"Adam-"
"No. Don't say anything right now."
"Excuse me?" He stopped the horse and hopped off swiftly, already walking inside his manor. I followed behind him. "What is it? huh? why are you so-"
"Sir Adam! Lady Victoria! You're back!"
As his butler ran towards him, but Adam only walked passed, ignoring.
His butler turned to me. "Uh, Lady Victoria, your coat."
I removed Adam's jacket from my shoulders, passing it towards him.
"Here. Adam. Wait-" A moment of dizziness took over as I climbed the stairs. I quickly grabbed the railing, breathing slower. With another breath I continued walking up the stairs. "Adam!"
I turned the corner and entered the room he was in. Adam turned back to face me, angry. "Do you realize what you'e done?"
"I'm willing to accept all-"
"-Even if they send an army after you?"
I furrowed my brows and scoffed. "They won't be able to kill me. No matter how many armies they send."
Adam walked away from me, pinching the bridge of his noes. "You're cockiness is not reassuring, Ire."
"Reassuring? Why would you need to be reassured?" I crossed my arms and stared at him. "They aren't coming after you."
"I know."
"Then? What is the problem here?"
I watched as he turned away once more, but this time with a clenched jaw. A smile slowly bloomed on my face. "Don't tell me..."
I walked around to see his expression. Embarrassed, he was staring at the ground.
"-You," I pointed towards him. "Have feelings for me, don't you?"
"You're dreaming. It's already late. Get some rest."
I grabbed his arm. "Tell me, do you," I hesitated for a moment. During which he pulled his arm away, walking towards the door. "Do you remember me?"
Adam stopped and inhaled sharply. I watched his fists clench, and then slowly, they unclenched. "I don 't- and I don't know what our relationship was, if thats what you're asking me."
"...I see."
I took a deep breath before waving my hand. In less than a moment, my outfit had changed into a relaxed nightgown.
"Goodnight then, Adam. I'll see you in the-" I paused, taking a gulp while closing my eyes.
"Elodie? Are you-"
"-Fine." I quickly said. "I'm fine. See you in the morning-" My vision blurred, and there was a dull ringing in my ear. My legs buckled.
"Elodie!" Adam had caught me, bringing his hand to my face. "Elodie? What's wrong with you?"
"I- It's just from my powers. I'm not used to using them."
"Does it have to do with why you came back?"
"Not entirely. But even then... something is wrong. My powers should be stronger than this."
"Are you sure? Then... were they stolen?"
"Stolen? My powers can't be-" I stopped talking. Princess Isabella is a scarlet witch. Scarlet Witches' powers rely on magic. "Bloody hell.."I scoffed. "How could I forget something so important?"
"What? Elodir, you nearly just passed out-"
"Not a big deal, Adam." I quickly shushed him while thinking, still in his arms. "My magic... theres no way she could'e gotten them while I was locked away. And after I came back is- simply impossible. Then, before. That must be it."
"Who did it?" Adam asked. I thought for a moment before wearing a smile.
"Darling. You shouldn't ask questions if you can't act on the answer. Besides. This person is-"
"-Elodie!" Adam seemed to stare at me in disbelief. "Is now truly the time for this?"
"..." My hand held his neck. "What better time than the present?"
He just stared at me, unmoving. To earn a reaction, I pushed my chest softly to his. Adam quickly stood me up, backing away.
"Get some rest."
"You aren't sharing the bed with me?"
Adam only sighed, walking towards the door.
"Wait until morning if you plan on disappearing again. At least spend the night here."
"See you in the morning, Adam." He glanced at me from the door. When I winked, a scowl left his lips. Sleep well."
The door closed behind him.
"..."
My smile began to dim. I sat on the bed, placing my hands in front of me as i cultivated my magic.
Air swirled around me, and my palms accepted the wave of green colored energy.
"If Isabella truly has the remaining of my powers... She must be planning something."
Perhaps not killing her when I had the chance would cause more problems...
