Luna had the registry open before Vell asked her for anything, because she had been listening to a relay feed for six minutes. A missing-hunter file carries a core signature, and there are eleven of them logged in Orison across the last two years.
"Nineteen months," she said through the relay, loud on the ring speaker because nobody had closed the channel, "one file matches at nineteen months, and his name is Jon Kessel."
The name went out across four relay houses on an open channel. Nobody at the commentary box had the presence of mind to cut it, which turned out to be the most useful failure of the afternoon.
"Say the rest of the file," Vell said.
"Grade Two, twenty-six years old, reported missing from a Directorate contract survey in the eastern flats," Luna answered, "and the Association closed the file at eleven weeks because the sponsor confirmed a death."
