The sound of glass crunching underneath a boot echoed in a dark and empty alley. Naruto walked with slow and calculated footsteps. After spending the last three hours looking for clues his investigation had led him here.
Looking at the cracked walls and shattered glasses around him it really did look like and earthquake struck this place.
Whatever happened here definitely wasn't small. He continued to walk through the wreckage, looking for anything that looked even the slightest bit out of place. Ironically they found him first.
It happened in an alley behind a fish-storage market. A guttural roar cracked the brickwork.
Naruto recognized the sound instantly. A demon. The kind that had just entered the human world and wasn't yet good at acting normal.
He turned the corner. And there it stood.
A creature crouched like a broken throne with claws, skin black like burned scripture, scarlet lines running across its muscles not like natural veins but something etched, deliberate, pulsating . Its breathing fogged the air with heated distortion. Each inhale bent sound slightly inward. Each exhale made the walls flinch away from existence.
A Lesser Demon. A msira demon
It grinned when it saw him. Like a starving animal that had finally seen it's next prey. Unfortunately for it the roles were actually reversed.
"Well, well, what do we have here? Aren't you a lucky one" Naruto tilted his head.
The demon snarled. Then it lunged with a claw swipe
"Here it comes"
Naruto moved with minimalistic efficiency. He sidestepped the strike perfectly, hand sliding into his coat as claws ripped a crater into the pavement, spiderweb fractures exploding outward like a localized tectonic event that claimed innocence by proximity.
Naruto whistled low. Lesser demon or not, no human could withstand that attack. One swipe and they are as good as dead.
It slashed again.
Naruto ducked. The arc of the claws sliced through stone and steel shelves behind him, shearing through infrastructure cleanly enough to imply it could have cut a bridge if the demon had aimed for urban planning.
Naruto's hand closed into a fist smashing into face of the demon faster than it could react. The demon went flying like a missile crashing into the wall at the end of the alley kicking up dust.
"Did that do it?" Naruto raised an eyebrow but a roar soon answered him. "Thought so"
The demon charged at him once again closing the distance between them in the blink of an eye. The claw of the demon slowly enlarged in Naruto's eyes but he didn't flinch, instead he smirked.
Just as the claw was about to hit him, a sharp sound echoed in the alley and a blade fell from the sky and stabbed the demon into the ground, forming a crater and kicking up a gust of wind.
Naruto looking at the sword giving off a faint demonic aura, Then at the demon slowing turning to dust on the ground. He reached for purgatory and pulled it out before strapping it to his back.
Faint demon ash drifted around him like shredded paperwork.
"Show off" Kurama muttered causing Naruto to smirk. He believed what he just did was called aura farming. He saw the term in a novel he read online.
It seemed that Susan's report was accurate. There really are demons on this island. If demons were here then there must be a master mind behind it. Most likely the person behind Damien.
Kurama added quietly, "I can already tell that this trip wasn't waste of time"
Naruto took a step forward only to immediately jump back as four shadows crashed in front of him. Four Msira demons that looked like the last one appeared before him letting out a vicious roar.
"I didn't realized he had friends" Naruto chuckled. The demons didn't linger around and immediately charged at him like a pack of hyenas.
Naruto didn't bother wasting words with them. Purgatory flew into his waiting palm. He swung it around in a wide circle sending the demons that were planning to encircle him stumbling backwards.
He reached for limbo with his free hand and charged at a demon that was still recovering and hit it with an upward slash sending it airborne and hit it with a roundhouse kick.
He turned around and blocked a claw from another demon with purgatory. A headshot from limbo and the demon received a one way ticket back to hell.
Naruto charged at the demons like a freak train. Gunshots echoed in the alley accompanied by bright flashes of light.
A few minutes later Naruto walked out of the alley way as if nothing happened. Leaving the rapidly decomposing bodies of three demons behind.
Naruto continued his walk like nothing ever happened. Even if people saw the craters and sword mark on the ground, they would assume that it was done by the earthquake.
Fortunately he had converted his gun to use chakra instead of bullets which save him a lot of headaches. No evidence of having to clean up the crime scene Every time he fought demons.
"Well that confirms it. This island is haunted" Kurama said. He had been quiet during the whole battle. Watching Naruto fight lesser demons wasn't s entertaining as it used to be.
"What gave it away? Is it the empty streets or the dark atmosphere?" Naruto asked sarcastically.
"What your tone otherwise I will make life a living hell for you" Kurama scoffed.
"Please don't do that again" Naruto groaned. He had offended Kurama one time and he took it personal. One night when Naruto was sleeping he took over his body and dropped him on a public sidewalk in nothing but his underwear.
He had trended on the Internet for half year. That was a nightmare.
"Then you better start respecting me"
"Aye aye, captain fur ball"
