The flames crashed into the Qilin, but the lightning beast tore straight through them.
Its body scattered into crackling lines of light, then pulled itself back together as if nothing had touched it.
"Tch!" the Ashborn snarled.
He swung again, harder and faster.
This time his axe met the Qilin's lightning-fanged jaw.
The impact shook the air and sent out a shockwave.
The Qilin split apart at the last moment, dodging the strike, then reformed behind him.
"Shit!"
Crackle.
A lash of lightning struck him in the chest and ripped his flesh open.
His body regenerated at once, flames pulling him back together.
BOOM.
The Qilin struck him again.
And again.
And again.
Each time, the Ashborn's body was destroyed.
Each time, he rebuilt himself in flames.
It did not matter.
The Qilin kept coming, kept hunting, and kept tearing him apart inside an endless storm of lightning.
"ENOUGH!"
The Ashborn roared and forced every last bit of his ignited form into one final explosion.
