Chapter 4 - Chapter 4: Blood Ties in The Jungle

Chapter 4: Blood Ties in the Jungle

The jungle screamed in the distance—shouts, screams, the savage sound of metal on flesh, and the echoes of death reverberated through the dense trees. But to Rain Asura, there was nothing but silence. Cold, calculated silence. His red eyes glinted through the foliage as he watched the chaos unfold in front of him. The world was dying, and so were the people still left in it.

Rain didn't mind the death. He had seen too much of it to feel anything. But what disturbed him was the smell. It wasn't just blood—it was fear. And fear was the greatest currency in this hellhole of a game.

A group of players, six of them, moved in tight formation ahead. They were armed—swords, makeshift axes, and the kind of gear that screamed desperation. Their eyes darted around, scanning the trees, their every motion twitchy, like prey ready to bolt.

Rain's lips curled into a thin smile. He wasn't after them—not today. His focus was elsewhere.

The Killing Fields

Up ahead, amidst the tangled mess of trees and underbrush, Kaizr Asura was surrounded. He stood tall, his silhouette dark against the half-moon above. Blood soaked his clothes—his black hair matted and wild, and his dark blue eyes glowed with the kind of unholy fire that made the trees themselves seem to wither.

Four players lay dead at his feet. The ground was a grim patchwork of crimson and flesh. His blade, jagged and brutal, was dripping with the remains of the last man he'd butchered.

"You think you can take me?" Kaizr sneered at the remaining three players, a thin line of blood dripping from the corner of his mouth. The others were shaking, their weapons trembling in their hands, but Kaizr knew their fear wouldn't save them. Fear only made him stronger.

One man, a hulking figure with a battleaxe, swung at him with a wild roar. Kaizr dodged, his body a blur of motion. The swing cut through the air where Kaizr had been a second ago, and the axe slammed into a nearby tree with such force that it split the wood in two.

"Pathetic."

Kaizr grinned, his eyes narrowing with savage pleasure as he leaped forward, his blade flashing in the moonlight. He slashed across the man's chest in one fluid motion, severing muscle and bone like they were paper. The battleaxe-wielder staggered back, but Kaizr wasn't done.

The next blow came faster, a vicious diagonal slash across the man's throat. Blood sprayed, and the man's head rolled off his shoulders like a ragdoll's. He collapsed in a heap, the light fading from his eyes.

Kaizr turned to face the two remaining players, his expression twisted into a feral grin. They weren't going to last long.

A Change in the Winds

Rain observed all of this from the shadows. His brother's bloodlust was undeniable—Kaizr was a killing machine, fueled by a sadistic joy that left him unpredictable and dangerous. But there was something more—something that set Kaizr apart from the others.

Aether's voice suddenly filled the air, distant but clear. "Kaizr Asura has completed the first condition of the God Games."

Rain's eyes narrowed. He had known the conditions would push them, but Kaizr was moving far too quickly, gaining strength with each kill. He was becoming a monster.

The Second Kill

The last two players—both women—were no longer trying to flee. They had recognized Kaizr for what he was, and now they prepared for the inevitable. One of them, a short-haired woman with a spear, lunged first. Her desperation fueled her attack, but it was sloppy. Kaizr blocked the strike effortlessly, spinning her around and twisting the weapon from her hands.

Without missing a beat, he plunged his blade into her side, cutting through ribs and flesh with sickening precision. She gasped, her body jerking, but Kaizr didn't give her a chance to scream. He yanked his blade out, and before she could crumple to the ground, he kicked her in the chest, sending her flying into the nearest tree, her body breaking on impact.

The final woman, a tall, wiry figure, was backing away, her eyes wide with terror. She clutched a bow in her shaking hands, the string taut with an arrow aimed directly at Kaizr's chest.

But Kaizr was faster.

With a twisted smile, he charged.

The woman fired, the arrow whistling through the air toward him, but Kaizr dodged it with supernatural speed, weaving around it like it was nothing. He reached her in a heartbeat, his blade slicing through the air.

Her scream was cut short as Kaizr's blade cleaved through her arm, severing it at the elbow. She dropped the bow, her mouth agape in shock, but Kaizr didn't wait. He spun, his foot sweeping out to knock her legs out from under her, and in a single, effortless motion, buried his blade in her heart.

As her body went limp, Kaizr stood over her, his chest heaving. "Is that all?" he muttered.

The Reunion

Rain emerged from the shadows, stepping into the clearing as Kaizr wiped the blood from his blade. The air was thick with the scent of death.

Kaizr's dark blue eyes flicked to Rain, his grin widening. "You missed the fun, Rain. But then again, you always were the cautious one."

Rain's red eyes remained cold as ever, his gaze calculating. "You're growing reckless, Kaizr. One day, your bloodlust will catch up to you."

Kaizr chuckled darkly. "Reckless? Maybe. But at least I'm winning." He motioned to the bodies around them, his grin never fading. "What about you, Rain? Still lurking in the shadows, waiting for the right moment?"

Rain didn't respond immediately. Instead, his gaze lingered on his brother, noting the blood staining his clothes, the hunger in his eyes. He wasn't just playing the game. Kaizr was consumed by it.

"Have you completed Ares's first condition?" Rain asked, his voice calm, measured.

Kaizr's grin faltered for just a moment. "Yeah. Ten kills in twenty-four hours. Not a challenge."

Rain's gaze sharpened. "You've gained power too quickly, Kaizr. You don't understand the consequences of that."

Kaizr stepped closer, the intensity of his presence palpable. "I don't need to understand. I just need to be stronger than anyone else."

Without another word, Kaizr turned and walked away, leaving Rain standing amidst the carnage.

The Price of Power

As Rain watched his brother disappear into the darkness, the weight of what had just happened settled over him. Kaizr was more dangerous than ever. Ares's influence had already begun to warp him.

Rain clenched his fists, his mind racing. Kaizr was no longer just his brother—he was a force of destruction. And soon, the entire God Games would tremble under Kaizr's ambition.

But Rain wasn't finished yet.

Not by a long shot.
