Chapter 15 - Chapter 15: Promise that I'll always be anywhere you are

The house was almost completely empty. The vast rooms were dark and hollow, casting long, somber shadows across the hardwood floors. Anyone walking through the front doors would have assumed that a ghost inhabited the space rather than a living person.

Is he using this estate as a hiding place? Willy thought, his eyes sweeping over the barren hallway.

As if reading his thoughts with uncanny precision, Tim turned around with a quiet smile. "I only ever used the private office, sweetheart. I didn't need any of the other rooms, which is why everything looks so deserted."

Willy always felt as though Tim could read his mind perfectly.

Tim stepped closer, his dark eyes softening. "If you want us to live here, you can design and furnish the entire place to your own taste, my love."

Should we actually live here? Willy's mind spun with the possibility. Starting a new life together, far removed from everyone they knew, sounded peaceful, yet daunting. He didn't know a single soul in this coastal province. Making such a massive life choice wasn't going to be easy.

Willy cleared his throat softly. "I'll... I'll think about it, Tim."

Tim smiled warmly, reaching out to gently trace Willy's cheek. "If you want to rest, the master bedroom is upstairs. I'll prepare something for us to eat while you relax."

"Thank you, darling. I'll lay down for a bit," Willy admitted, feeling the heavy exhaustion of the past few days finally catching up to him.

Willy headed up the grand staircase while Tim made his way into the sleek kitchen. The refrigerator was fully stocked. Tim's private assistant had ensured every detail was taken care of in advance. Tim immediately began prepping a hot meal with quiet, effortless efficiency.

Upstairs, Willy walked down the quiet second-floor corridor, suddenly realizing he hadn't asked for directions. "Tim forgot to tell me which door leads to the bedroom," he muttered to himself.

He opened the first door on his left. The room was completely bare. Closing it softly, he moved down to the next one. Opening the second door revealed Tim's private office. Unlike the rest of the hollow house, this room was filled with floor-to-ceiling bookshelves, stacks of confidential documents, and organized legal files.

Willy was about to step back and close the door when something caught his attention.

Sitting alone in the center of the dark mahogany desk was a single silver frame. Driven by innocent curiosity, Willy stepped inside for a closer look. It was the only framed photograph in the entire residence, and he wondered why Tim kept it so prominently placed.

It was a family portrait. The photo captured Tim's parents, a young, smiling Tim, and another young boy who was laughing brightly into the camera.

Willy's breath caught in his throat. Who is this boy? Tim explicitly told me he was an only child. Is this his brother? But why on earth would he hide that from me?

Panicking slightly, Willy backed out of the office and shut the door firmly behind him. A heavy wave of guilt washed over him for invading Tim's privacy. He knew he would have to ask Tim about it eventually. Unable to rest now, he slipped into the master bedroom at the end of the hall and lay down on the edge of the bed, his mind racing.

A short while later, Tim finished in the kitchen and walked softly into the bedroom. "The food is ready, handsome."

Willy sat up immediately. "Okay, let's go down."

Tim caught the troubled shift in Willy's expression instantly. He stepped into his path, his brows knitting together. "What happened, Willy? You look shaken."

Willy lowered his gaze, his face burning with embarrassment. "When I was looking for the bedroom earlier... I accidentally walked into your office."

Tim's frame went completely still. "Did you see the photograph on the desk?"

Willy nodded slowly, feeling terrible. "I'm so sorry, Tim. I shouldn't have gone in without asking you first."

Tim let out a slow, heavy breath, his eyes softening with reassuring warmth. "The boy in the photo is my brother."

I was right, Willy thought silently.

"I didn't lie to you, Willy," Tim whispered softly, his voice dropping into a tender register. "I am their only child now. Let's get some food for you, and we can talk."

They descended the stairs in a quiet, solemn atmosphere. Tim had arranged a beautiful spread on the dining table.

Trying to lift the heavy mood, Willy forced a small smile. "Did you secretly work as a professional chef before this?"

Tim let out a quiet chuckle, setting down two glasses of water. "No, darling. But when you live completely on your own, you quickly learn to master everything yourself."

Willy felt an ache in his chest. Despite coming from immense wealth and having living parents, Tim had spent years living in absolute isolation inside this empty mansion.

Willy stared down at his plate, his curiosity getting the better of his caution. "Do you... do you have a strained relationship with your brother as well?"

