Chapter 426 - 426: Can defensive magic still be infected?

Dumbledore naturally aimed the Elder Wand at Snape and Professor McGonagall. Then, with a gentle hook of his wand, he pulled two strands of red magic from their minds.

The two who had been arguing suddenly came back to their senses.

Snape was the first to speak.

"What about the other professors on patrol?"

"If they behave abnormally, Gellert will subdue them immediately," Dumbledore said.

"No. Right now, I should replace Grindelwald. I know absolutely nothing about this kind of emotional magic. I should patrol Hogwarts Castle and subdue any students or professors who develop problems, while Grindelwald comes here to study this magic," Kasenhis said, raising his hand.

"Then go," Dumbledore nodded naturally.

"Mhm."

Kasenhis responded, and in the next moment, he Ender Teleported out of the office. Grindelwald returned in the blink of an eye.

"Wasn't Apparition supposed to be impossible inside Hogwarts? How are both of them able to do this?" Hermione quietly complained.

"As geniuses, they always have more ways to bypass restrictions or break rules," Clay explained.

"Yes, Professor Kasenhis, Professor Grindelwald, Professor Dumbledore, they're all such geniuses... But that isn't something we should be thinking about at our age. At our age, what we should do most is study properly. We mustn't get ahead of ourselves with immature ideas like breaking rules. For example, you. Don't think about those messy things. Studying properly is the true path."

Hermione's lecturing addiction instantly kicked in, and she began speaking nonstop.

"Mhm, yes, yes."

Clay, who had just been standing on Hermione's left, had somehow appeared on her right.

"Oh... You really are fast!" Hermione looked in surprise at Clay, who had appeared beside her at some unknown point.

Clay raised an eyebrow and looked at her with a gaze Hermione knew all too well.

It was the gaze of a top student looking at a poor student.

The next moment, he vanished directly from Hermione's sight and returned once more to the place where he had first been standing.

".....What... the... hell?"

Hermione widened her eyes and turned to look at Clay, who had just shown off in front of her.

"What year are you in?"

"Fourth year," Clay said.

Hermione seemed unable to believe it and subconsciously rolled her eyes.

Fourth year.

She was in sixth year now, two years older than him.

She looked at Clay again.

"What wizarding family are you from?"

"Same as you. Muggle-born," Clay replied.

"Oh."

Hermione nodded, then unconsciously began walking towards the window of the Headmaster's office.

Seeing this, Dumbledore once again pointed the Elder Wand at Hermione's head. This time, however, no red magic was pulled out.

Clearly, Hermione was not being influenced by anything strange this time.

She genuinely wanted to die.

But before she could climb out of the window, she was knocked back by a square, bouncy slime block.

Only the purple specks of light left behind by Kasenhis' Ender Teleport remained at the scene, displaying the suspect's identity.

Meanwhile, after using a slime block to throw Hermione back into the Headmaster's office, Kasenhis had no time to say anything like "For Dumbledore's sake" before rushing to the next location.

Professor Anton Hawke of Ancient Runes and Professor Flitwick of Charms. Just hearing those names, you could tell that neither of them was someone easy to deal with.

The moment Kasenhis appeared between them, the two of them swiftly made the exact same move.

They attacked Kasenhis.

Unfortunately, with a hum, their spells merely struck the walls of Hogwarts, while Kasenhis swiftly used four cobwebs to bind them both, at least stopping them from adding to the chaos.

Fine.

In the truest sense, Hogwarts really did not lack these two adding to the chaos.

Perhaps as time passed, that damned emotional magic was no longer limited to making people attack stone bricks or lawns. It was gradually filling people with hostility, making even the smallest matter enough to drive awake students and their companions into beating each other's brains out.

"Bloody hell, I need a method. Forget it, cobwebs it is. They may not look good, but they're efficient!"

Having lost his composure, Kasenhis pulled out a cobweb and began scattering them wherever he went.

Unfortunately, Hogwarts Castle was not stored inside his Ender Chest. Otherwise, with a single thought, he could have turned the entire school into a Spider Cave.

A true Spider Cave in every sense.

After finishing all this, Kasenhis returned to the Headmaster's office. At this moment, the Headmaster's office was truly a paradise beyond the world, the only place where Kasenhis could catch his breath.

"Have you figured out that magic yet?" Kasenhis asked, exhausted as he sat down in a chair, looking only one step away from burning out completely.

"Almost. We now understand the principle behind it, and this should be Tom's work," Dumbledore said quietly.

"Mhm, I can tell. Severus' arm looks rather hot, after all."

Kasenhis nodded and looked towards Snape's forearm, which was continuously giving off steam.

"This thing is that exaggerated?" Kasenhis asked in surprise.

"When the Dark Lord is angry enough, it becomes like this. But clearly, that anger is not directed at me," Snape explained with a shrug.

As for the other students in the office, they had already taken the initiative to become wall-corner decorations. At this moment, they had mentally prepared themselves to be hit from behind with an Obliviate at any moment.

Although the fact that Professor Snape had once been a Death Eater was an open secret in the magical world, now that Voldemort's attack had entered its second round, the fact that Professor Snape was still a Death Eater seemed a little too much, didn't it?

Even more outrageous was that Professor Dumbledore knew about it!

That made it an earth-shattering secret. Faced with such a secret, having their memories erased would be perfectly reasonable. Truly, perfectly reasonable.

"Of course I know this is Voldemort's work. What's the principle behind it, and how do we solve it?"

"Hogwarts' original protective magic should be able to prevent anyone within the school from being affected by magic and curses from outside. With the situation as it is now, all we can say is that something has gone wrong with Hogwarts' protective magic," Dumbledore explained.

"It may even be worse than that. This large-scale influence affecting the entire school may be caused by Hogwarts' own defensive magic being contaminated. Otherwise, to be honest, I don't see Voldemort managing to cast such a wide-reaching emotion-altering spell on hundreds of students across Hogwarts," Grindelwald added.
