CHAPTER START---
---Kyoto Jujutsu Tech Campus…
Sitting on a cushion beside a tea table, Principal Gakuganji enjoys his afternoon rice cakes and tea while reading a stack of mission reports. Ahead of him is a short slope, leading down to the grassy training field where Utahime and a few other teachers are overseeing training.
Nearly three dozen Kyoto Jujutsu Tech students are sparring, using only Cursed Energy Enhancement and Reinforcement, drilling their martial arts for hours on end without the aid of any Innate Techniques.
Principal Gakuganji glances at the field for a moment, noting a few students sporting cuts and bruises, as expected of their unarmed combat training. He sips his tea and looks over at his red and white electric guitar, resting in the open case beside him, then gets back to work.
He reads the mission report from Utahime, then looks to the field to find the relevant students. 'So they managed to defeat a Grade 2 Cursed Spirit without her aid. I should consider them for promotion, depending on how well they do in the Exchange Event. No, Semi Grade 2, that's as far as those two can get without an Innate Technique. But the girl may be a different story.'
He focuses on a petite blonde girl who is failing to stand her ground in close combat training. While everyone else was clearly trying to win their matches, she was more concerned with being evasive, avoiding all possible damage. And after her opponent, a slightly taller girl, launches a kick to her face, the blonde panics and raises both arms to avoid the strike, leaving her guy open for a flying knee that sends her rolling through the dirt.
'Momo Nishimiya,' Principal Gakuganji reads her file. 'Only half Japanese, but she has Cursed Energy. Tool Manipulation, an Innate Technique that allows her to control and use Cursed Tools she's familiar with from range as if she were making physical contact. It doesn't allow her to move them if that is not part of the item's function, but she can activate them.
Such an ability is unsuitable for a Grade 1, far too dependent on her equipment to be reliable and consistent. But at least Utahime has already taught her this. She's begun specialized training in recon and strategy, a woman who knows her place.' He then looks to the far side of the training field, where a lone First Year was fighting and holding his ground against two Second Year students.
'What a monster,' Principal Gakuganji thinks, a deep frown on his face as he finds the boy's updated file. 'As expected of someone scouted by that rowdy thing. Aoi Todo, already a Grade 2 upon entry to the school. His Innate Technique is Boogie Woogie…and the file is blank. Yuki really does go out of her way to make my life difficult.
But Utahime confirmed it allows him to swap places with anything that has Cursed Energy. But the range, functions, activation requirements, and other factors are unknown. Regardless of that, his physical abilities are already powerful. He's on track to be the next Nanami by the time he graduates.'
Principal Gakuganji's eyes widen before he schools his expression, glancing at the boy who appears to be in a state of primal fury. He sees Todo charge both his opponents, shoulder tackling one boy to the gut before leaping up with him and twisting their bodies into a grapple.
Todo then spins and tosses that body to the ground, cracking the dirt and kicking up some dust as the second boy rushes in with a kick, aiming to take advantage of Todo's lack of leverage in mid-air.
Todo responds by simply taking the hit to the forehead, using his neck strength to push back against the fist, sending the boy stumbling as Todo's feet touch the ground. He instantly drops into a striking stance and lands a solid uppercut to the stomach before leaping up and kicking the boy in the face.
The second year rolls through the dirt before coming to a stop on his hands and knees, throwing up his lunch in the grass while his friend charges back in against Todo.
'Hmm, he appears to be fighting like a wild animal, but every move is actually calculated. A dangerous opponent for anyone around his level,' Principal Gakuganji glances at Todo's file once more. 'His scores in everything are perfect, and his combat aptitude and understanding of Jujutsu are also vast. Jujutsu Tech could always use more people like him, a perfect specimen, but not so powerful he'd be impossible to control…'
Principal Gakuganji sets aside the file and finishes his rice cake before clapping his hands. Everyone on the field stops, taking a moment to breathe before calmly walking over to him, coming to a stop at the base of the hill below him. The man grabs his electric guitar and gets up, walking to the edge of the hill as the students stand in organized rows and columns, ordered by height so he could see their faces.