Tim froze completely. The color drained from his face so fast that he looked physically ill. His breath hitched, his dark eyes staring blankly at the table as if trapped in a sudden, violent memory.

Willy dropped his fork in sheer panic, sliding out of his chair. "Tim! Tim, look at me! Are you okay?"

It took several terrifying seconds before Tim could speak, his voice a barely audible, raspy whisper. "No... I don't have a bad relationship with him. He was... he was my absolute best friend in this world."

His best friend? Then what happened to tear everything apart? Willy thought, his heart pounding against his ribs. "Why isn't he your best friend anymore, Tim?"

Tim swallowed hard, forcing the words through his tight throat. "He passed away... ten years ago. After that happened, my family relocated here. And my relationship with my parents broke down completely."

A suffocating wave of sorrow crashed through Willy. "Oh God, Tim... I am so sorry. I should never have brought this up."

Willy rounded the table, pulling Tim's head against his chest and wrapping his arms tightly around his shoulders. He could never have anticipated such a devastating tragedy hiding behind Tim's cold exterior. The guilt of pushing the subject crushed him. "I am so, so sorry, my love."

Tim wrapped his arms fiercely around Willy's waist, burying his face directly into Willy's shirt, clinging to him as if he were his only anchor in a stormy sea. "It's okay, sweetheart... It's been a long time. I've forced myself to get used to the fact that he'll never stand by my side again."

Tim held him tighter, seeking the comfort he had been denied for a decade. Willy gently stroked the back of Tim's hair, resting his chin atop his head.

"It must have been so unbearable for you to carry all of that pain alone for so long," Willy murmured tenderly. "But I'm right here with you now. Whenever you want to talk about him, I will always be here to listen."

Tim pulled back slightly, looking up into Willy's eyes with a tearful, profoundly grateful smile. "Thank you, Willy. Just having you stand beside me makes me feel alive again."

Willy smiled softly, leaning down to press a lingering kiss against Tim's forehead. Willy had an innate ability to pull Tim out of his darkest thoughts.

Tim cleared his throat, making a deliberate effort to shift the heavy atmosphere. "Why don't we take our food down to the shore and watch the sunset?"

Willy glanced out the grand window. "It's still a little early for the sunset, isn't it?"

"Then let's pack a proper picnic basket," Tim suggested, a rare, genuine spark returning to his dark eyes.

Willy wanted nothing more than to see Tim happy again. "Will you make those grilled sandwiches you made for me at the apartment? They were incredible."

Tim's smile widened, his usual arrogant warmth returning. "I'll make you anything your heart desires, my love."

Willy helped Tim clear the table and pack the fresh sandwiches, fruits, and drinks into a wicker picnic basket. As they reached the front entrance, Tim paused with his hand on the door handle.

"Are we forgetting anything, sweetheart?"

Willy looked down at the polished platinum band on his ring finger, a breathtaking smile lighting up his features. "I think we have everything we could possibly need."

"Then let me take you down," Tim smiled softly.

Down on the private shore, the sky was painting itself in brilliant shades of amber, violet, and gold. The gentle tide lapped softly against the sand, and the sun began its slow descent toward the horizon. The peaceful seclusion, the breathtaking view, and the person he loved right beside him Willy realized there was truly nothing more he could ever ask for.

They sat side by side on a plush blanket, taking in the quiet beauty of the evening.

Willy rested his head comfortably against Tim's shoulder. "I'm already falling in love with this place."

Tim rested his chin atop Willy's soft hair. "We can come here whenever you want, darling. I'll take you anywhere in the world you wish to go."

Willy looked out over the sparkling water. "But you don't love this place, do you?"

Tim reached down, tightly interlocking his fingers with Willy's. "I promise you that I will be happy anywhere you are, Willy. I am complete when I'm with you, it doesn't matter where we are on the map."

Willy's cheeks flushed a deep crimson. Tim had an effortless way of making him feel like the center of the universe.

Tim leaned in close, capturing Willy's lips in a slow, deep, passionate kiss. "I love you so much. I have never loved another soul like this in my entire life."

Willy blushed furiously, playfully turning his head away. "You don't need to say it a hundred times a day, Tim!"

"I want to remind you every single day for the rest of our lives how deeply I love you," Tim insisted with an affectionate grin.

Ever since they had met, Tim declared his love multiple times a day. Willy would never admit it out loud, but hearing those words filled his heart with an indescribable joy. He had never loved anyone this intensely either.

