I stumbled back a step, my legs weak, my hands hovering uselessly in the air like I didn't know what to do with them anymore. The moment I let go, Lila sagged fully into the mattress.


The doctor leaned in, lifting Lila's chin carefully. She froze. "What the hell—" The words slipped out before she could stop them.
