Chapter 124 - Nuclear Explosion

As the Quantum Splicer is put on Firestorm's chest, Dr. Wells looks at Cisco and gives him the nod.

"Alright, let the fission process begin," Cisco says, and signals the device to start doing what it was created to do: bombard Firestorm with enough energy to split their atoms and finally free the two personalities trapped inside one body.

The splicer starts humming, sounding almost ominous.

"Is it working?" Barry asks when suddenly Firestorm's hands light up in flames.

"Guys... Is that supposed to happen?" Barry asks, concerned.

"RUN!" Dr. Wells doesn't give any explanation. He just shouts Run, enough for Barry to realize that this is not how Dr. Wells expected this to go.

Barry enters flash time and runs towards Firestorm.

He doesn't have the luxury to just carry everyone out of here because that would put the city itself at risk.

Barry, though not as well-versed in atomic physics, is smart enough to understand that this is a high-level fission reaction, a nuclear explosion in layman's terms.

If Barry just runs out with his people, the explosion from Firestorm will cause another incident, one very similar to last year's.

Barry grabs Firestorm's body while it's in the process of radiating tons of energy, glowing, and getting warmer.

Barry runs out, leaving a trail of lightning behind him.

Firestorm, who he has on his arms, is now fully covered in flames, flames that are a product of nuclear fission, and it's going to get really hot very soon, even for Flash.

Barry hits another gear, running extremely fast. Luckily, he doesn't have his suit on, or the team would be surprised, even scared by how fast Barry is moving.

He runs out of Central City in a second. Two seconds later, he has left Central City far behind, bringing Firestorm to a deserted land. There is no sign of life anywhere for hundreds and hundreds of miles.

Barry looks down at Firestorm. He is blazing, completely covered in fire, radiating so much heat and energy that it would turn a human to ash in an instant. He is about to explode.

Luckily, Barry's body is indestructible, and he is also a being with limitless power.

He puts Firestorm down, and the explosion immediately occurs. Firestorm's core temperature right now is over millions of kelvin.

Barry runs as the electromagnetic flash goes right through him, as it's just light.

Barru didn't need to run faster than light; he just needed to outrun the explosion so that he wouldn't get blown off his feet and sent flying across hundreds of miles, which is quite an easy feat for Barry.

He crosses an incredible distance, arriving on top of a cliff as he watches the explosion in real time from far away.

'Luckily, I managed to get him here in time... Central City would have been wiped out.... Wait... Did he know this was going to happen? Of course, he would, but why take such a huge risk?' Barry wonders with a frown.

Barry suddenly gets a call on his phone. He sees that it's from Cisco.

"Barry! Are you okay?" Caitlin's voice is the first to come through; she sounds worried.

"I am fine, I managed to isolate him in a deserted land," Barry says.

"We just found out, S.T.A.R. Lab's satellite just picked up a massive thermonuclear explosion," Cisco says.

"Barry, you need to come back right now. Who knows how much radiation you have been exposed to?" Caitlin says, worried.

"Mr. Allen, you should listen to Caitlin," Dr. Wells chimes in.

"Wait, something's not right.... Our satellites aren't detecting any burst radiation," Cisco says.

"No radiation? That means..." Dr. Wells' voice follows.

"I will check it out," Barry says and runs back, seeing that everything has settled down.

Arriving at ground zero of the explosion, Barry sees a massive crater, completely covered in glass.

The heat from the explosion fused everything into glass.

But as the air clears, Barry sees something in the distance, right in the middle of the crater, to be exact, where everything looks normal.

He sees two men, one on top of the other. One is trying to choke the life out of the other.

"What the fuck did you do, Old Man? Give me back my powers!" Ronnie shouts angrily as he tries to strangle the old man with white hair, he is Dr. Martin Stein.

He is doing his best to fight back, with Ronnie being younger and stronger, clearly has the upper hand, and now, consumed with rage as he can no longer burst into flames, is trying to kill Martin.

Luckily, there is a flash, and Ronnie gets knocked out cold, collapsing right on top of Martin.

Surprised at first, Martin sees Barry standing over them.

"Are you okay, Dr. Stein?" Barry asks, extending his hand to Martin.