As the dusk air turned crisp, a soft shiver ran through Willy's frame. "Should we head back inside, my love? We have to visit your grandparents tomorrow morning."

Tim stood up smoothly, pulling Willy up into his arms. "Let's go. You've had an exhausting day, clever boy."

Despite the early hour, the emotional weight of the day caught up with Willy the moment his head hit the pillow. Within minutes, he fell into a deep, peaceful sleep. Tim carefully pulled the heavy duvet over Willy's shoulders, pressed a soft kiss to his temple, and slipped out of the room without making a sound.

He walked quietly down the dark, carpeted hallway and entered his private office. He hadn't spent time here in months, yet everything remained untouched.

Sitting in the leather armchair beneath the dim glow of a single desk lamp, Tim picked up the silver frame and stared at his brother's face.

"Brother..." Tim whispered into the silent room, a single tear escaping his eye and tracing down his cheek. "I miss you every single day. But please don't worry about me anymore... I'm truly happy now. I found the person I want to spend the rest of my life with. One day very soon, I'll bring him to meet you. Don't worry, my brother... I have one final task to finish, and then I will be completely free from this nightmare. I hate keeping things from him, but I have no choice. The less he knows right now, the safer he will be. I failed to protect you back then... but I will protect him with my life. I know I should have waited until all of this was over before tying his life to mine, but I physically cannot survive a single day without him. I love him so much. If you were here, I know you two would have been best friends. You share the exact same passions. Don't worry about Grandma and Grandpa either. I'm taking good care of them. I know you'd probably scold me for cutting ties with our parents, but I cannot face them. Maybe one day I'll find it in me to forgive them for what they did... but not yet. I know you understand."

He sat in the quiet glow for a long time, holding the memory close. Finally, he carefully set the silver frame back in its place, turned off the lamp, and returned to the master bedroom. He slipped beneath the sheets beside Willy with extreme care, making sure not to disturb his sleep.

Because of you, I can finally sleep without fear, Tim thought, pulling Willy's warm body securely against his chest. Thank you for giving me my life back, my love.

Tim closed his eyes, falling asleep within moments. For ten long years, looking at his brother's photograph would trigger violent, agonizing nightmares that kept him awake until dawn. But now, with Willy resting safely in his arms, his mind was entirely at peace.

For a decade, he had avoided looking at that photograph, terrified of the memories. Because instead of recalling their happy childhood, his mind would instantly force him back to the horrific day he wished he could erase from existence.

Ten Years Ago

A nine-year-old Tim had burst through the grand estate doors, his face glowing with pure pride as he ran through the marble hallway as fast as his legs could carry him.

"Brother! Brother, where are you? Look, I'm back!" he shouted excitedly, his voice echoing off the tall ceilings. He had just taken first place in a prestigious junior championship, and his older brother was the only person he wanted to show his golden trophy to.

He sprinted up the grand staircase and down the long corridor. When no answer came, Tim smiled playfully, throwing open his brother's bedroom door.

"Look what I won today"

The words died in his throat. The heavy gold trophy slipped from his numb fingers, crashing onto the hardwood floor with a deafening clang.

The young boy completely lost his ability to speak or scream. The sheer, incomprehensible shock paralyzed his entire body. He couldn't cry; he couldn't move. The only thought repeating in his shattered mind was: No. Impossible. This isn't happening.

How could a child process such horror? In a single, fraction of a second, he had lost his idol, his protector, and his absolute best friend in the world. He just stood there in the doorway, entirely helpless, knowing with terrifying clarity that no matter what he did, his brother was gone forever.

Later that agonizing night, weeping in the dark, the young boy made a fierce, solemn vow to the stars.

"I love you... don't worry about me, brother. I promise I will fulfill every single dream you had to leave behind. I will protect our family. I promise I will do whatever it takes to make them pay for what they did to you."

From that devastating day forward, Tim's world shattered and shifted. The bright, cheerful, affectionate boy vanished, replaced by a cold, calculating, and unyielding prodigy who built impenetrable walls around his heart.

He could never have imagined that morning that his entire life would be torn apart before sunset. From that day on, nothing but shadow, guilt, and vengeance filled his existence until the day he met Willy. Willy had broken through every single wall, bringing light into his darkness, and beautifully changing his destiny forever.
