Chapter 954 - Chapter 954 Waiting For an Opportunity

The muffled impact sound even drowned out the constant gunfire within the venue, drawing Law's attention.

'A fight between Nen Users...'

Law looked toward the area where the crowd was gathered. Compared to the nearby combat zones, almost no gunshots could be heard from the direction of that muffled sound.

Clearly, it was because the assailant had charged into the crowd, causing the armed soldiers to hesitate, afraid to fire indiscriminately.

The most efficient way to deal with a Nen User was still to deploy other Nen Users.

Thinking of this, Law turned his gaze toward the direction of the shaded pavilion area.

Not to mention the bodyguards of the dignitaries and celebrities, nor the V6's representatives or Beyond, a major nation like Kakin would certainly have many Nen Users within its military.

Judging from the initial direction of the disturbance, the number of assailants who chose to act at this moment wasn't high. For Kakin's armed forces, suppressing the assailants swiftly should have been a simple matter.

However, from Law's observation, the personnel Kakin had dispatched were mostly regular soldiers with strong physical attributes. As for Nen Users, he had only seen three.

If not for those three Nen Users, Law wouldn't have been able to retrieve a body so quickly.

Law could guess the reason to some extent. He shifted his gaze from the pavilion area to the two nearest combat zones.

That Enhancer-type assailant seemed to possess the ability to harden his skin. Ignoring the military's heavy firepower, he rampaged like an out-of-control truck, leaving a trail of blood and severed limbs in his wake.

A team not equipped with Nen Users had no way of dealing with an Enhancer-type Nen User.

As for the other battlefield, that Manipulator-type female assailant was showing signs of running out of tricks.

Relying solely on controlling civilians and soldiers for attack and defense gave her room to maneuver, but she lacked the impenetrable fortress-like defense of the Enhancer that instilled despair in the soldiers.

In the soldiers' eyes, both opponents were holding their ground stubbornly. However, when facing the Enhancer, the soldiers' morale could easily collapse, whereas against the Manipulator assailant, the soldiers always felt they could find an opening.

Nonetheless, the team of soldiers facing the female assailant was losing members every second, let alone the team facing the male assailant, who was seen as a monster by the soldiers.

'If each squad was equipped with at least two Nen Users, with so many soldiers assisting, even if they couldn't resolve the enemy quickly, they could form an effective suppression, at least limiting the enemy's mobility.'

Watching the two squads without Nen Users being slaughtered one-sidedly, Law slightly frowned.

He had just witnessed the combat capability of that soldier squad equipped with three Nen Users. When launching attacks against the enemy, they coordinated seamlessly with the armed soldiers.

With that level of combat power, forget these assailants… even if it were him, before his Nen Abilities were fully unsealed, he might have been taken out by that soldier squad.

However, the Nen Users Kakin had dispatched were far too few. They could easily have transferred some from the pavilion area, but Kakin had not done so.

'Judging by this situation, these soldiers can't take down these two.'

Law sighed inwardly. If the military had intervened a bit later, he might have single-handedly dealt with these two assailants by now.

But with the military now involved, Law didn't want to risk being hit by stray bullets by joining the fray.

The commotion from the surrounding battles continued incessantly, while the combat zone that had earlier produced the muffled impact had fallen silent.

From Law's position, he could only observe two combat zones. With the military's intervention, he also didn't have the spare capacity to observe everywhere.

Several minutes passed. Under the soldiers' relentless, fearless assaults, the female assailant was shot in the left arm, though by then few soldiers around her remained standing.

In the other combat zone, the soldiers tasked with dealing with the Enhancer assailant were almost all dead.

Watching this, Law understood clearly that Kakin would still dispatch new squads for reinforcement. He just didn't know if the new squads would include Nen Users.

'I can't keep waiting like this.'

Law carefully observed the male Enhancer-type assailant.

Despite continuously maintaining a high output of Aura and taking countless bullets with his body, he showed no signs of weakening.

What did this mean?

If Kakin remained unaware of the situation, or for some other reason still didn't send Nen Users, then no matter how many soldiers they sent, they would essentially be cannon fodder.

Moreover, Law noticed a flaw in the male Enhancer-type assailant: he was overconfident, or too arrogant.

Perhaps because the military's firearms posed no threat to him, the male assailant had basically abandoned defense.

'Wait for an opening, then strike.'

Law had a plan. He silently calculated the distance between himself and the Enhancer assailant.

A sneak attack was impossible, and it would have to be a frontal assault.

With his current Manifested Aura, he would allocate it all to defense. As for offense, he would leave that to Kuro.

Thinking this, Law observed the situation in the female assailant's combat zone again.

Although the female assailant was injured, Law knew the remaining soldiers weren't enough to capture her.

However, Law intended to take not only the male assailant's head but the female assailant's as well.

"Thump!"

With a sound of flesh being pulverized, the last soldier's chest was blown open into a massive, bloody cavity, his corpse sent flying backward.

The tall, burly male assailant coldly glanced at the corpses littering the ground, then turned his gaze toward the more distant crowd.

Compared to the soldiers Kakin had sent, ordinary civilians were better for farming experience points… they hardly resisted, and he could harvest a large number without wasting much Aura.

'Hmm?'

The male assailant suddenly saw an ugly-faced man dart out from the crowd, charging toward him with clear intent.

It was Law. After the last soldier fell, he charged directly at the male assailant.

He had no coordination experience with Kakin's military, so he needed to take down this male assailant before the next batch of soldiers arrived on the scene.

If things went smoothly, perhaps after dealing with the male assailant, he could also take care of the female assailant.

Light of Nen flickered in the male assailant's eyes as he clearly saw the Aura covering Law's body. A disdainful sneer immediately appeared on his face as he actively moved to meet Law's charge.

He had originally planned to charge into the crowd to continue his killing spree. He hadn't expected a Nen User of seemingly mediocre strength to deliver himself to his doorstep.

'If you hadn't come to me willingly, I wouldn't have bothered with you.'

The male assailant coldly muttered to himself, then released an amount of Manifested Aura several times greater than Law's.

At the same time, a reinforcement of two hundred soldiers arrived on the scene. They saw the horrifying piles of their comrades' corpses littering the ground and noticed the male assailant and Law charging toward each other.

Earlier, they had heard from their radios their comrades reporting the battle situation in a tone of utter despair. Now, witnessing the corpses firsthand, they somewhat understood the despair their comrades must have felt.

Then, they saw an unbelievable scene, expressions of shock spreading across their faces.

That monster who had killed so many of their comrades... had his head cleanly severed by a single sword strike from a man who had appeared out of nowhere.

Moreover, they couldn't even see clearly how that ugly-faced man who had appeared had suddenly produced a black longsword.

Shock, bewilderment, confusion.

The soldiers stood frozen in place.

'Just who was that person?'
