Arthur was feeling frustrated these past few days.
He had broken up with Corinda—a peaceful breakup. Although James and his father had both warned him not to get involved with that girl, young people are always drawn to something new.
He had many girlfriends.
For example, his female classmates.
Sometimes he couldn't even tell who was enjoying the relationship during its duration. He always felt that those female classmates were "playing" him, rather than him leading the relationship.
Too enthusiastic!
At first, it might seem interesting, but soon the hypocrisy hidden behind that enthusiasm, along with the longing for family social status elevation, just made him feel weary.
Later, he became interested in the housemaid, but unfortunately, there was no defiance, rebellion, or surrender he had idealized; everything was just ordinary.
Sometimes it felt like the maid was just going through the motions, rather than wanting any emotional engagement with him.
