Chapter 183 - Returning to Veldari

After leaving Csilla, Daimon arrived back on Veldari after a few days of travel. As soon as he landed at his palace, he was given a report which Cortana read out loud, detailing the Republic-Sith war, the Grand Chancellor's decision to send Ascendants to the Varraxian Technocracy, and the update of the ongoing search for the Son.

The report about the Republic-Sith war went over all the major battles that happened and which side had won alongside the committed forces the two sides. The report had a very accurate number for each side as Imperial Intelligence Directorate was extremely good at what they do. They agents embedded into every aspect of not just the Republic but the Sith Empire as well.

On top of this, the Imperium's ability to gather intelligence and conduct counterintelligence was the best in the galaxy. This was because of the Intelligence Directorate's use of Balance Keepers.

The Balance Keepers were embedded into every possible aspect of the Imperium which made things 10x better. The Force could do things that no normal Gen'Dai could do and would provide answers to things thought to be unsolvable.

For the Intelligence Directorate, they would send Balance Keepers undercover to a sector and have them establish a spy network over that sector. This saw Republic citizens recruited as Imperial spies and provided valuable information to the Imperium.

For the Sith it was different. The Intelligence Directorate had to take a different approach with them, then they did for the Republic. Instead of Balance Keepers or normal intelligence agents, the Imperium used people who were fed up with the Sith Empire to gather intel. In exchange, these people were often granted large sums of money or promises of being able to flee to the Imperium after a decade of spying.

This worked as each decade, a new person would become the spy and the old person would just be counted as a loss which wasn't unusual for the Sith. In fact, the Imperium had a small growing Mandalorian population in the Northern territories.

The report also had information on how the Volunteer Corps was doing and what were some requests that they had for improvements to their fighting ability. Some of the top requests were for the Imperial planetary shield to stop the Sith from wiping out the surface of planets; the next was to get more rapid medical response once a planet was secured; and the third was just a request for more heavy armor.

Daimon approved all of the requests and left it up to the Ministry of War to handle all of the logistics and other stuff.

The report about the Varraxian Technocracy informed him about the Chancellor's decision to send 10 million Ascendants to support them in their war with the Ssi-ruu. The war for them was not going well.

Before the war started, the Varraxian's tried to uplift the Ssi-ruu as an experiment to see how their species would develop. Things were going well at first with a few hiccups here and there, but after the Ssi-ruu became developed, they decided to turn on the Varraxian's.

This resulted in the Ssi-ruu enslaving the Varraxian's on their homeplanet, which resulted in the Varraxian's sending their military to take control of the planet.

But the Ssi-ruu proved that they were excellent war fighters and had decimated the Varraxian's invasion force. At the same time, they managed to steal plans and reverse engineer Varraxian technology to build their own ships.

With that, just in a few decades they took the fight to the Varraxian Technocracy and started a brutal invasion. They enslaved everybody on each planet they conquered and continued to reverse engineer Varraxian technology which boosted their own development.

The Varraxian Technocracy, for all its advanced technology and clever science, was never designed for a protracted ground war. This was one of the main reasons why they were losing, with another being how demilitarized they were as a society.

So far, the Varraxian's had managed to keep them out of their core territories, but it was only a matter of time until the Ssi-ruu broke through. But give it a few more weeks and the 10 million Ascendants would start to turn the tide.

The last report was about the Son. The Imperial Intelligence Directorate, Imperial probes, and the Balance Keepers were searching for signs of the Son within the Unknown Regions. So far, they had little luck as the Son was hiding extremely well.

They couldn't find any signs of the Killiks anywhere or sense the immense force energy that the Son had.

Daimon was exactly happy to read the small report that he had, but he also understood that somebody like the Son wasn't just a small threat. He was a Celestial and had immense Force powers, some of which Daimon probably didn't know about.

On top of that, the Son was also smart, and Daimon figured that he knew how to hide from them through past observation on Mortis.

Once Cortana finished, they were about to walk into his office, when he saw his son Prince Malrik walking down the hall with his wife Princess Seraphine and their children.

"Grandpa!" called out a Xerrin and Sorrin as they ran up and hugged Daimon. Despite both of them being almost 1000 years old, they still practically jumped on him every time they saw him.

Daimon hugged them back while looking at his son and daughter-in-law. "I didn't know you were back on Veldari yet," he said.

Malrik walked closer with Seraphine holding his arm. "We just got back from Rylothis after not going there for centuries because Seraphine wanted to see how here people was doing."

"And how was that?" Daimon asked. He knew that the people hadn't seen the princess for hundreds of years, but he knew that she was part of the Kingdom's history so many probably knew of her.

"Well….we did do a little subversion, by broadcasting the Princess's return throughout the Kingdom. So, when we arrived on Rylothis, there were millions of people waiting on us which the reigning noble family didn't like. They had to deploy a large number of police and military forces to contain the crowd. At the same time Seraphine made a speech and introduced Xerrin, Sorrin, and Isara as her children. The people were very excited to see their Princess who is the only living member from the era before all of the rebellions and internal strife." After hundreds of years Malrik expected that her popularity would be gone because she fled the Kingdom.

But it turns out that all of the internal strife and wars have caused the people to reminisce about the era before all of the wars and internal division between the nobles.

Hearing about the subversion part, Daimon shook his head just imagining Malrik calling in a favor from the Intelligence Directorate just to manipulate the media of an entire foreign empire.

"After that, we met with the reigning King who was not exactly happy to see Princess Seraphine, but I could also sense that his fear for offending me prevented him from saying what he wanted to out loud."

"That's good." Daimon said. If it wasn't to repsect the wishes of Princess Seraphine, he would have already invaded and taken over the Kingdom. But he respected his daughter-in-law and didn't want to do anything to hurt his relationship with his son.

Xerrin and Sorrin had already backed off and were just listening to the conversation. Isara had gone in for a hug, which Daimon returned while they continued their conversation.

"I know you don't want to be involved, But I really think you would be the one to bring peace to your people and stop all of the internal strife." Daimon said. He may respect her wishes, but that wouldn't stop him from trying to see if she would change her mind or not.

"I have thought about it more recently, but I still don't want to get involved." replied Seraphine. But in her mind, she was having some doubts after seeing how the people lived compared to when her father was alive.

"Okay, but if you change your mind, just know that I am here for you." Daimon said.

"Thank you." she said.

Isara stepped back. "What are you about to do now?" he asked looking at Malrik.

"I wanted to bring everyone home for a few days before we head back to Kashyyyk."

"That's nice. I might go back to Kashyyyk one of these days to see the wookies." It had been some centuries since he went to Kashyyyk to visit Malrik and their house that they have there.

"You should come. The Wookies have been waiting to defeat you after the last time." The last time Daimon went to Kashyyyk, he had a small friendly battle with the leaders of the Wookies and defeated them all. This earned him great respect from the Wookies and as the generation passed, they have wanted to fight him again.

"I did have fun last time." Daimon said. Sometimes it was nice to have fun instead of trying to beat someone. But he did it in a way that wouldn't disgrace himself in the eyes of the Wookies.

"But I won't hold you any longer. I have some work to do, but don't hesistate to come find me again before you go so we can do something together." Damon said as he turned to walk into his office.

"We'll make sure to come by before we leave." Said Malrik as they went on their way to head into the city.

Inside his office, Daimon took a seat in his chair to see what things he needed to do.
