CHAPTER 310
KATYA POV
I tightened my grip around Chiara's hand until my fingers hurt. She coughed beside me, doubling over for a second before forcing herself upright again. The smoke seemed thicker now.
Every breath scraped against my throat. Every cough made my chest ache. I blinked rapidly, trying to clear the tears gathering in my stinging eyes.
Everything had become blurred. Then… "There…" The word came out between coughs. Barely louder than a whisper. I lifted a trembling hand and pointed through the haze.
Chiara followed the direction of my finger.
"What?"
"There…" I coughed again, my lungs protesting violently.
"I think… there's… a door." At first, all I could see was another section of smoke until my vision adjusted.
A dark outline emerged from the wall. Half hidden behind a decorative pillar. It looked Forgotten. Almost abandoned.
No one seemed to run towards that door and most importantly… It was open.
