When Sohwa pouted and muttered that no one back in Hwacheon would ever stoop to something like this, Hwayeong reached out and patted her shoulder gently.
“Well, Seonhwa still trusted me to the end, didn’t she? That’s what matters. It’s rare to have a friend like that... and someone like you worrying over me too.”
“Milady, please take this seriously. If His Highness hadn’t stepped in today, who knows what might’ve happened? No, if you’d returned to your quarters on time last night, things could’ve gone terribly wrong.”
“If I’d come back on time, I’d have been sitting in my room doing nothing. They wouldn’t have been able to plant it there in the first place.”
“They could’ve snuck in while you stepped out for a bit. Or maybe you happened to visit Lady Seonhwa’s quarters at that exact moment. Inside the consorts’ quarters, that’s the only place you go.”
When Sohwa pointed out that Hwayeong wasn’t exactly one to stay put in her room, Hwayeong tilted her head, conceding the point.
