the lobby where the grey tiled floor bore the foundation's emblem along with the full English spelling of H.C.P, which depicted a scene with seven eyes and a shield.
There were no signs of life inside the building. The reception desk was lined with six red old-fashioned telephones, with milky white CRT monitors arranged in a row, and a black wall clock hung on the side wall.
Everything here seemed peculiarly '80s, nothing like the distant future of 2137.
For a moment, Chen Ke felt as if he had returned to the West Gold Building, as if everything he had gone through on this journey had been a dream. It was as though he'd just gotten up from the ground, with the dagger that had been in his chest now lying on the floor, and all the mysteries still unresolved.
