Kana Ardan came to the workshop at the eighth hour without waiting to be summoned, which told Vell she had heard about the bolt. She stood inside the door with her spear cased, letting Wren cross the room to smell her first.
The two of them share a surname and the yard it was taught in, which nobody in that workshop needed explaining. Vell has not used her first name in front of Blackforge staff since a hearing room, and she stopped expecting it.
"I did not fire it," she said.
"Everybody says that," Yenna answered from the bench, "and the ones who did say it faster."
Kana put a folded packet on the workbench rather than arguing with her. It held four days of Directorate access logs, stamped by a facility she had no reason to want anybody in this room looking at.
