Only something like a Shiny Rayquaza could truly make him eager to catch it!
Fighting Rayquaza earlier, even defeating it without catching it, aside from conveniently comparing stats when entering a second time, was really just John testing Rayquaza's strength.
If he found one, then for the upcoming Eight Masters tournament and World Pokemon Championship, he'd let the world see a Shiny Rayquaza too.
See if he could clear the tournament using only Dragon Dance.
If he didn't find one, that wasn't a big deal either. He'd become the world's strongest trainer before turning thirty, so he'd have plenty of time afterward to slowly farm for a Shiny Rayquaza.
On the other hand, he could develop this strategy further. If Rayquaza could be farmed, what about Groudon and Kyogre?
John began repeatedly entering and exiting the dungeon.
He wasn't discouraged. Shiny Rayquaza wasn't that easy to find.
However, John became increasingly certain that each Rayquaza he encountered was different. Because occasionally he'd see abnormally huge or abnormally small Rayquazas.
"Garde~" Gardevoir came to call John downstairs for a late-night snack.
Downstairs at the dining table, sure enough, Blaziken, Togepi, Jirachi, Mew, and Delibird were all happily slurping down wonton noodles.
Seeing John come downstairs, they all called out in greeting.
"Briii briii!" Togepi sat on the table waving its little hand at John. Next to it, Delibird was feeding it wonton noodles.
"Mew! Mew!!" Mew circled around John, flying loops.
"Jirachi~~" Jirachi directly used psychic power to float a large bowl full of wonton noodles and chopsticks over to John.
"Thanks! Everyone eat up~" John patted each of the little cuties in turn, took the bowl and chopsticks, and sat down at the table.
He had to admit, watching these adorable little guys while eating a late-night snack was truly one of life's great pleasures.
Looking at Togepi sitting in front of him, John suddenly remembered something.
"Togepi, can I borrow your luck?" John extended his hand toward Togepi.
"Toge~Piii!" Togepi grabbed John's hand and dove into his chest, turning around to sit leaning against him, just like back when they were in the small dorm at Riverstone University.
"Almost forgot, you're also a Wish Pokemon, aren't you?" John said with a smile.
In an instant, John had Jirachi floating above his head, Togepi leaning against his chest, Mew perched on his shoulder, and Blaziken hugging his leg. The scene was somewhat comical.
"Kekekeke!"
John followed the direction of Marshadow's jump and looked over. He saw its chubby little hand dragging out a small Pokemon formed from gray shadowy mist, not letting it escape.
But John's Gengar wasn't about to let this Marshadow get away either. It directly MEGA evolved, its ability changing to Shadow Tag, firmly trapping the wild Marshadow in place.
John set the little cuties on the table, then walked over to stand before the wild Marshadow.
"You finally showed up, Marshadow!"
"Of course," John said with a smile. "You're Ho-Oh's examiner, right? You like hiding in shadows to secretly observe rainbow heroes."
As he spoke, he pulled out the Rainbow Wing through his Gameboy, removing it from Ho-Oh's body, and gently waved it in his hand.
Marshadow's eyes went wide seeing this. It unconsciously took a step back.
'Are you serious with that backing-up move? Such a tiny action, yet it does so much damage.'
So John directly pulled out a Luxury Ball.
At the same time, Gardevoir, Greninja, Lucario using Extreme Speed, Garchomp, and a bunch of other Pokemon had already surrounded Marshadow. Even the dishwashing Machamp in the kitchen came out carrying a pot.
'What do you want to do?' Sensing the aura of all these Pokemon around it, Marshadow started panicking.
"Nothing much, really. Just want to catch you, that's all."
'I act under Ho-Oh's authority!'
"Doesn't matter. Even if it's Ho-Oh itself, I'm planning to catch it too!"
John suddenly felt like he'd become some kind of villain...
