The Divine Script is a Nen product used to amplify the effects of Nen Abilities and enhance various Nen characteristics. It is very similar to the talismans and formations found in cultivation novel.
This is an extremely complex and vast field of Nen product knowledge, with a wide range of applications, whether strong or weak. Beyond its multiple characteristic enhancements, it also has functions similar to Vows and Limitations.
Depending on the order of construction in the Nen formation, the more complex the Divine Script, the stronger its amplifying effect.
However, the time required to inscribe it also increases, and the construction process becomes increasingly cumbersome.
Generally speaking, learning the Divine Script is not particularly difficult, but mastering it is no easy task.
Law learned the Divine Script from Ging, meaning Ging introduced him to it. However, advancing and refining it depends entirely on individual ability.
Regardless of the type of Divine Script, their commonality lies in the fact that they must exist with Nen as the medium. No matter how strong the Nen is, even for Emitters, once the Nen leaves the body, it will gradually weaken over time and eventually dissipate.
However, with the amplification of the Divine Script, the duration for which the Nen's effect can be preserved is significantly extended, though there will still be a limit.
Mito possesses a wooden box inscribed with Divine Script by Ging. Its primary characteristic is to prolong the preservation time of Nen, along with an almost negligible limitation.
Yet, the Divine Script carved into these tree roots has existed for an unknown length of time.
Law carefully examined the Divine Script on the tree roots, memorizing the construction sequence and glyphs in his mind. He then simulated the inscription process to deduce its function.
"The characteristic is 'restraint,' huh..."
Law's eyes narrowed in thought.
'Restraint could also mean suppression. So, what was it suppressing? The growth of this tree?'
Moreover, the Divine Script inscribed on the tree roots differed slightly from the Divine Script Law was familiar with.
Nen is the medium of the Divine Script, serving as the foundation for its load-bearing, transmission, extension, and interconnecting relationships.
It could be said that without Nen, there would be no Divine Script. This is an absolute law. Yet, the framework of these tree roots violates this law.
The Divine Script here was not inscribed using Nen, but it still required Nen as fuel to function… except the fuel in this case was the tree's life force.
The faint life force Law sensed from the Divine Script originated from the tree itself, serving as the fuel for this Divine Script with its 'restraint' characteristic.
To replace Nen with the tree's life force through some method was truly ingenious.
Assuming this Divine Script was left behind by Ging, his intentions were entirely unclear. Law decided to take out his phone and dial Ging's number.
Only a handful of people knew Ging's private number, and Law was one of them, able to contact him at any time.
After a short while, the call connected.
"I found Divine Script inscribed on the roots of a large tree on Whale Island. Did you do this?" Without wasting time, Law got straight to the point as soon as the call connected.
"Not me. Are you sure it's Divine Script?" Ging's tone was filled with surprise.
"I'm certain. But if it wasn't you, who else on Whale Island could have left Divine Script there?" Law asked, puzzled.
Whale Island's population was small, and even though there was a fair amount of transient traffic, very few Nen Users could be found there… let alone one capable of applying Divine Script to such an advanced level.
Ging fell silent upon hearing this. After a moment, as if suddenly realizing something, he questioned, "What are you doing on Whale Island?"
Law's eyes darted, and he replied bluntly, "Just checking in on your kid."
In truth, seeing Mito was more important to him than seeing Gon, but if he admitted that, it might come across as if he were trying to whisk away someone's cousin.
Hearing Law's answer, Ging sighed helplessly but didn't tell him to stay away from Gon. Instead, he returned to the earlier topic, "What's the content of the Divine Script?"
"The characteristic is restraint, inscribed on the tree roots, using the tree's life force as the medium. Judging by the ouroboros-like structure, the Divine Script's function is likely suppressing the tree's growth… but this is just an ordinary poplar."
"Interesting." Ging's eyes lit up.
"What do you think?" Law asked.
"First, confirm whether the poplar's growth is abnormal."
"Let me check."
Law swung his palm, which is covered in God Hand, cutting down the poplar. From the cross-section of the trunk, he could roughly determine its age based on the tree rings. Comparing it with its current state, the poplar's growth appeared normal.
In other words, the Divine Script, which is fueled by the poplar's life force, had no actual effect on suppressing its growth.
Law relayed his findings to Ging, who seemed to fall into thought and didn't respond immediately.
"If it's not restraining the poplar, then it's probably restraining something nearby." Ging speculated after a while.
"Yeah, that's what I was thinking too."
Law glanced at the surroundings and said, "On the surface, it looks like an ouroboros-style suppression mechanism, but in reality, it's just using the tree's life force. So, are you coming over?"
"I will, but it'll take at least a week at the earliest." Ging said.
"Then just get here when you can." Law replied.
"Try not to damage the Divine Script before I arrive." Ging reminded him.
"Got it. I'm hanging up now."
Law ended the call and pocketed his phone.
Afterward, he reattached the severed poplar and carefully dug out the soil around the roots, exposing as much of the buried root system as possible.
Before long, he made another discovery.
The poplar's roots were intertwined with those of another tree about ten meters away… and that tree's roots also bore Divine Script with the restraint characteristic.
This discovery felt like a clue. Following it, Law continued his investigation. As he uncovered more trees inscribed with Divine Script, his astonishment grew beyond measure.
It was like a formation… each tree inscribed with Divine Script was an indispensable part of the array, working together to achieve some grand effect.
The Divine Script on the roots wasn't complex. iIn fact, it was quite simple, capable of only manifesting a single characteristic. But the sheer quantity made up for it.
'If all the Divine Script were linked together, the resulting effect would be enormous… but what exactly was being restrained?'
Unable to make sense of it, Law continued tracing the clues he had found.
His initial guess had been wrong. Whatever was being restrained wasn't near that first tree… it was much farther away.
An hour later, Law arrived at the foot of the active volcano.
Staring at the lush forest covering the mountainside, he muttered in surprise, "Is it suppressing the volcano? But the real question is… who left these Divine Scripts?"
The active volcano at the 'head' of Whale Island constantly emitted smoke, yet the surrounding area was covered in thriving woodland.
This suggested the volcano hadn't erupted in a very long time… otherwise, there wouldn't be so many trees here.
Based on this, his latest guess might be the closest to the truth.
But more than verifying that, what intrigued Law the most was… who had inscribed this epic-scale, colossal Divine Script formation?
