Chapter 78 - Raid On Nebiros

[Third Person POV]

As Hajime, Monet, and Jenny approached the Nebiros mansion, Hajime started to understand the difficulty of their current mission.

With his observation haki, Hajime could sense hundreds of people within the mansion grounds.

Most of them, judging by their power and movements, were either servants or guards.

The strongest of them was high-class, and even then, they were quite a ways away from ultimate-class.

Jenny would undoubtedly be the weakest link, but even then, she'd be more than capable of dealing with the mid-class fighters with ease, and as long as they didn't swarm her, the high-class.

Monet's abilities would be limited indoors, but only barely. With haki, ice-make magic, and her logia body, trapping her would be practically impossible. Hajime had even prepared in advance, removing her heat weakness with a card, to ensure she wouldn't be taken down easily.

The two of them both had their roles.

He gave Jenny some Pym Particle Discs, and after using her takeover magic, she would shrink the object and store it in her nondescript bag.

Monet's job, ironically, was to take care of Koneko and any other children there. Given her history, even though he knew she had changed somewhat, Hajime still felt a little hesitant in giving her the role.

In the end, he gave it to her. Even if it just meant she was putting on an act, he figured if it meant increased odds of children listening, it was the right call. Was she doing it for psychopathic reasons in the past? Yes, but that didn't mean the skill was useless.

Sure, he might be able to convince some victims, but for those like Kuroka, who thought things were so hopeless that they took such extreme measures? He doubted he could talk them down.

Despite everything she did with it, Monet had the skills he lacked.

Hajime created two shadow clones, which transformed into bracelets that the girls put on.

They weren't going to stick together once they got inside.

That was because they were in the right place. Deep beneath the house, at least 100 meters, Hajime could sense dozens of people. Of those who were down there, they were either high-class, likely guards and scientists, or low-class, their victims.

There might've been some mix-up, but it was likely only a few, like Kuroka, who were successful test subjects.

Phasing the three of them through the nearly 100-meter-thick floor between the mansion, Hajime had them separate in different directions.

Monet, guided by her observation haki, glided down the hallway toward the prison corridor.

Jenny went the opposite direction, following a few brief instructions from Hajime to an empty room filled with machinery for her to take.

Hajime continued phasing through the walls, moving toward the individual with the largest energy signature sitting somewhere around intermediate ultimate-class.

-----

Jenny reached her destination first, shortly after the alarms started blaring, alerting the facility to their arrival.

Closing the door behind her, she realized she was in an armory of some kind.

There were several suits of armor for medieval knights that she could tell were enchanted, but she didn't take them.

They were too identifiable to be used, whereas technology was harder to trace and could be easily built or copied.

Luckily, it wasn't all armor.

In the back of the room, Jenny found an entire workshop connected to the place, filled with dozens of guns of all types, many of which were supernatural in origin, including a Light Gun that Exorcists use.

The weapons were all small and uncomplicated, making using her magic on them extremely easy.

Ensuring the safeties were on, Jenny put one of each gun into her bag for future reverse engineering before heading toward the door to look for the next room.

As she was about to exit, multiple devils burst in through the door, each wearing more normal clothing.

"Oops, this definitely isn't the pool. Would one of you boys mind helping me find it?"

Seeing an intruder in the room, the leading devil didn't hesitate to unleash a large earth spear spell.

Jenny activated her takeover magic. A light engulfed her before fading quickly, revealing Jenny in a yellow suit of armor with a CAT logo on the front. On her back were four large metal arms, like Spider-Man's Iron Spider suit. At the ends of each arm was a thick, black case with a magic-enhanced steel pole in the center. Her arms had two similar weapons on the back, looking like Bismuth's Breaking Point from Steven Universe.

In total, there were six powerful, magically reinforced spikes ready to punch a hole through whatever got in their way.

This armor was taken over from a piece of heavy machinery known as a rock breaker and, thanks to magic, turned into a deadly armor for close-quarters combat.

While normally she might avoid casualties, Hajime had made it clear to her that even if the guards were here just for the job, they should be dealt with since the Nebiros clan was just plain evil.

Charging forward into the crowd, Jenny moved the top right arm to shatter the earth spear that the devil guard launched at her.

The spear crumbled to dust that exploded in all directions, providing Jenny a minor smokescreen.

Jenny moved past the group with ease. There were only five of them, so she was able to launch one attack with her back arms and her right arm. With her control, she managed to hit all of them in and around the heart.

The spikes withdrew, letting the five devils fall to the ground.

Though she didn't have observation haki like Hajime and Monet, Jenny knew that the soldiers from upstairs would be arriving any minute.

To avoid any of them getting a single weapon from here, Jenny shifted her armor to the Milano form, firing an energy from her arm directly at the workshop before rushing away from the room, not watching as everything inside melted into slag.

