He looked up at the building and saw multiple demi-humans looking out of the windows—their eyes glistening with unshed tears. Inside, demi-human mothers gently cradled their children, whispering comforting lullabies even as tears silently rolled down their cheeks. Fathers scrubbed the floors harder, as if their effort alone could keep this place from slipping away.
They knew that this was the only place that they could afford.
Life in the city wasn't that kind to those who didn't have great talents, and this was especially more so for demi-humans, who had travelled from far away in hopes of proving they belonged here.