With a sigh I closed my eyes.
with the way Adam and Daniel were acting, I doubt they would've stood idly by and allowed it.
"...Forget it." I circled my hands until my palms faced downwards, taking a breath. "I need to focus on getting my powers back either way. Now that two of the three brothers are dealt with... I have more room for-"
Glass shattering made its way to my ears. I stood up instinctively, a shiver running down my spine
"!" My vision went blurry and I quickly held my head. As I slowly pulled myself together.
"Who are you? What are you doing here?" It was Adam's voice I heard next. I moved through my dizziness, as if on command, to find him.
Almost immediately once stepping out of my room, I watched as Adam turned towards me, his distraction allowing the intruder wearing complete black to point a knife towards him.
My mind flashed a memory I had long wished to forget.
The memory of Adam's dead body. Covered in his own blood.
I was so distracted I hadn't even realized my magic was in affect until I heard the loud groan of the intruder, who had been thrown against the wall, falling backwards in the long hallway.
I looked at Adam who seemed shocked. Shocked- but not injured. "Elodie- your eyes are..."
I walked towards him and for a moment, took a shaky breath. As I blinked, my eyes grew misty. "Are you alright?"
"What? I'm-"
I raised my hand to rub his face. He was warm this time. Alive this time.
"I almost lost you. You can't be so reckless!" My voice cracked.
Adam's eyes widened. "What? Elodie what are you-"
"-Stay back. I'll deal with this." I turned towards the intruder who laid against the ground.
"Bast*rd..." I was fuming, my nostrils flared. "You dare attempt such a foolish act?
Upon seeing me the intruder turned sheet white, scurrying backwards on his hands. "The- The Evil Witch!"
The name barely phased me anymore. "Who sent you?" I asked, feeling the air around got colder.
The intruder shook his head. "I came here on my own! I follow no one's orders!"
The side of my lip lifted. I stared at him cynically. "You wish to die a slow and painful death?"
I raised my hand, magic swirled against it. Wind carried into the hallway from the broken windows, circling around me.
"W-W-" The intruder looked around and then back up at me, gulping down carefully. "T-The king sends me. The king is who sent me here."
"...tch." I twisted my wrist, placing my hand back down by my side. The wind stopped and the magical energy had dispersed once more. "Be sure to send this message then,"
I lifted my finger. It glowed green.
"W-Wait!" The intruder flinched. Like a coward.
"If anyone dares on hurting Adam while I am around... they will all die. Understand?"
He nodded hurriedly. I tapped his arm. The green glow surrounded him and in the next moment, the intruder was gone.
As I stood up fully, Adam approached me. "Elodie! Elodie, what did you-"
I sighed, turning around to face him. "I've dealt with-"
He hugged me tightly. "Are you hurt?"
Taken aback, I remained silent. Adam's hand moved to holding my head softly as he hugged me. My hands didn't know what to do, slowly moving to hold his back in return. "I'm... fine."
"Truly? You nearly fainted in the room and now, you used so much of your power to-"
"Adam. I am fine."
I pulled away from him, looking into his eyes. "You on the other hand. Were you hurt?"
He shook his head. "You came out before anything could happen. Don't worry about me."
"You're certain?" My eyes narrowed, scanning him entirely.
"Elodie. I'm not lying."
"I had to make sure."
I glanced outside as another breeze of dark wind blew. "It's getting late, Adam. Let's rest."
"...Goodnight, Elodie."
"Goodnight."
I turned away first but was stopped. Looking back towards him, Adam had grabbed my hand.
"Where are you going?"
I raised a brow. "To... the other room?"
"You...Well- it's just that-" Adam quickly covered his flustered state by coughing, facing the other way to avoid my amused smile. "...If, you'd like. It would be safer for you to sleep in my room. I'll take the couch."
I turned around and walked towards his room. There was a small pip in each step. "No need for that. Your bed is big enough for two people, no?"
