Two sharp explosions rang out in close succession, echoing through the city like war drums. The sound snapped codename Six to attention. He turned back, just in time to see a woman falling down from the sky—her descent followed by a large chandelier tumbling after her.
Six squinted his eyes, he recognized her.
It was none other than Three—one of his comrades in the Stone-Cold group. And something wrong had happened to her.
And just as he was about to rush to her aid, a faint tapping noise reached his ears.
…bu to to…
"What the hell was that?" he muttered under his breath, looking around to see nothing but an empty street illuminated only by the dimly flickering oil lamps.
Unnerved by that strangely rhythmic noise that seemed to be a product of his imagination, Six sprinted towards the direction where Three had just crashed.
As he ran, the subtle sounds of rah ta ta were soon drowned beneath the sounds of his hurried footsteps.
