It had been three weeks since the terrifying assassination attempt on Princess Elara and Princess Lara's lives. A few days after the tragic attack, a rigorous interrogation commenced upon the cloaked assassins, revealing that three of the four city Marquises had played a hand in the treasonous operation. They were to be punished severely for their crimes and replaced by capable heirs next in line from their respective households. The King had even considered eradicating their households altogether, but realistically, it would've been far too significant a loss to the crown's stability.
Their formal trials would take place after the Great Hunt was over, so for now, they were granted a temporary pardon. This reprieve was strictly for the duration of the impending war.
