"You two know each other?"
After hearing Trusty007's words and watching the woman's immediate reaction, Ethan already had his answer. There was history between them, and not the casual kind either. The tension in the air shifted, subtle but unmistakable.
"Uh… well…" Trusty007 hesitated on the other end of the call, clearly unsure how to explain.
"I'm Seven's woman!" the woman sitting at Ethan's feet suddenly blurted out, as if afraid the chance to declare it might disappear if she waited even a second longer.
"Really?"
Ethan directed the question calmly toward the phone.
"Yeah… it's true," Trusty007 admitted after a pause.
"I see. So you actually know her?"
Now Ethan found himself in an awkward position. He had already determined she was not connected to the bird-people he had encountered before, yet something about her existence still bothered him. Curiosity pressed at the back of his mind.
Because she was not human.