As soon as the energy hit the door, it pushed outward, releasing a small explosion that quickly grew as other guns and the armor each took hits, adding their own energy to it, shaking the hallways, and incinerating the bodies and equipment.

It wasn't enough to collapse the entire facility. Still, the area the armory was in took serious damage, and the surroundings were lined with cracks, as if the entire place would collapse at any moment.

As Jenny ran through the hallways, she used her Rock Breaker Armor to fight anyone she came across.

Though her opponents could clearly see the hydraulic spikes surrounding her, there was little they could do to stop her rampaging through their facility.

By infusing her magic into the tips of the breakers, Jenny was able to use them to smash apart any spell that got too close. With 6 breakers total, she was able to rush forward, destroying any attacks, letting her close in to finish off her attackers.

Hajime had made it very clear that they should cause as much damage to the Nebiros as possible, including their manpower. Devils needed their reputation to conduct business. Nobody would trust the house that was conducting psychotic experiments, had its lab broken into and slaughtered, and then failed to find the culprits. It would be an absolute disgrace.

It isn't like the average devil might care about the experiments, but if others found out? Serafall would become incredibly busy because of it. After all, who can say whether their own people were used in the tests?

As Jenny ran through the hall, she broke into every room, took whatever technology she could, and killed all the guards and scientists. None of them was innocent.

Eventually, she found a set of double doors. Pushing them open and entering, she was greeted with a cafeteria with a few dozen devils eating lunch. Not every room here was for research.

As soon as the devils saw the unfamiliar woman wearing strange magical armor, the guards in the room jumped to their feet and started casting.

Any protocol they had was out the window because, judging by the smell she had and the red stains on her armor, they weren't the first ones she ran into.

Some devils, namely the researchers, pulled out the magical guns they always kept on hand. They weren't any worse than the guards in terms of magic power. Each of them was high-class, but the guards were the only ones with combat knowledge. Most of the researchers studied magic to understand it, only occasionally putting it into practice, and most hadn't fought a serious fight in decades.

While Jenny was only high-class and was up against multiple high-class devils, there was actually a difference in ability.

First, the guards weren't as combat-active as Jenny was. She was a mage who frequently fought against enemies with lethal intent. These guards, however, have spent years doing patrols and keeping their prisoners in line. And though they trained frequently, that was only compared to devils, so maybe once every couple of months.

For beings with such long lifespans, without the threat of war or an immense desire, there was little urgency in their lives.

Second, Jenny's abilities were of higher quality. She'd trained for the last year, with Hajime as a sparring partner, and with combat skills, he had easily helped everyone grow stronger. Skill was immeasurable, so most of their ranks didn't change since they only calculated raw power, but despite being high-class, Jenny was much stronger than the average one.

As the devils closed in on all sides, Jenny switched out her Rock Breaker Armor for her Milano Armor.

The armor changed from a thick yellow-and-black color to a slimmer blue-and-orange armor. Two wings split into 3 protrusions stuck out from her shoulder blades, while a rocket thruster was on her lower back. Her head was covered in a glass helmet, resembling an astronaut's.

This armor had become one of her favorites over the last year. It doubled her speed and strength, could fly, and had multiple types of guns that could be used like Erza's Requip or extended and retracted from different locations, such as the shoulders and wrists. One gun even had elemental abilities, Peter Quill's Element Gun/Quad Blaster.

Despite the name, it, in fact, did nothing for one's legs. It was a weapon capable of shooting the four elements: wind, water, fire, and earth.

Luckily for Jenny, since her gun was made of magic, she had more options. By summoning two or more guns at once, she could use multiple elements in different proportions, fusing them into a new one.

For example, right now, she has already unleashed two Element Guns from her shoulders, directing one to use fire and the other to use earth, creating a barrage of magma-like bullets that slam into many of the devils.

She felt it was strange that none of them tried flying to dodge, something Hajime warned her was possible, but she figured it was probably some dumb reason like forgetting they could do it.

It wouldn't be the first time she'd seen people forget obvious things, and if she was being honest, she occasionally did the same.

With the element guns on her shoulders continuously firing at any devil that got too close, Jenny kept switching new weapons into her hands, including rocket launchers, miniguns, ion and laser cannons, and gas grenades, all courtesy of Rocket's weapon stash.

Unfortunately for the devils, the weapons, though technological, were able to be infused with her magic, increasing the lethality of every shot she took, and with her Milano Armor automatically firing, even with the constant drain on her energy, Jenny made quick work of the devils.

The closest one got was a few feet away, using magic to float a bunch of metal food trays in front of them as shields, only to be torn through in seconds by her minigun.

By the time the last devil in the cafeteria had stopped breathing, Jenny had finally started sweating. Her reserves had been taken down to half thanks to the constant weapon use and automatic armor attacks.

Unfortunately, blood was covering Jenny's armor, so she took the moment to use the Element Gun to clean herself off before continuing.
