When most people had left, Senator Cleveland called Lance and Tom to his reception room.
The study was a very special place; Lance hadn't shown anything that made Senator Cleveland take him seriously and consider him an equal, so he was unlikely to enter the study.
The reception room wasn't bad either, with several sofas and a small bar, the environment was very nice.
"You heard what we said just now; I have a few things I need to explain to you."
Senator Cleveland pulled out a cigarette, and Tom immediately lit it for him with his silver lighter. He took a drag and slowly exhaled, "The war is Congress's will. To advance this goal, anyone or anything trying to stop the war will be crushed."
Lance nodded, understanding that what he meant was to assure Lance to proceed boldly, as Congress would back him up.
But such assurances could only be believed about... ten percent; any more would be folly.
