Chapter 6 - Fighting (2)

He sat in the darkness once again. And as he did so, he heard voices. The other humans in the cages usually spoke quietly, in hushed tones. But this man was loud.

He perked up, staring at the scene. There were many men, but one stood at the front. He was dressed in fine fabrics and was fat. And it tow, escorted by many humans all armed well - was a single man. He was not as large, or tall as the shirtless men that the Beast had fought earlier. He was more lean, and had lighter skin as if he had been in the sun sparingly in his life, and was less scarred.

The fat man laughed at him, and opened the door to the cage besides the beast, that had previously been empty. One of the armed men shoved the prisoner into the cage, and the fat one pointed to the Beast, giggling. Then, they all left.

The strange man sighed, and sat cross-legged in his cage, and closed his eyes. The Beast stared at him for a long while. He was different from the other humans. There was something about him that the beast understood.

When the enslaved men returned, they clipped their metal contraptions onto his cage once again and dragged the Beast along to the gates. This time, though, they also dragged the strange man.

And the Beast was freed, walking upon the gravel of the colosseum again. And so did the strange man, who was not armed at all. This confused the Beast. All humans were armed. He did not understand why this one was not. Anyhow, he understood that this human had come out of the same gate as him. So naturally, he must have been here to help the beast hunt.

The Beast looked upon the next group of opponents.

These were not the normal ones that he had faced. These ones, were much different. Their skin was adorned with armour of bronze and gold, and they carried masterfully crafted polearms and blades.

There were many of them, as well. Perhaps two dozen. More than the beast had faced so far. It was as if he, and the strange man who was assisting him, had been expected to lose this.

One of the opponents moved forward first, lunging with the spike of a poleaxe. But, he moved towards the human besides the Beast, first. He likely thought the Beast was mindless, and slow, and only wished to rampage. Perhaps the latter was true, but not the former.

The beast raised a hand, and grabbed his opponent by the arm, preventing the lunge. The humans arm twisted horribly as it snapped and mutilated. The man cried out, and he was met with a jab in the throat from the human besides the Beast.

The beast let go of his arm, and began to engage with the rest of the humans. He dodged one blow of a man with a shortsword that came first and brought his closed fist down onto the top of his head thereafter. It did not matter that the men were armoured, to the beast, as his fists easily crushed through the plates of bronze and gold. Another came to the beast from behind, and he was stopped by the human allied with the beast by a kick to the head, crushing his helmet and his skull.

The beast charged forward now with the ally of fear on his side, too. It took only a minute or two for the beast and the allied human to kill the rest of the men. Despite the beasts ferocity, he and the human worked surprisingly gracefully as a team. Neither of them could talk to each other. But in a way they both understood each others own language. They understood each others way of fighting. That, was how they communicated.

The beast finished killing the last man, ripping his arm off and shoving it into his mouth for its taste. It tasted delicious, as it always had.
