Chapter 15 - First Blood

In a clearing made out of several broken trees stained with splashes of blood, stood three beings.

One was a Heric Boar, a creature known for its speed and power, but otherwise easy to deal with so long as you could dodge it. But this one was different. It was mutated. This mutation made it twice as big compared to normal Heric Boar's, which just made it harder to dodge. But what made this one so special, was the fact that it could use Wind Qi to charge even faster and even create some basic wind blades to attack.

As for its original opponent, flapping its wings in the air was an equally mutated large Black Eagle. It had a glossier sheen across its feather, whether that be because of the blood that stained it, or the natural texture of the feathers. Either way, it hung high in the air with a scornful gaze towards the boar for encroaching upon its domain. For it too possessed Wind Qi, though to a much lesser degree than the boar.

Still, because it was an avian creature, it was more than capable of fending the boar off. It had tried escaping earlier, but upon seeing that it couldn't run away again in the face of a superior opponent. That's what it had done several times already against this same opponent some days ago, but this time, it could keep up, so it could no longer run.

The two of them fought for roughly an hour, creating a stalemate and this clearing. And they would've continued attacking one another if not for the overwhelming sense of dread and pure bloodlust that suddenly sprouted out of nowhere.

And the source of this feeling was of course Yin Lian, who was unable to contain her desires.

Now, the three of them were eyeing each other up, trying to figure out the best course of action. The Boar and the Falcon weren't going to team up just like that, but they could tell that defeating the intruding human would be difficult in their current state, let alone trying to fight two enemies at once.

As for Yin Lian's thoughts on the situation, well, she was just happy to finally have something to fight, regardless of how strong they might be. She didn't know if she was stronger or weaker than either of the beasts before her, she was just too blinded by her desire to kill to even know what she was doing.

For a while, they all just stayed where they were, with the two beasts eying their two potential prey with caution due to the sudden development, and Yin Lian eying the both of them not as enemies, but as lambs for the start of her slaughter.

Suddenly the Eagle made a move and dove towards the Boar with breakneck speeds, but the Boar dodged it in the nick of time by jumping to the side. Only to be met with Yin Lian appearing out of nowhere with her Satanre unsheathed and raised above her head, prepared to slash down.

Once more, the Boar dodged by jumping to the side, assisted by the power of wind as Yin Lian slashed diagonally with [Essence Slash], creating a crescent slash of pure energy, which was aimed towards the Eagle that was behind the Boars bulky figure.

Much like the Boar, the Eagle jumped out of the way aided by its wind Qi. And through this momentary exchange, both the Boar and the Eagle could tell that the human was more than capable of fighting both of them at the same time.

More than that, they could tell that fighting her would be futile, so the best they could do was run away and leave the other to fight her. But neither of them were going to just sacrifice themselves, of course not. All they could do was try and get the human to go after the other first and run away before they were caught.

And to do that, they had to debilitate the other and make the human concentrate on them. Which was easier said than done.

Seconds had passed by as none of them did anything, merely assessing the situation, the Boar and the Eagle trying to figure out how best to escape. All the while Yin Lian was revelling in her first actual combat exchange.

She was smiling deeply, her grin manic and deranged in appearance, wildly contrasting to the cuteness of her face which was still that of a child's.

Seeing that neither of the two were going to move, Yin Lian opted to make the next move and charged out towards the Boar since it would be easier for her to target.

The moment she did so, the Eagle made its move and sent out a sharp gust of wind towards the Boar to hold it in place, even for a second.

And it worked exactly as the Eagle had hoped, as its attack reached the Boar first, forcing it to stand still defensively to block the attack. But that just made it more vulnerable to Yin Lian's next attack.

Which she took full advantage of and raised her blade high up into the air and brought it down on the Boar with another [Essence Slash] imposed over her sword.

The blade fell and clashed with the same defensive technique as before, but it was pushed slightly, making it stumble and causing its defensive technique to break.

Yin Lian's [Essence Slash] had been spent breaking the Boars defence, but her blade still came down upon it, ripping through its thick hide and carving out a nasty gash in its flesh.

"RRRRAAAAAAAGGGGHHHHH!!!!!" The Boar screamed out loud in pain, causing Yin Lian to retreat and cover her ears.

"AAAAGGGHHHH!!!" Yin Lian screamed in unison, though she wasn't nearly as loud as the Boar, who was infusing its unholy scream with Wind Qi.

The Eagle tried to use this chance to escape but didn't make it far as the Boars scream distorted all the wind in the clearing. Still, it managed to make some distance and reach the edge of the clearing.

It was almost out of the way and able to escape and hide, letting the Boar and the human go, but the Boar stopped screamed just as it reached the edge.

When it turned back to look, it saw the Boar staring back at it. The Eagle reluctantly prepared to fight once more.

And it was a good thing too as both Yin Lian and the Boar were charging at it and sending their attacks at it.

The Boar obviously wanted to use this as a chance to divert attention away from it so that it could run away. Meanwhile Yin Lian didn't want either of them to leave as she wanted to have more fun killing.

Flapping its wings, the Eagle shot up into the sky, but Yin Lian nor the boar were going to let it gain more chances to escape, and they each sent out their own attack at it.

The Boar sent out a clawed slash of Wind Qi while Yin Lian sent out an [Essence Slash], both directly upwards towards the Eagle and then swinging down at each other in the meantime.

The Boar's claws met the Yin Lian's Mythril blade, and for a moment, they seemed evenly matched.

That was until the Boar's claws were sliced of cleanly, the blade even grazing its fur. The blade didn't cut into flesh as the Boar unleashed a burst of air energy, pushing Yin Lian back a couple meters, nearly knocking her off her feet.

She stumbled as she regained balance and her thinking capacity. Her bloodlust had been somewhat sated with that last clash, allowing her to observe the current state of the three-way battle more clearly. She herself was feeling perfectly fine, great even. But the Boar was now somewhat apprehensive after its claws were removed.

As for the Eagle, it seemed to have more fight in it, or more accurately, more energy for fleeing, which it looked like it was preparing to do.

At this point, Yin Lian could see that if she continued to fight the bird, she would be in a losing position since it could fly while she could not. A More than obvious conclusion, but she wanted to see if she could take both these creatures down.

It was clear though, that that wasn't going to happen with the way things were going. Either she would tire herself out trying to kill.

With that in mind, she decided to focus purely on the Boar and forgo attacking the Eagle.

"HHHYAAAAHHH!!!" She suddenly lunged at the Boar with a loud cry, momentarily catching both creatures off guard.

But seeing what the human was doing, the Eagle took this chance and began fleeing.

The Boar on the other hand was less than amused at this turn of events and tried to deflect Yin Lian's blade.

Unfortunately for the Boar however, it tried to use the same claws that were just cut out of instinct, resulting it its fur being sliced through as the blade cut deep into its flesh, and drawing blood.