"A promising generation you are," he strums his guitar, activating his Innate Technique. The students don't react as the lone guitar produces a tune, but not the weak and metallic strum a powerless electric guitar should. Instead, the calming tune of an acoustic guitar permeates the field, reaching all of them with waves of Cursed Energy.
Principal Gakuganji's Innate Technique is Sound Amplifier. This allows him to use any musical instrument as a medium, carrying the effects via sound waves. Because of this, his Cursed Energy not only powers the electric guitar, but also acts as the amp to boost the volume.
Each instrument and style of music has a different effect, which can be mixed and matched to either optimize his efficiency or surprise those who know of his Innate Technique. In this case, rock ballads from electric guitars cause damage to anyone blasted by the Cursed Energy sound waves, doing severe damage to their internal organs and destroying their eardrums. However, as he strums the guitar, a gentle tune permeates the field, as if played by an acoustic guitar.
This is Principal Gakuganji's most valuable position, and a rare trait that no other Jujutsu Sorcerer has ever boasted. While Satoru Gojo can heal himself with the Reversed Curse Technique, and Hakari Kinji in Jackpot can surpass even him, neither can heal others with RCT.
Shoko Ieiri is invaluable to Jujutsu Society because of her natural aptitude to do this, and alongside Taiyo Daburu, can also heal poisons and infections because of their expertise. However, Taiyo Daburu has such a vast supply of Cursed Energy that he far outclasses her, in no small part due to her hand in guiding him.
In regard to healing the self, Jackpot Hakari is second to none. In regard to healing others, Taiyo Daburu is peerless, even compared to Satoru Gojo. But Principal Gakuganji is in a league of his own with absolutely no competition due to one simple fact.
As the inverted rock ballad sound waves of Cursed Energy reach everyone on the field, they all simultaneously heal, at range. Cut, bruises, and cracked bones, all damage is restored at a visible rate, slower than the other RCT monsters, but the fact that he can perform such a feat by evenly distributing his RCT to anyone within his range makes him second to none at healing groups of people mid-battle.
For this reason, along with his ability to manage and organize large groups and various teams, Principal Yoshinobu Gakuganji is considered an invaluable asset to Jujutsu Society and the higher-ups. Even the likes of Satoru Gojo, who are always at odds with the man, deep within themselves, know removing him would be a net negative in the war against Cursed Spirits.
"Once more," he says as he stops playing the tune, noticing that everyone is fully healed.
Utahime directs everyone to get some water before they switch sparring partners and prepare for the final round of training, and Principal Gakuganji returns to his tea and rice cakes. In moments like these, he can't help but compare his Cursed Energy reserves to those of the Special Grades.
While his reserves are the greatest among all current Grade 1 Jujutsu Sorcerers, even including the Clans, he pales in comparison to even Yuki Tsukumo or Suguru Geto.
'If I had the reserves of Taiyo Daburu, no, even the reserves of Satoru Gojo, which are pitiful in comparison to his, I could train these students all day,' he frowns at thought, wishing he could do more for these students before sending them into the dangerous life of a Jujutsu Sorcerer. 'I suppose they will have to make do with three rounds of combat training each day, at least until I get some backup from a RCT user…'
Minutes later, as if the heavens themselves heard his desires and answered in a sick and twisted way, Principal Gakuganji senses a Cursed Energy Signature enter campus, flaring up to make a boisterous entrance that has most students curious, while Todo smiles manically and fights with redoubled vigor.
He sighs and turns to look back at her, an obvious look of annoyance on his face. "What are you doing here?"
Yuki Tsukumo slings her leather jacket over her shoulder, looking out at Todo rather than Principal Gakuganji while approaching the tea table. "What, can't I come check in on my apprentice?"
"Tch, just don't spread your delinquent ways to any other students, it's already hard enough getting Todo to stop acting out…"
