I finally woke up on time, yet this girl was still up before me, I genuinely think she has infinite energy.
Before heading downstairs I brushed my teeth and took a quick shower. Today was my gym day where I'd be focusing on endurance, since It was basically a requirement to run away from something in gravity falls and the combat art, I learned my first day reincarnating here.
Trotting down the stairs I thought about potentially buying classes, just so I could learn better with my ability, but my thoughts were quickly interrupted.
Passing by Mabel who seemed to have just got there, eating cereal on the couch I heard the screen flicker to life.
"Who's cute as a button and always your friend!"
The voice was way to familiar, and when I turned my head back to a boy dressed in an all-blue suit that no child had any business wearing, with hair like a cartoon villain and eyes that were, from my purely objective standpoint, slightly unsettling. He spread his arms wide like he was about to hug the entire television audience whether they wanted it or not.
"Lil Gideon!!"
The commercial ended with the tent squashing our mystery shack.
"Come see Little Gideon at the Tent of Telepathy. He'll change your life."
Then it cut to an ad for a mattress store.
I thought for a moment.
I knew about Gideon. I knew he was dangerous, then again, I thought the same about the statues who were capable of killing without much delay. But he had Journal Two. He had that amulet as well. He had an entire town wrapped around his tiny fingers and he was going to make a serious play for this Shack, I could probably stop him from meeting Mabel specifically but still the shack was in danger, along with the town's privacy.
I went to pour myself a bowl of cereal, now I've decided to deal with Gideon but how should I go about stopping him.
Just as that idea manifested Stan came through seemingly on a mission which was different from the tired blob he started the day as.
He poured himself a coffee, took one sip, and pointed at me. "You see that Gideon kid's commercial?"
"Yeah we did! He's a ps—"
"Fraud," Stan said before she finished, with the comfortable certainty of a man who knew frauds personally. "You two stay away from him. That whole Tent of Telepathy thing is a racket. I know a racket when I see one." He drank his coffee. "'Child psychic', that brat came into my town, he's gonna destroy people with his lies, especially my business!"
"but he's so little,"
"Even worse. Stay away."
"C'mon grunkle stan, lets at least see if he's legit."
"I think he might be right on this one Mabel, he's clearly a scam artist no use in wasting money on a light show." I said tentatively.
"At least one of you has some sense." He left huffing at the idea of going to the tent. I heard the door to his office close.
Luckily Stan was already there on the "stay away from Gideon" approach.
"Boo, you guys are boring."
I waved her off, getting back to my cereal.
"Dipper! Didn't you see his hair It's humongous, I gotta see it with my own eyes."
The most common sense way I'd thought of taking away the journal and the amulet was to simply steal it while he was asleep.
Both things needed to happen asap before he even thinks of coming close to the shack.
I spent the morning in the room we shared, on the floor with Journal Three open in front of.
Ahha!
The journal had entries on the amulet, just as suspected. Not much on it undoerunately a paragraph, and a sketch. The amulet, or 'Mystic Amulet' to put it simply was an object that granted it's wearer mild telekinetic powers. The rest is just it's location which I assume Gideon had already found and a warning.
'The wearer of this pendant beware, the amulet corrupts the soul and ghostly whitens your hair.' The rest in journal two.
So it seemed I couldn't use it to my heart content like I'd hoped, surely there was a way to bypass that major drawback, It'd probably be in one of the other journals. Still I wasn't exactly in a rush one step at a time wouldn't hurt and of course way more fun.
Getting the amulet meant getting into Gideon's house, which I had no idea where it was, the easiest way would be to simply follow him after the tent of telepathy's show was done that'd be the biggest time killer for me and I still needed to do the chores stan had today
Breaking in myself was also a big no, if I got caught these police officers in this town would give me an earful and some serious charges
Luckily, I had a few subordinates to help out with my lil ol' crisis.
Jeff was standing at attention with a four of his lackeys at his sides. We were just in the woods behind the Shack, the fifty other gnomes I'd commanded to continue the hunt no where in sight.
"King Dipper!" Jeff jogged over by himself. He had changed his leaf since the last time I'd seen him, which I noted without commenting on. "Hey jeff, found the mushroom I asked for?"
"Hahahaa uhh not quite yet, where searching in quadrants like you asked but it's still taking a while, why'd you ask me too bring a few other if I may wonder?"
