Chapter 690 - Chapter 690: A Quarrel Between Brothers

["No!!!" Thor, who had just arrived at his mother's chambers, witnessed this horrific scene and immediately released a roar of pure anguish and fury.]

[Before Malekith could turn around to assess the new threat, a devastating bolt of lightning struck his face with tremendous force, completely destroying half of his features in a burst of divine energy.]

[Algrim quickly retrieved the wounded Malekith and rushed toward the balcony for their escape. An enraged Thor swung Mjolnir with all his godly strength. Algrim used his own body as a shield to protect Malekith from the hammer's impact. Then both Dark Elves were extracted by their waiting warship.]

[Thor caught Mjolnir as it returned to his grasp and hurled it at the escaping battleship with desperate fury, but the weapon missed its target. In the end, he could only watch helplessly as they disappeared into the void.]

"Damn those cursed Dark Elves!" Thor's face contorted with pure rage and grief.

Although Malekith and his forces had perished long ago in their timeline, Thor still couldn't suppress the surge of boiling blood when witnessing Frigga's murder through the sky screen.

The power of thunder began manifesting around him, and both Stormbreaker and Mjolnir resonated with his divine power simultaneously, creating an electric field that crackled with dangerous energy.

Mysterio, who had approached to offer comfort, observed Thor's volatile state and quickly shouted: "Whoa, whoa! Calm yourself, Thor!"

Thor took several deep breaths and gradually regained his composure, though his jaw remained clenched with suppressed emotion.

In the prison depths of Asgard, Loki clenched his fists tightly and his entire body trembled uncontrollably with guilt and self-recrimination. How could his actions have resulted in his own mother's death?

The mother who had loved and tolerated all his flaws had died because of his mischievous guidance to Algrim?

Loki couldn't fathom what psychological damage he would suffer if this tragedy had actually occurred in their timeline. He even began to despise his own tendency toward mischievous behavior and manipulation.

Just as Loki wallowed in emotional torment, Frigga suddenly appeared at the dungeon entrance and gazed at Loki, who maintained a composed facade within his cell.

Loki immediately looked up at Frigga, a flash of genuine joy crossing his features, but he quickly suppressed the emotion and projected a magical illusion to conceal his true state.

Frigga observed the false projection before her, understanding that Loki refused to reveal his vulnerable side to anyone, and released a gentle sigh.

"We all love you deeply, my child!"

Loki's illusion responded with practiced indifference: "Do you really?"

Observing Loki's defensive behavior, Frigga sighed with maternal sadness. She didn't know how to penetrate his emotional barriers. Perhaps only her death could force Loki to confront his genuine feelings!

[Asgard conducted a magnificent funeral ceremony for Frigga, and her body transformed into brilliant aurora lights that ascended toward Valhalla.]

[Observing the countless orbs of light filling the sky, Odin bowed his head in profound disappointment. He didn't have much time remaining, but he had never expected his beloved wife to precede him in death!]

[Loki, who had been reading in his prison cell, learned about Frigga's death from a prison guard's casual announcement.]

[He nodded with apparent calm, as if the matter held no personal significance for him.]

[However, after the guards departed, Loki rose slowly and set his book aside, staring at the wall while lost in tormented contemplation.]

[As he clenched his fists with overwhelming grief, the furniture around him was blown apart by his unleashed power, revealing that his heart was anything but calm.]

[The scene transitioned to show Thor's decision to request Loki's assistance.]

[Loki observed Thor approaching the energy barrier of his cell, speaking with his hands clasped behind his back as if nothing in the universe could affect him:]

["Thor! After all this extended time, you finally decided to visit me! Why now?! Are you here to gloat over my circumstances? Or perhaps to mock my situation?"]

[Thor regarded his brother calmly, seeing through Loki's defensive masquerade.

"Loki! Enough of this charade! Stop concealing your true self!"]

[Recognizing that Thor had seen through his deception, Loki closed his eyes briefly and dispelled the illusion, revealing the actual state of his cell.]

[He sat slumped against the floor with disheveled hair, surrounded by overturned furniture and debris scattered throughout the space.]

[Loki looked directly at Thor: "This is the reality, brother!"]

[At this moment, he no longer cared whether Thor would ridicule his emotional breakdown.]

[Thor moved closer to the barrier.]

[Loki asked the question that tormented him most: "Did Frigga suffer when she died?"]

["I'm not here to share in your grief! I'm here to offer you an opportunity for redemption!"]

[Loki tilted his head with cynical interest: "Please elaborate!"]

["I know you desire revenge as intensely as I do! Help me escape Asgard! I'll provide you with a chance! Gain your revenge! Then return here to serve your sentence!"

Loki laughed bitterly: "You must be truly desperate to seek my assistance! How can you possibly know you can trust me?"

Thor responded with brutal honesty: "I don't trust you! Mother did! But what I will say is that throughout our past encounters, I maintained hope for your redemption! After all, you are my brother!"

"But that hope has been extinguished now! If you dare betray me, I will end your life without hesitation!"]

[Observing Thor's deadly serious expression, Loki couldn't suppress a slight smile.]

["Very well! When do we begin?"]

"It appears this Loki isn't as cold-hearted as he pretends! I simply don't understand why he feels compelled to disguise himself constantly?" Tony lifted the beer bottle and took another tentative sip.

Banner offered his psychological assessment: "I sense that he cares excessively about others' perceptions of him!"

"Exactly! He deceived Thor to gain Odin's approval, and invaded New York to attract more attention to himself!"

Scott scratched his head thoughtfully. In his opinion, Loki resembled a troubled child who desperately craved attention and would commit extraordinary acts to achieve it, similar to Naruto's childhood behavior.

Natasha provided her tactical analysis: "Perhaps it's because of his Frost Giant heritage, making him feel like an outsider among Asgardians?"

Pietro shrugged with casual insight: "The God of Mischief wouldn't permit others to mock him openly?"

Thor released Loki from his prison and requested his guidance to the Dark Elves' realm, intending to extract the Aether particles from Jane Foster's body and achieve vengeance for Frigga!

[Arriving in the desolate dark dimension, Jane lay weakly aboard their vessel, resting. The Aether particles had drained substantial amounts of her life force, leaving her appearance gaunt and frail.]

[Loki observed her condition and commented: "What if the energy flowing through her blood was transferred to me?"

Thor responded with calm certainty: "Then you would certainly die!"]

[Loki regarded Jane with puzzled curiosity: "Yet she remains alive! Until this moment!"]

["She possesses strength beyond your comprehension!"]

[Loki tilted his head with philosophical resignation: "It's time for farewell!"]

["Today! Tomorrow! Or a century from now! The timing makes no difference! The agony of heartbreak! You'll never escape it!"

He stood and continued: "Regardless of your efforts, the woman you love most will eventually abandon you!"

Thor couldn't help but stare at him with growing irritation: "Are you satisfied with this cruelty now?"]

[Loki shook his head with bitter honesty: "I will never achieve satisfaction!"]

["Then I will never surrender hope!"]

Loki's expression turned sour with cynicism: "Precisely what I'd expect from Odin's son!"

[Thor immediately interrupted him upon hearing this familiar refrain.]

["No! It's not only Odin! Do you believe you're the sole recipient of mother's love? You inherited her magical abilities, and I received her trust!!!"]]
