Xia Yuqing slowly looked up at him. His eyes were calm, but there was an honesty inside them that made her chest tighten painfully. "I'm cold and a selfish man, Yuqing. The only people I truly care about are you and our baby."
His hand slowly moved to her stomach as he spoke. "I don't want to risk either of you for anyone."
Xia Yuqing's heart trembled slightly.
"To be honest…" Lu Jinchen lowered his eyes briefly before continuing quietly, "What I really want to say is forget about Rong Xi. Let's leave this place immediately and never look back."
The words sounded cruel. But Xia Yuqing knew every single one of them came from fear.
Fear of losing her again.
Fear of losing their child.
Fear of watching her get hurt in a world where they had absolutely no power.
However, after a moment of silence, Lu Jinchen let out a quiet sigh and tightened his arms around her slightly. "But she's your friend," he said softly. "She helped us so much. Can we really leave her behind here?"