"A job,"
The gnomes nearby perked up. A few of them started whispering, probably some nonsense. Jeff held up a hand and they quieted immediately.
"What kind of job," Jeff said.
"There's something I need retrieved, there a new tent in town, I need you to follow a boy named Gideon white hair blue suit and tiny back to his home. He has a Small green pendant. I showed them the journals drawing.
Should be easy to locate. it's probably somewhere easy to find,"
"also this journal from the kids room, it looks exactly like mine. I need it by tonight."
Jeff stroked his beard. He had the look of someone doing mental calculations that were either very impressive or very simple.
"Tonight," he said. "We'll go at midnight. I'll meet up with you once we get his location."
"I'll be on the street for watch duty," I said. "Two knocks on a tree if there's a problem."
"Two knocks, got it boss." Jeff agreed.
I headed back to the Shack before anyone notice I was gone a little to long.
Finally it was Midnight in Gravity Falls.
I was actually a bit late for my own plans, Mabel took a long while to go to sleep today, she'd gotten done with her few chores before I completely my tough ones and bought a few bags of candy, how'd I know she ate them all in one sitting? Well seeing her sprawled over with a tummy ache and empty wrappers was a dead giveaway.
Still I headed out as quickly as possible using this to make up my endurance training. While running I had used my powers, simply so I could get used to the act of running, I was still to out of shape and as soon as I got the free time I'd train like a madman to enjoy my stay.
I stood across the street from the Gleeful house which coincidentally, was next to the tent of telepathy with a flashlight in my pocket and journal 3 under my arm and watched the gnomes who had been waiting for me vanish into the hedge line like they'd been poured into it.
The house was large and white with decorative shutters windows and a small billboard that quite literally said 'home to lil Gideon'. every light inside was off. There was a van right at my side that said TENT OF TELEPATHY on the side. A ceramic lawn gnome sat next to the front walkway and I watched the actual gnomes give it a long, complicated look as they passed, climbing atop each other to reach higher.
Then I waited..
And waited..,
turned out, waiting was gonna be most of the night. I had thought watch duty would feel I don't know, more tactical and alert, but It mostly felt like crouching on a sidewalk in the dark.
I simply had to make peace with how boring it was.
At least thirty minutes later, I heard a soft crash from somewhere in the backyard. I tensed. No other noise came after. The house stayed dark.
Five minutes after, there was a sound that was either an owl or a gnome saying "ow" very quietly. I chose to believe owl.
Just two minutes later, Jeff appeared at the edge of the hedge line and waved at me in a way that communicated things had gone either very well or moderately well. I crossed the street.
"Well?" I said.
Jeff held up the pendant.
I stared at it. It was smaller than I'd imagined, still it looked similar to the picture. a flat oval of some type of emerald stone, on a thin ribbon, with a faint glow to it that might have been the streetlight. It felt heavier than it should've when Jeff dropped it into my palm.
"The journal, hand it over."
He seemed to stay silent on purpose.
"Where's Journal Two?" I asked, but I felt I already knew the answer
Jeff looked sideways. "We couldn't find it."
"You couldn't find it?" I repeated.
"It's a big house," he said, with the voice of someone who had prepared this excuse in advance and was slightly embarrassed by it. "And the kid has a lot of stuff. There were porcelain figurines everywhere. It was disorienting."
I looked at the gnomes. Several of them were avoiding my eyes. One was looking with great intensity at a nearby mailbox.
"A-and we did almost get caught, he seemed to wake up slightly, so we had no choice but to run out. Not to mention a door was completely locked."
I stood on the sidewalk holding Gideon's amulet.
Without it, he was just a kid for the most part. Gideon Gleeful was significantly less dangerous now but still. He still had Journal Two. That was still a big problem. But it was a problem I could work on gradually, with the pendant already stolen he might prepare for another break in attempt.
For now I should head back to the shack, I was already tired to the bone before I got here, with the added boredom I was barely awake now.
I set the amulet on the desk when I got back to the room and sat down in front of it, looking at it for a while.
Mabel was still in her comma like sleep but I could hear the loud grumbles of her stomach.
For the journal, I luckily had endless patience. No in fact this was better than I thought.
I smiled.
I wanted a little excitement anyways, Gideon having that notebook'll help me stay on my toes.
Hmph, gravity falls was going to be a fun journey.
