Zephyr's eyes were fixed solely on Isolde, and for her, it felt as though the room around her was shrinking.
He did not say anything at first; all he did was stare as if waiting to see if she would say anything else.
Isolde was scared—scared that she had just made a mistake and angered the Alpha and he could see right through her. Aside from her visibly trembling body, her face looked ice-cold.
She was terrified, which meant that, like every pack member, she was scared of him. But for her to ask him this directly, there was something greater than her fear, and it was simply Selene.
"I'm sorry, I—" she began, her voice shaky and uncertain, but Zephyr stopped her with his raised index finger.
"I want to know," he began. "Did she tell you why she asked for Dorianna to be released?"
Isolde was not expecting that question, but when he asked, she shook her head and cleared her hazy thoughts before finding the words to answer.
